From the time Saunders got hurt until Revere arrived, LF was a black hole of misery and ruin. Gibbers could have tried a signpost in LF and I wouldn't of held it against him.

Ben isn't the perfect option, but this was our LF situation pre Revere. Im glad he is here. Nice work AA.

He did get Goins beastly bat in LF against Buchholz though.

"You telling me that our light-hitting SS hit two soft flies off the Monster against this pitcher one time? Better start him in LF at Rogers Centre."

Carrera and Valencia were fine. Valencia in particular was learning the position on the fly, acquitting himself well, and thanks to Gibbons is one of the best hitters on the Oakland A's. The OF misery was mostly from playing injured Saunders, injured Pompey, and Hanley Colabello.

Gibbons goes by the same old school thinking of the 8th inning reliever has to pitch in the 8th inning regardless of the situation. He doesn't believe in the theory that when a starter is facing a team the 3rd or 4th time through the order that the starter is less likely to perform at a high level. He couldn't tell you who his best relievers or worst relievers are because he uses them based on gut instead of performance (hence why Sanchez, Hawkins, Schultz, Tepera, Loup, etc, are or were all ahead of Hendriks, Cecil, and Lowe in his depth chart).

This was very strangely on display last night. Buck and Pat explained the ridiculousness: Lowe will pitch in the 8th if the game is tied, but Sanchez will pitch in the 8th if there's a lead (and in the 9th if it's still tied). Never mind that Sanchez for his career has been literally the most effective pitcher in baseball against RHH (while being pretty bad against LHH) and the 8th inning had 3 RHHs lined-up (after the lefty faced by Cecil) and the ninth had 2 LHH (one of whom Sanchez walked).

His bullpen decisions are weird and arbitrary and the only reason they work is because all the pitchers are pretty good so the possible damage is minimized (except for of course the three times per week that he leaves the starter in too long).

I think there's more to Pretty Danny V then meets the eye. The guy has talent, but, it's now 5 teams in 4 years? Something is amiss with the guy. And if you think Carrera and him were fine left then we can agree to disagree. I feel Carrera is a brain cramp waiting to happen and Valencia moved so slow in left I wanted to rip my eyes out.

Gibby?

There's no way he wins it. I get it the Jays turned around their season making the postseason for first time in 22 years. A magic story, but a goat could have managed this team and we'd be in the same position.

Manager of the year = Team record

Its just winning likely, but I'm actually appreciating Gibby more these days. He is steady and doesn't get too up or down. His post game interviews have been pretty funny lately.

His pen mgm is my biggest criticism.

I also think he is overly "loyal" and sometimes over-manages the line up to give guys ABs/field reps, sacrificing our best potential performance line up.

He seems like a decent guy too....Mgr of the Year? No.

lol forgot about that incident. If I recall Lawrie was pissed at Lind and Rivera for not tagging. And showed them up on the field too.

No wayyyyy

Managers are almost completely irrelevant. A poor one might cost you a game or two, but most of them make interchangeable decisions that even out over the course of the year. I don't think he's a poor manager, he's average, which is fine.

I hope Gibby wins, just for fun. I have little issue with his bullpen management as well as with his lineups and subs most times. We can all bitch about a decision here and there, it's the nature of the game, but all in all, he's fine.

Specifically mad at Lind for not scoring. The runners on base didn't matter given the score and inning, Lawrie is an idiot who doesn't understand what most baseball fans understand by the age of 10.

So he's Cito Gaston.

I hope he has back-to-back success like Cito too.

Yeah, he was mad at Lind for not getting him an RBI when it wasn't 100% that he'd score and the run didn't matter.

price is awesome but not the best in the AL

osuna has had a great year, but again, a few have been better

gibby was handed a team. He did not get the best he could have from the PRE TRADE team and POST TRADE he has done nothing spectacular, just managed
