Roy Halladay pretty much had league-average LD, BABIP, and HR/FB rates. There was nothing unique about the way he got outs: he kept the ball on the ground and had K/BB rates ranging from good to elite

Yeah Halladay was average....not like your favorite Brandon ToMorrow, the one you lauded for years

as in tomorrow he will be good.

Pretty sure Stroman's new approach is similar and has said as much in interviews that early groundouts helps him go deeper into games instead of using 100 pitches to go 5-6 innings while striking out more guys. The good thing is that when his sinker is located down in the zone there really isn't much the hitter can do but hit it into the ground anyways which he will happily take in the first few pitches of the AB. When he gets to 2 strikes he is also trying to strike the batter out and has the stuff to do it which helps too.

Yep. Sanchez needs a better/ more consistent 2 strike swing and miss pitch.

Is there a reason why the mods don't just ban this guy? Someone who willfully misinterprets people's posts to try to incite an argument doesn't belong on the forum.

~50% GB. He just need to put strikes.

Sanchez's control seems to be improving. His velocity and movement is just too good not to rack up the Ks once he can locate reasonably well

You're such a massive idiot.

There was a period in his careeer where Halladay moved away from the strikeout (2006-2007). Those weren't particular successful seasons by his standards and he had what could be described as a second prime starting in 2008 when he struck out more guys than ever before. The Halladay found success when he de-emphasized strikeouts narrative gets really overblown. Yes he was able to find success with less strikeouts but he wasn't better than he was before or even more durable during those seasons and his high strikeout 2008-2011 run blows those seasons out of the water.

Someone needs to tell Marcus that striking guys out does not lead to higher pitch counts.

Explaining your reasoning and theories to the everyone helps make the forum more progressive, rather than stating your knowledge and waiting for someone to ask why.

I'd be interested in reading your reasoning behind this.

I imagine it's just that the difference in pitch count of an average K is a bit higher than it is for an average BIP, but the difference is offset by fewer BIP turning into outs.

~ 50% GB? Isn't that uber elite? What's good, 30%?

30% is horrible, mid-40s is about average/decent, 50% is good, 60%+ is elite.

I cant even count the number of times Halladay has said that he pitches to contact.

Once again the accountant admits he can't count.

Ill start off by saying SSS alert but with Stro it is a small sample no matter how you look at it. In June it took him 497 pitches for 30.1 IP while in September it took him 426 pitches to go 31 IP so when he says he is a more efficient pitcher allowing him to go deeper into games with the sinker he is right.

Now the other thing to this is he only walked 3 batters in those 31 Innings in SEP so the command (sinker especially) probably has more of a correlation with the low pitch counts than the strikeouts do.

Steamer has Sanchez - 111IP, 4.29fip, 4.3bb/9, 7.71/9, 0.4WAR

ZiPS has Sanchez - 127.7IP, 4.77fip, 4.9bb/9, 7.1k/9, 0.0WAR

I still think those are both being nice to Sanchez if he were to be a starter lol

Who really cares, lets ride the kid as a starter until he proves he can't do it. What are we gunna lose? A half season or so of watching a young prospect develop or watching two homeruns a game from estrada. Would rather see what he can do for us now that Stroman's hurt.

Why do you keep laughihg skinny, is now Norris going to s*** the bed? Do you laugh at Estrada or Sanchez, how's your clue on fail, I can do that all day assshole, like I've said before easy on your count, but nothing changes, I hope you die in a fire. No jokes, that's how big of an ******* you are Gimp.

90/100 times in 2015 Estrada > Sanchez imo, maybe more..

In 2016/17 it might sway to Sanchez, but as of now clearly Estrada is better.
