Sanchez needs more than moderate gains over the course of the season to be an effective #5. Sanchez has not made any improvement since 2010, and that's not shortsightedness... that's just plain obvious.

Bump

Sanchez best starter so far

It's never fun seeing a kid struggle. Shame on the Blue Jays for putting Sanchez in a situation where he can't really succeed, given his skill set.

Huh?

Yes, but hes just a bad pitcher, most of this forums thinks hes a good pitcher when he clearly isn't now. He might be good in few years but not this year.

Good start from Sanchize tonight. Still needs to cut down the walks though. Needs alot more control

You could say he's been effectively wild.

Can't get by with that amount of walks, I can believe in 5 BB/9 if he limits hits to 7.5/9 with lots of ground balls. No way can he get by with 7bb/9, would need like 6 h/9 to make that work and that's not possible as a starter. hopefully he cuts the walks down because he can't succeed long term as is.

You've done it again! I especially like the part where you solidified your post by making the basically same statement 3 times.

What exactly are people gloating about? Is it the 5 walks in 7 innings or 7 whiffs in a 108 pitches(6.4% swStr rate)? This was the typical Sanchez except things went the right way for him at the right time. He could do the same thing again next start and surrender 7 runs.

So I guess we are getting some up and down with a first year starter. Who'd of thought that?

Is that reality?

Lots of potential

Ace upside... needs a bit better control.... ump gave him nothing tonight and when he missed, it wasn't by much

His numbers on the season

6.68 K rate 6.96BB rate 5.70 FIP and 4.93 xFIP. Its all been "down"

What is it about more walks than strikeouts that screams "ace upside"? Not trying to troll, genuinely curious.

I cut it back after making the same statement 4 times, thought it was overkill.

Unhittable when he's on

In any case, Sanchez now leads all of baseball in walks by +3 with 26BB in 41.2IP.

Where's tercet? You don't get to just gloat when he struggles...

I don't know the entire history of this thread but there is nothing for the Sanchez critics to concede here, the bigger point still stands and if anything this start solidified it even more.

I'm surprised it's only by 3 walks.

To be fair, his curveball did look very sharp. He didn't pitch as poorly as his xFIP or whatever suggests.

hopefully we don't hear the calls to send Sanchez to the bullpen or AAA this week

a 22 yr old with ace calibre stuff, working on better control, surprised how much criticism he gets

That's kind of a useless statement to be honest with you, every pitcher is "unhittable" when they make good pitches so you're not really saying anything with that. But i am genuinely shocked that there are actual people still describing Sanchez using terms like "ace potential" when he's been one of the worst pitchers in Baseball so far.

2 of those walks were totally because of s***** umpiring. Those 2 could both have been converted to Ks if RoboUmps were in effect...

He wasn't great tonight, but he wasn't as bad as his line might show (at least his advanced line, his "7ip, 0ER" line was pretty tasty..)

He's the 5th starter too. Meaning he has less IP than 4/5.

he's 22 f***ing yrs old. 2 years ago he was a rake, body wise. the consistency and the control will come. he's not the first young pitcher to come to the Show and struggle with control. it's almost a rite of passage for young pitchers.

c'mon anyone can see he's a huge diamond in the rough

The thing is, it's not just posters on this board who say "Sanchez has Ace potential", despite the high BB rate, and "high" is being kind.

He's had trouble with walking hitters throughout his MiLB career and was still considered a top prospect by virtually all prospect evaluators.

It seems to me that the Blue Jays decided late last year that Sanchez wasn't improving by being in the minors and decided they'd see if the MLB coaching staff could.

We'll see what happens...

Yep Sanchez is an ace, a babip of 0.056 with more walks then strikeouts.

ace potential, ace calibre pitches

no one has called him an ace

you, on the other hand, have s*** on your face

Concede a W, concede a shut-out. These are facts that you cannot find peripheral stats to deny.
