Westfan Verified Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 3 year deal with option. 23 million One more option gone not that I thought the Jays would do this
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 He lives there in the off season so I guess the Jays would have had to overpay a bit to get him.

Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Interesting. I'm guessing he probably turned down more money elsewhere to remain at SS instead of 2B or 3B. I don't think it'll take Correa 3 years to be ready for the majors though, so he probably won't be there the full term.

I could see him turning down 3/28

Nice problem to have if you're the Astros.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Seems like the 4th year might be a 5M club option. If true, that contract seems extremely light to me.

Or I suppose Lowrie moves to third (probably more likely since I'm not sold on his SS defense). It is a nice problem to have.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 Hmm. Well this kinda sucks. I really wanted Lowrie, but I guess he was a bit out of our price range. I would rather improve our bullpen and rotation.

Westfan Verified Member Posted December 15, 2014 Author Posted December 15, 2014 I want a starter for Christmas. Get it done Alex
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 wow. would have been a great deal for Jays.

I would rather improve our bullpen and rotation. He's a 1WAR player. so that's close to 7million a year. I agree bullpen is priority. rotation will be tough, need some of the young guys - sanchez, Norris to step up and provide low cost contribution
LongTimeReader Verified Member Posted December 15, 2014 Posted December 15, 2014 He's a 1WAR player. so that's close to 7million a year. No, he's really not. He's at least 2 WAR. Steamer has him at 1.7 but that's only 489 PA. I'd even argue 2-3+ WAR if given the chance to play everyday.

JaysRap Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Somewhere WardHenke1 is not be pleased.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 If the Jays had another $30M to spend then ya, but they don't so, nothing to see here. Where did the payroll increase go?
blurnandez Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The Jays were never going to get him anyway, so no point in coulda woulda shouldas. Pretty good deal for Houston.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Where did the payroll increase go? It went with Beeston.
SexyNewForum Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 The increase was not nearly as much as people wanted to believe. ffs this has to be one of the most frustrating front offices to follow Smoked-screened ******** has been spewing for years and it's so infuriating. you would think they would want to please their fans. You know, the ones who support the team and buy all the s***? How about trying to give us a straight answer on payroll for once?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 To be fair, and I honestly don't know the answer, is there any team that actually comes out and says "X, is our cap"? Not a chance, a 140 million on payroll is enough to contend, if it's more, all the better.
Key22 Verified Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 C'mon they doled out $82 million - they can't sign everyone. And not everyone will come here - I wish people would actually think about this. I am going to take less money to live in a place I like any day especially when 2 million is enough to set me up for life. Anything over that is gravy. The free agents we get are either Canadian (and we still had to offer 1 more year than anyone else) or we get PED users or whatever scrap heap is left in the bin when 29 other teams pass. The Jays budget and ability to sign players will likely give us the one option you all know you want --- you betcha - He is JAPANEEEEESE - yes you know you can't live without those dance routines - It's Muni Kawasaki! A great pen, A great rotation, A great defense - baaaa - An on field dancing mascot - Priceless.
