unless it leads to 3, 4 or 10 respectable starts. He's starting to cut down the walks. He's getting more swinging strikes and he still has one of the highest ground ball rate of any starter in the MLB. You better hope he has a bad start in 5 days. Three solid starts in a row might make your head explode.

I want him to succeed and cut down his BB rate. But the odds are he wont.

1:1 K:BB after today's start.

Lets not break out the annointing oil.

Why not? Everything is in place for him to be the next Randy Johnson.

why are the odds against a young player getting better? Seeing a 28 year drastically improve like bautista or chavez did doesn't happen very often, but quite often you see 21-24 year olds improve. You have no idea what he's going to do. I was ready to send him back to the minors 3 starts ago, but these last 2 starts have been much better than earlier ones. There's been a significant amount of improvement. His change up has been utilized a bit more and he's throwing more strikes. I am looking forward to his next start....does he regress or continue along a positive path...I don't know, but either do you.

Hard to counter arguments that aren't based in reality.

My argument is that Sanchez isn't hurting the team, and while the peripheral stats (improving by the way) suggest an impending implosion, until that happens he gets the ball every 5th day.

And that's he's been OK as a 22 yr old 5th starter.

What's unrealistic about this?

And wouldn't you agree Tercet's argument that Sanchez's numbers are bad and he should be sent back to Buffalo is unrealistic?

There's a good article about control-challenged top prospects and the improvements they make here: http://www.breakingblue.ca/2015/05/13/do-prospects-like-aaron-sanchez-improve-their-control-an-investigation/

You can't really count on a significant improvement from Sanchez.

He doesn't need a significant improvement, even some minor improvements here and there (such as continued development of a changeup) will have him end up as a mid-rotation starter in his prime.

that was written by people posting in this thread..no..lol. There are plenty of control challenged pitchers in their early years that were able to turn it around. The art of pitching is like many other sports, its all muscle memory and mental strength. Minor adjustments in either area can happen at virtually any moment in time for an athlete. I don't need to read your blog entry.

This thread is f***ing gold. Goes out and throws almost 7 innings and apparently he is garbage. I fully expect him to be fine this season. The best option for the role he is in.

yes, you are 100% correct. There is no way you could possibly be wrong. Baseball is easy for those who understand...lol. Those of us waiting to see if Sanchez can improve are dumn. We're not even saying he will improve, we're saying he's taken steps in the right direction and has the possibility of getting better. We should definitely trade him now for a 2 for 1 denny's grand slam breakfast coupon if there are any takers.

Did you not see where people were saying he pitched great today or are you just f***ing with me?

You didn't even read a f***ing blog post that directly contradicts what you say because it's inconceivable to you that you could be wrong, do you see the irony here?

So... 25 of the 43 improved their walkrate who struggled throughout their minor league career... Curious, did those who improve their walkrate, also improve their k rate?

After today among AL starters Aaron is 27th in ERA and 35th in IP if this is reality for our 5th starter I'm all in. Seems to be very comfortable pitching at home looking forward to see him pitch in person @ ninny next weekend

Oh s*** i never considered the fact that his ERA is decent. God i'm dumb. Let's get Scott Copeland up here right now! 2.43 ERA in Buffalo. # Stud.

Martin has adjusted how he sets up with Sanchez now. He sets up down the middle and let's the movement take it to the corners. His walks the last 5 starts: 6,5,4,3,2. It appears to be working. Odds are still against him but sometimes a little change is all it takes.

If he doesn't get 1 walk next start send him to Triple-A to figure s*** out!

As long as he can continue to keep up the high velocity with great movement, as long as he aims for the middle of the plate he should be fine.

If the velocity goes down and his command doesn't improve, then he might not be so great long term.

Hey guys like you seem to know it all so if you say so. I'm glad baseball games are decided by who scores the most runs and not by hotly debated analytics carried out on an Internet message board.

Grow up.

A pitcher that needs significant improvement is not how I would describe Sanchez. He needs to improve no doubt, but significant I would use for gascans like Jo Jo Reyes.
