Billy Beane continues a string of bad moves, giving Madson 3/$22. Probably pushes Hendriks down into more of a secondary set up role.

Took less then I think most expected, interesting!!!

His wife forced him to stay with the O's it seems. That probably limited his market somewhat.

$17M a year for Butler and Madson

Looks like Cecil is in line for $30-35M next offseason.

Last offseason was the time to get him signed to a nice 4 year deal with an option. Too bad we missed out.

I only see the Madson deal being good if the As trade him at the deadline. The As look like the worst team in the division, if I were them I would do a 2-3 year rebuild. With the new draft slot bonuses there's a large advantage to being one of the worst teams.

Probably could have had him at like 4/18 or something a year. Oh well. I'm not going to start complaining about not committing to a reliever before you have to.

How much would Lowe + Sipp cost?

Probably 10-12 million at least. I can't see the Jays signing 2 relievers. I think they have 134 committed already so that leaves them with 5 million or so to play with.

hendriks pushed down until they trade Madson this summer. The deal comes with a lot of risk, because if he doesn't pitch well they are on the hook for a lot of cash. If he does pitch well, they buy themselves a couple of prospects for 4 or 5 mil.

I don't think 140 is a hard cap number. The team could probably end up a few mil over.

Yeah, no.

Yeah but don't you want to save that room in case you make an in-season move?

Conjecture, but I think Rogers wants a ~$140M payroll heading into the season. I am sure we could get 5-10M (or more) during the season to pay for needs, etc.

Agree

It's too late to get a deal on him now which sucks

Everyone knows how good he is now

Thats what we thought in 2014 too... Yet Rogers balked.

They've now seen money pour in when there's a playoff run though

Why not just make the budget higher this year then? They obviously have the cash available but its a matter of how much money they want to keep.

I think it's because things can change. If we have a rash of bad injuries we might be out of it and then no need to invest more later and we are in sell mode. It's a risk mgm strategy.

Part of me wants O'Day here. The O's aren't going to make it to the playoffs with or without him so it won't matter and Bautista needs someone to carry his jockstraps.
