I wouldn't even touch Zobrist with Sanchez. Zobrist is a good player but he's 33. He can fall off at any moment.

 

Sanchez in all likelihood never falls on though

Firstly, as we all know it would be foolish to infer too much from such a small sample but secondly even in that small sample there are red flags. The alarmingly low swinging strike percentage has been brought up several times ITT. As a long time reader, you must be aware of it by now.

Sanchez for Zobrist sounds pretty fair. Those saying no chance are clearly overrating Sanchez and those saying it's not enough are overrating Zobrist. That being said the armchair GM in me would be hesitant.

I don't see us getting Zobrist (I would trade Sanchez + another lower minors asset) but that would be amazing. The guy has been remarkably consistent as a 4+ win player. He is projected for 3.9 next year with a very low defensive score on Fangraphs and I don't see him as the kind of player whose defense crumbles so quickly with age (he isn't good at defense because of amazing athleticism that ages). His versatility helps us immensely as we have question marks in the OF (where he can play) and a built in back-up at 2B (Travis) if he has to move off that position to cover another spot. I wouldn't want to see him play a bunch of games at SS, but he does have experience there as well.

 

I don't see it happening, but it would be almost as big a deal as the Donaldson trade. We wouldn't have him as long, but the net win increase at 2B would be huge and that doesn't even account for the benefit the versatility gives us.

Sanchez is Brandon League with worse command (in the minors at least). If the Rays would do Zobrist for Sanchez, then you do it and run.

Still think Rays ask for Hutch for Zobrist. They want guys that will be cost controlled through their Arb years.

 

I wouldn't do that deal, but your probably right. Rays might have a tough time dealing Zobrist unless they lower their demands.

They shouldn't lower their demands. They are still a contending team with him. There should be a new market at the deadline and with his versatility there isn't a team that Zobrist isn't a fit for. The way the Rays look for deals recently (less about upside as controlled costs, with a higher floor and lower ceiling (Souza, Smyly), I would think it's easier to find deals for them.

 

For the record I think AA would trade Hutch and his 4.48 ERA if there were a pitcher in return...but not for a hitter.

The "I'm sorry" stereotype is pretty evident in real-life situations in Canada as Canadians seem to be pretty weak and timid in a face-to-face context, but as soon as you put them behind a computer and/or give them an anonymous ID they think they are King s***.

If a Canadian bumps into you and says "sorry" it's because he doesn't want to get into an argument or get his face pummeled not because he's being "polite", don't be naive.
