Gibbons is dumn, just like most managers nowadays. 8th inning guy!! I just bumped the thread because Kilace is dumn Not only that but he's been used a f*** tonne since coming back. Why not Hendriks? Hendriks strikes out everybody too but he's the long man or some s*** I guess now.
93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Putting him in, in that situation, was preeeety f***ing stupid when you have Lowe, Hawkins, even Cecil. 2nd and 3rd, 1 out up by two, yeah let's put in a guy who gives up a bunch of contact. Pretty much guaranteed the Yanks were getting at least one. I like Sanchez, but I agree with this statement 100%. He is much less likely to get the k than any of those guys you mentioned. Even with how wild he is, a WP and a flyball tie the game. A weak seeing eye single ties the game. Sanchez was the wrong choice in this particular situation, 100% agreed
93 Jays Verified Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 You can make the argument that Sanchez wasn't the best option in that situation (although most on here love Sanchez so they're all fos) but people saying Sanchez should have been handed handed a clean inning are so full of horseshit. A clean inning should've been handed to someone. Price had done his job, thrown over a 100 pitches and had to get himself out of a few jams making some of those innings stressful for him. I'm not saying it should have been Sanchez, but Price should not have been run out there period.

I was stumped, outside Maddon and maybe Hinch, or Hurdle. I couldn't think much of any who'm I've seen shown good tactical skills. ALSO: My sig is still relevant.

Why is handing Sanchez a clean inning horseshit? He has no margin for error - It's stupid trying to get 8 innings out of your starters every game, when you have a good bullpen. He left Buerhle to go 8 yeasterday and he struggled tried to the same with Hutch and he needed pulling as well. If the Jays had a 6 run lead or something fine.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Lowe is nasty and was the guy tonight to start a fresh inning. Price was done. Sanchez has been good in the pen but i don't understand Gibby going to contact guy with runners on 2B and 3B.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Lowe or Cecil should have been used in the 8th. Best K relievers on the team aside from Osuna (and Hendriks, who will be on the next episode of Dateline due to his unexplained disappearance). Putting a GB reliever in a 2-run game with runners on 2nd/3rd and less than 2 out is asking for inherited runs to score.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Career 4.00 FIP 4.16 xFIP in relief = Nasty! exactly....and all the armchair managers wanted to throw him in tonight's game after having already had a tough game in his short career as a Jay. Hawkins has seen every situation in baseball, yet everyone is bringing Lowe's name up and not Hawkins.
youngtea Verified Member Posted August 15, 2015 Posted August 15, 2015 Long season to go guys. Take the loss as a team and move on to the next one. We need to win the next two games!

He has been excellent THIS year in exactly those situations and that's why we got him. He is a reliever...like Cecil or Delabar or Rodney or a gazillion others...they can be excellent one year and very marginal the next.

BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Looking at count-specific zone rates to analyze Sanchez's control improvements in relief: http://www.breakingblue.ca/2015/08/18/aaron-sanchez-approaches-batters-differently-as-a-reliever/ Interesting! Can you analyze MB sometime? I for one often wonder what does he do that makes him so f***ing Good! Is it how he throws what and when in given counts? Is it his relentless pace in which he attacks batters with no pause? It can't be the speed of his pitches or is it a combination of the two later things messing with batters timing and routines. His durability and success combined and Track record for this many years is not fluke so what is it? Can it be taught and bottled and given to others? Thank you in advance if you can do this!
DanielG Verified Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 I'm with you on that! for sure!
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 MB's also got the whole rubber arm thing going for him. Aren't his mechanics basically ideal as well?

Re: Buehrle, I suspect with his varies speeds he throws his pitches that the short time period between each pitch makes the change of speeds more effective.

Gibbons being let off the hook by people here because "all managers are equally bad" is so false.

BTS Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Damn do I ever love Mark Buehrle.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Damn do I ever love Mark Buehrle. Yeah, you've always been a fan and I can't blame you. He's one of those ultra-dependable guys that all managers would kill for. Most people thought the Marlins were crazy for the $ they gave him. But until you see what he does year after year first hand all the time, it's all to easy to under-appreciate him. He certainly never wowed on the radar, but he's just so effective and dependable, and fields and controls the running game so well he's worth way more to a team that you'd ever realize by just looking at his record and ERA like so many do.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted August 18, 2015 Posted August 18, 2015 Buehrle has easily been worth his contract IMHO TBH IIRC
