Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Makes me like Reyes even more, Howarth is senile
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 i personally love howarth as a radio talent but his opinions out of the booth have been appaling
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Who is Howarth to criticize Reyes to the degree he did? Reyes obviously isn't the same player he used to be, but is far from this team's biggest problem. A trusted voice in the sport for 4 Decades
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Howarth rules. I will admit he was laying on the hate pretty hard, but Reyes is grossly overpaid and is not a very good baseball player. But I understand you roll with what you got, I am not sold on Goins as an everyday player.
LTR Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I like Howarth now more than ever. Comes in and speaks nothing but the truth, and gets chastised for it... sounds about right. I take it people prefer everything to be sugar coated, like Buck and Pat do?
Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 I've noticed that this board has become increasingly full of Mike Wilners. You say anything negative about this team and people s*** all over you. Are Jays fans more delusional than Leafs fans now?
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 He can be painful to listen to but some of his comments were fair...if not obvious. Reyes rebuttal was pretty classy. Being aggressive is one thing I like about Reyes...trying to stretch 3rd with 2 out and lumber on deck just isn't that smart. But I've never been upset with Reye's personality. I like it. He actually plays pretty fired up and is showing signs of coming around at the plate now that he is healthy.

I take it people prefer everything to be sugar coated, like Buck and Pat do? Agreed - outside of the smiling comment - why are people criticising Jerry for stating facts? Could someone who thinks Jerry is out of line please explain? If Jerry comes on tomorrow and says R.A. Dickey simply isn't doing his job so far this year and he needs to make the necessary adjustments - would are we going to hate on him too? What if he says Pillar isn't a very good hitter or that EE is swinging and missing a lot more than he ever did before....

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Classy Reyes, but hit the damn baseball.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Jerry Howarth has had to watch every blue jays game for the last 20+ years. Cut him some slack. no s*** eh. he's sick of this crap like most of us but he's attacking the wrong person for sure.

This guy is basically riling up the fan base.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 What board have you been reading? seriously, this board is infected with trolls that type garbage like "game over, we lost" after the jays go down by a run in the 2nd inning.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Reyes is batting .333 and has a .349 obp since coming back. He just missed a homer the other night and he's going to hit a few out and get his slugging up. He's made some mistakes, and a couple dumb ones with a couple defensive blunders mixed in but he's still a positive player for this team.

Howarth is also right in saying the Jays aren't in a good spot with the amount of $ they owe him for what they are bound to receive in return, performance wise. The guy can't stay healthy if his life depended on it and yes his skill set is diminishing. Blame AA and not Reyes, I get it.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Exactly what has Howarth said wrong Reyes is not Fit for the position notanymore. You guys think its not hard for the coaching staff to continue to send this guy out there

Zaun of the Dead Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Not true. Jose Reyes is a decent hitter. Jose Reyes is fast. Jose Reyes is energetic. Is this enough to make him a good baseball player? In my opinion, no.
metafour Verified Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Jose Reyes is a decent hitter. Jose Reyes is fast. Jose Reyes is energetic. Is this enough to make him a good baseball player? In my opinion, no. 3.4 WAR last year, 2.2 WAR the year before that. When he's healthy, he's still a "good" player.
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 lol the same people criticizing Howarth on here also get on Wilner for sugar coating every player's mistakes/truth...
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Jose Reyes is a decent hitter. Jose Reyes is fast. Jose Reyes is energetic. Is this enough to make him a good baseball player? In my opinion, no. Off the top of my head Reyes contributes positively offensively and with his base running. His defense is below average. You're confusing the terms elite and good. Yes, Reyes is an overpaid asset going forward. That has no barring on his particular skill set here and now.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 lol the same people criticizing Howarth on here also get on Wilner for sugar coating every player's mistakes/truth... Yes, calling for Ryan Goins to replace Jose Reyes permanently and complaining that Reyes smiles too much are perfectly rational points.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 Reyes should be this team's everyday LF, once Travis comes back
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2015 Posted June 4, 2015 3.4 WAR last year, 2.2 WAR the year before that. When he's healthy, he's still a "good" player. All offensive. In fact Reyes in LF is a 4 WAR Player probably keeps him healthy too
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Yes, calling for Ryan Goins to replace Jose Reyes permanently and complaining that Reyes smiles too much are perfectly rational points. Not everything he said was right, but almost all of it was. He's not saying Goins should replace him permanently, but until Travis gets back to switch him, which is completely rational, especially since Travis was just shutdown for a week, and we know how long an actual week long setback actually is. The smiling was a stupid point. Other than that he's right. He's getting old, he's s*** at shortstop, he's still a good hitter, but $46M payout in 2 years will suck to pay, which is all true. I'd rather criticism from time to time than the constant blowing of Wilner
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 This isn't the first time Howarth has shown signs of being off his rocker. He really should be put out to pasture before he further embarasses himself. I love Howarth, but it's time, heck, I remember him in my early teens.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2015 Posted June 5, 2015 Jerry Howarth has had to watch every blue jays game for the last 20+ years. Cut him some slack. Try 30 + is more like it, lol.
