The hip issue he had this offseason is likely part of the reason he sucks this year, but he certainly wasn't trending in the right direction either. SLG% went from .596 in 2012 to .438 last year to .407 this year.

 

But of course he'll likely rebound in St. Louis. Who goes to St. Louis and sucks really? nobody.

Holy f*** do we ever need an upgrade in LF. I knew Colabello was terrible but looking into Carrera and Valencia would you imagine that Valencia has been our best of the three in LF? Colabello's rocking that -9 DRS (-14 if you include RF) with a UZR of -56.6, Valencia -3 and -4.6 and Carrera has been -10 and -8.3. Obviously Colabello has no business putting his feet onto anything other than a batters box (which is also debatable) but Carrera is basically in the same boat.

It wasn't inconsequential at all, the Mets were embarrassed last night because the details were leaked. Whoever let the info out made them look very bad -- their reputation with fans and peers is not something that organizations take lightly.

 

No one's going to stop making trades with them over this. Fans will move on. This is a blip on the radar.

It's hard to see a scenario in which the Jays do add somebody before the deadline and still have Alford in the system a few days from now.

He has a bone bruise. Most recent X-Ray (2 weeks ago) still shows it as a pretty deep bruise. You can't set a time line on that.

He might never be the same, at this point hopefully he rehabs it slowly and properly over the off season and comes back ok next yr. I always felt it was a little rushed regarding his returns.

The only reason this is newsworthy is that a player was rejected for health reasons, something that rarely ever happens, and the teams had to pull out. Stop trying to make a mountain out of this. This isn't all that different that what happened with Matt Kemp in the off season. Did people stop dealing with the Dodgers over that?

Exactly... Its not like they were in mid conversation when this happened. Deal was considered done pending physicals which is generally routine and this is one of the rare cases that something came up that concerned one of the teams and it was nicked.
