Where ignorance is bliss, 'tis folly to be wise.

Or delusional hatred. It's not your money bro, he still comes relatively close to his value as per $ per W. Don't reply please, I already know your answer...just saying...

seriously, this board is infected with trolls that type garbage like "game over, we lost" after the jays go down by a run in the 2nd inning.

That's different...mouth breathers.

Wasn't Reyes worth almost 1 WAR before they had him play injured for 2 weeks? Reyes is still a 3 win player, an overpaid one, but that happens at the tail end of a players payday contract. Same could easily be said about Buerhle.

Right, Reyes and Buehrle are overpaid but at least they're producing enough to stay in their roles. I don't know how someone can look at this team and say Reyes is a problem worth discussing. This is a team that has been playing replacement level players at second base, all three outfield spots and at the back of the rotation for significant stretches of the season. The attention should be on why the back end of the roster is so devoid of talent and how that can be remedied.

You're right, he is a positive player. Howarth is also right in saying the Jays aren't in a good spot with the amount of $ they owe him for what they are bound to receive in return, performance wise. The guy can't stay healthy if his life depended on it and yes his skill set is diminishing. Blame AA and not Reyes, I get it.

I find this comment odd coming from a former ball player? I'm not sure if you're being facetious at your latter comment.

Thats great I'm sure he can have the same out of left field

So who f***ing plays SS? Jesus Christ reading through this thread is disturbing.

Not everything he said was right, but almost all of it was. He's not saying Goins should replace him permanently, but until Travis gets back to switch him, which is completely rational, especially since Travis was just shutdown for a week, and we know how long an actual week long setback actually is. The smiling was a stupid point. Other than that he's right. He's getting old, he's s*** at shortstop, he's still a good hitter, but $46M payout in 2 years will suck to pay, which is all true.

I'd rather criticism from time to time than the constant blowing of Wilner

Switch who?

Agreed, I care less about Reyes errors than I do about the balls Colabello doesn't even get an error on because he is so terrible.

Reyes is still a productive player...his deal sucks...but he can still be a 3+ WAR. Imagine being the LAA fans saddled with Hamilton and Pujols

(having a decent yr but 6 more left) deals surrounding a stud like Trout.

Buerhle is overpaid but when you can put up innings like he has for over a decade with the kind of mid rotation consistent production be brings...you get paid big.

Reyes is batting .333 and has a .349 obp since coming back. He just missed a homer the other night and he's going to hit a few out and get his slugging up. He's made some mistakes, and a couple dumb ones with a couple defensive blunders mixed in but he's still a positive player for this team.

And Pillar has an OPS of 1.559 in his last 5 games.... just saying.

Reyes also now projects to have an AVERAGE bat (not average for SS but league average) with a slight plus on base running (though even this seems questionable with all his base running derps).

I'm assuming you're referring to Reyes' projected wRC+ ROS which encompasses all offensive output, not just the bat. Projected wRC+ of ~100 is nothing to turn your nose up at from your SS, considering that only 8 others have been above or at league average to this point. The average bat at SS would be a below league average bat.

Howarth retiring means Wilmer taking over. Hahahaha Sportsnet 590 is going down the drain

Tercet should take over Wilner's job to try pleasing the masses. Popcorn radio.

PIllar doesn't have a career .780 OPS. Reyes bat does not project to be league average, and bringing up league average doesn't matter as it's what his bat brings at the shortstop position. League average OPS last year in the AL was .710ish

so Reyes bat is still better than league average.

The Reyes hate is ridiculous. You couldn't find a happier more positive person..

So if a player smiles a lot - nobody can criticize his rapidly declining play?

He could be opsing at 1. He doesn't belong at ss defensively

I like Reyes overall...just not his deal or his D. Who would? But this argument doesn't apply well to him.

With his sub avg D and cost we have to get more from him offensively. Im convinced we will in 2015 and he is coming around, but his wRC+ so far isn't acceptable vis a vis his negatives. Having said that he is all we have and he will do.

Agree. Im interested in the LF and 2nd discussion on him (not for the Jays) but he is still a force when in the line up.

OPS isn't a great stat for a comparison with OF Pillar anyway....a SS hacker speed guy like him who relies on extra base power.

Reyes bat does project to be league average though. OPS is not a good stat to use when evaluating a player against the league/others as it's not park adjusted. Reyes projects as 101 and 102 wRC+ on Zips, Steamer, respectively for RoS... that is essentially league average (as 100 is the weighted league average).

League average bat (above average for SS) + piss poor defense + a little speed and base running + base running derps + smiling mania + persistent injuries = get the f*** out.
