glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Not even safe to twitter search anymore. Since AA is said to have interest in Beckham seemingly every off-season, I'm expecting it to happen eventually.

Running out of options for 2015. I suppose he could come in and compete for a job. Better be a MiLB contract though. I'd rather run with Izturis for a month or two than sign Beckham to a MLB contract.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2014 Posted December 16, 2014 Gordon Beckham hasn't hit since 2009 lol. Eventually draft status and prospect reports stop being relevant.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 So this thing happening, or what? Also what's the latest on Kang? He's already been posted but I havent heard much otherwise Teams are always quiet about bidding on posted players; the secret bid process means you don't want other teams to know how interested you are. I doubt we'll know much about Kang until some team wins the bidding. The Toritani thing should just happen already. He's not an elite free agent who can benefit from dragging out the process.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 So this thing happening, or what? Also what's the latest on Kang? He's already been posted but I havent heard much otherwise AA actually commented on a player for (seemingly) the first time ever yesterday, when he said they had significantly scouted Toritani. He said that he sees him as a good fit and that he has had talks with their side. You can find the link to the interview with Blair here. This just feels weird to me. Of all the players and possible transactions in the history of your tenure, why would you choose to admit your interest in Toritani of all people? Wouldn't you essentially want to hide your interest in a seemingly under-the-radar guy? Also, the bidding deadline for Kang is on Friday, so we probably don't hear who won the bidding until then, maybe even a few days later. Whoever wins will still draw it out longer, since they'll have 30 days to negotiate with him from that point.

Was your first sentence about Toritani?

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 18, 2014 Posted December 18, 2014 AA mentioning interest in a free agent outright is pretty rare. He could have tap danced around the question like he does for every other question he is asked but he didn't. Hopefully that means it's close to happening. I don't want Izturis/Goins starting at 2B.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 31, 2014 Posted December 31, 2014 Source says Padres do not have a current offer in for Japanese shortstop For now, the Padres are insisting they’re comfortable with Alexi Amarista as their No. 1 shortstop. That doesn’t mean they aren’t looking high and low for options in a search that has already turned up Clint Barmes as a backup.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 He's staying in Japan. He's got it way to good in Japan and to give it all that up to play second base, deal with the language barrier and make basically the same money makes no sense on his part. He's not going anywhere.
