Kyle Seager? Nice bat but isn't there a reason he plays 3B? Is he a viable defensive MLB SS? Yes i know he's a better option than Reyes.

Pretty sure he meant Corey Seager

Bautista for Hamels straight up is a lot better trade

You don't trade from your major league roster where you have no depth, you're not making the club better; unless, maybe, you're planning for the future.

Better than trading Stroman who has pitched in the AL East and might be our best pitcher for years to come. Trading Bautista would give us some payroll flexibility while strengthening our pitching this year and the next few where Bautista will be declining rapidly.....but it won't happen since he won't go to Philly and I still doubt Hamels will come to Toronto

Well then your plan is to not compete this year (that's a lateral move for this year).

You said trade for Hamels, that's more salary.

Also why would Phillies do that, nothing to be gained other than a salary dump???

We are on the border...if we did add an ace for Bautista....the end result would probably be the same. The best for this team now and in the future is to trade Norris+Castro for Cueto. Then give Cueto what he wants to sign him longterm.

Cueto has no interest in pitching here so that's 2 months of Cueto so we can still finish 4th place, lol.

I can't continue this conversation.

Jays wont sign pitchers to long enough deals to land the truly elite ones. Someone is going to offer 5-7yrs and the Jays will be out.

Pretty much. The funny thing is that those long-term deals never work out, so many organizations are now f***ed by those long-term contracts, the Jays are smart not to do so in most cases.

Jays are changing this stance....with the insane amount of good pitchers available this offseason I could see them changing this philosophy for the right player. Which I blieve Cueto is. Who knows though. We might have a whole new front office come the offseason.

Cueto will be 30 going into next season. A long-term contract is an awful idea. 2-4 years max.

If the Jays make a trade it will be for a rental or a trade no one saw coming. Not sure what u think I am saying.

Are the Nationals mad they signed Sherzer to an insane contract...no, they deal with it when the time comes.

At 2-4 yrs Jays will never sign an ace.

Jays won't trade for a rental, that's already been made more or less clear, and no rental (pitcher) will sign here after.

Then no trade will happen in all likelihood, which might be for the best

They most likely will be. That's a marvelous way to reason for of a long-term contract "let's deal with the inevitable decline and massive salary when the times comes".

I was referring specifically to Cueto or most pitchers in his age range.

It might be a bad way, but I don't see the Jays signing an ace this decade with the small contracts. Need to keep young pitching and do a better job developing it.

If they want an ace or good pitcher, they'll have to trade for him. That's really the only way it's going to happen. And it won't be Cueto or some rental. You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Yep, but what to give up is the question. Well I'm off to grill some steaks, have a good evening.

Why would Philly entertain this?

I'd love to see us get Cueto and Chapman, but I don't think the jays have enough pieces to even make an offer.

Say we trade some of our big prospects for those guys. Hoffman, Sanchez and many others. Like others have said, there is still a good chance we finish 4th. And then we have no prospects. We're in a very untenable situation. I think the least of all the evils is to call up Norris, get Sanchez healthy and call him up, and go with those guys (almost) no matter what. I would call up Castro as soon as I can, too. For the bullpen.

MB will (chances are) have a crappy second half. He wears down and he gets lit up. I would trade him, and then call up Boyd and keep him in that rotation the rest of the season. See what we have.

Lastly, I would consider DFA Dickey. I'm sure he can't be traded.

So, for the rest of the season, I'd ride with the young guns...and a few stragglers.

Hutchinson

Sanchez

Boyd

Estrada

Norris
