DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 You have 4 out 5 infielders that are below avg defenders and one giant butcher in the outfield, this is going to be an ugly game. Gibby don't value defense though so you guys can live and die with him. If Estrada can pitch like he has in his last few outings it shouldn't matter too much!
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 This is the perfect lineup to mash against Eduardo Rodriguez again. Should be fun to watch
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 I quite like Smoak, and he should be used more but he didn't look very effective when he started 3 of 4 the other week going 1 for 13 with 6 s/o's. I certainly understand the use of Colabello while he's hitting, and hope that he responds like he did last Tuesday with the game winning home run after frenchsoup ridiculed his use before that game.

I will ridicule every game he starts, it's about the process not the results.

Every player throughout the season will have slumps. JD went 1-13 or something just as bad during that period as well. Using a slump as a excuse to sit a player is terrible. Besides if that was the case Pillar/Gonis would have sat a long time ago. Think they are marketing Navvy or just honestly love him.
Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 If it's the process then ask AA to give Gibbons more natural outfielders to select from then.

I was not trying to undermine Smoak as I do like him and he would start at 1B in my best lineup. But I understand that sometimes you go with your hottest hitters, so CC over JS is fine IMO for now, but it won't be when CC cools off.

Yorkshire Blue Jay Verified Member Posted June 30, 2015 Posted June 30, 2015 4 for his last 15 with 1 xbh. Red hot Colabello That xbh, would it be the double against Texas or the HR against the Rays? If you're going to quote stats at least get them right please, I wouldn't want my accountant to be as accurate as you
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 No Martin or Smoak in the ninth inning. With the game on the line don't you at least pinch hit for Valencia or Pillar. Heck I would have pinched hit for all three I just don't understand. Sigh.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Yupp. I would have gone Smoak, Martin, Carerra. Usually I don't take issue with Gibby's management, but tonight it seemed like he just mailed it in.

Pillar I could live with since he's on a hot streak, but Valencia can't hit righties and Navarro can't hit period.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Martin is a really good hitter. No way you don't atleast pinch him. Sigh.
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 I came out of my room and saw danny boy batting against a right hander and I was so f***ing confused

And Smoak is in the doghouse, and Carrera is more for PR duties.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Smoak: 0.5 WAR Colabello: 0.4 WAR Navarro: -0.1 WAR Gibbons playing his best players, as always.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Sarcasm or an actual defense of gibbons' managing tonight? And what happens if Navarro got injured after Martin had PH and wasn't available (or the other way around?).. Jays would be screwed. As for Smoak not PHing, it was because of Uehara's splits vs. RHers.

LTR Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Smoak: 0.5 WAR Colabello: 0.4 WAR Navarro: -0.1 WAR Gibbons playing his best players, as always. I used to be a Gibbons fan, but he has completely lost it. Goins should never ever ever be playing if he's not in the IF, and even then, should not be playing over Travis/Reyes unless defensive replacement or rare start. Valencia should never ever ever be facing a righty. Smoak should be playing 1B and getting regular playing time, especially vs. righties. Valencia can play all the time vs. lefties, 1B/3B/LF, wherever. Martin should be playing as much as possible, Navarro can sit his fat ass on the bench and catch every 5th-6th day. Gibbons is completely over-managing.
AdamLindsMom Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Smoak should be the regular 1B. If he's playing 1b in the first there's a much greater likelihood the lead off hitter is out and that big inning never happens.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 The worst part is how Gibbons is basically splitting Martin and Navarro's playing time 50/50 now. Like... f***ing hell. We have one of the best catchers in all of baseball, and he's riding the pine 2-3 times A WEEK so that DIONER f***ING NAVARRO can play?!!? Jesus

BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Since Navarro came back this is a below 500 team. Navarro is making me a hater but even I cant pin that on him. Too many variables and we were coming off a long winning streak anyway = not sustainable.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Since Navarro came back this is a below 500 team. I am no Navarro fan. But according to baseball reference. Navarro came back June 3rd and participated in a 8-0 victory. Since Navarro has been back the Blue Jays are aproximately 18-8.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Since Navarro came back this is a below 500 team. Games that Navarro has been in since he's been back - Jays are 9-8. Games that Navarro has started since he's been back - Jays are 8-5. It's fine to not like the guy but don't skew the facts.
