New president will mean likely mean new gm. Will they drop gibs too though as an AA man? I wager they give him a year more unless the team really shits the bed.

Will be if we aren't competitive, could be if we are competitive but miss the playoffs, won't be if we make the playoffs.

All depends on results.

With Beest gone, AA's cheerleader will no longer be there. Anything could happen, but a promotion seems less likely.

Yes, it will.

I think his replacement could be LaCava. The guy is good enough to be a GM (he could have won the Orioles job if only Angelos accepted that he clean the house).

Sorry for "Could - Will" issue. In spanish is "Podría or Could"

Mod, help me!!

You are Mexican! I think AA might be done, but I want him to stay since I think the 2012 trades were Beest's doing.

AA is ok at drafting too.

AA is just the face of the baseball operations department; tons of smart guys are working in the shadows.

Yep. Barring a deep playoff run or World Series title, I think AA is done the moment a new president comes in.

He went out with a blaze of glory though. Made some great moves when firing him after 2014 season was justifiable.

I really wouldn't be the least bit surprised if AA is promoted with LaCava and Tinnish moving up as well. I expect people will argue that it's a promotion that he hasn't really earned. However, I'd counter that under the new alignment, everyone is occupying a job more suited to their particular skill set. There's also something to be said for the value of promoting from within for the sake of consistency and familiarity.

I think the question is - should he be...

Perhaps I'm drinking the kool-aid, but I really support the vast majority of the moves AA has made and the re-development of our farm system has been phenomenal.

Sure he took on a lot of $$$ in the Marlins deal, but he basically gave up nothing outside of a hard throwing, power sinkerball pitcher who doesn't miss many bats......sounds just like Sanchez (albeit with better control) and nobody on seems overly concerned if we trade him. All the other guys he gave up have been nobody's. You can argue "he could have gotten more for that package" but you don't know that. To be honest, I expected more out of Reyes (and Bonifacio), but I didn't expect this much out of Buehrle. JJ was a great "risk" to take that didn't pan out. I think overall, we got a lot out of that deal. It's eating a lot of our proverbial salary cap now, but reality is, FA's aren't lined up to sign here.

I always prefer consistency and never support a revolving door at the GM or manager position - however, with a new President likely to take over soon, I think there's a fair chance he's gets the boot simply b/c the new Pres will want to put his stamp on things. I hate that with a passion, but accept that's life.

I'm assuming that the Jays will make the playoffs this year, and it'll save AA's job. I'm also trying to be optimistic about our new president not being dumb enough to fire him. Voted no.

Yes - 64.71%

No - 29.41%

Will get a promotion - 5.88%

You have to understand that those that said yes, meant that he "could" rather than "will" :D

Those that said no, read the thread and saw that you meant "will" so they picked no.

Lost in translation :)

It's strange though AA suddenly started making moves based on projected WAR. He was never like that before, and then suddenly we see Martin, Donaldson, Saunders, Travis, and some underrated waiver pick-ups. Either he has someone under him that would make a great GM or he's finally learning.

Learn me - what moves did he make that suggest he previously ignored WAR? This is likely a whole conversation on it's own.

Acquiring Bonifacio and then running with him for so long.

His use of catchers was also very telling. Traded practically every decent catcher in the system to give the keys to JPA, and then a year later signed a notoriously lazy and bad framer in Navarro while limiting a good framer like Kratz to AAA duty. Yet this off-season, he signed Martin because of defense and framing. Just seems like a complete 180 from his typical mindset. He also didn't seem to value Melky at all, and then traded a 1 WAR starter at peak value for a potential 2-3 WAR OF.

It seemed like two years ago he went for all big names that could sell tickets, and this year it was WAR/value based acquisitions. I definitely like this AA better, but why did it take him so long?

Transactions like the Lawrie and Rasmus trades suggested at least an intuitive understanding of catch-all metrics of player value. However, that intuition didn't seem to extend to understanding that players like Reyes and MB don't have any surplus value on their contracts, not to mention the value of the assets it took to acquire them; or to the fact that defensively challenged catchers with monster bats still have more value than fat mediocre relievers.

To be fair, that's indicative of a lack of understanding regarding the value of framing and by extension WAR.

Depends quite a bit on if they make the playoffs this year

There seems to be a lot of pressure on just that within the organization
