jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 AA trades for Hamels. Book it!
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 It'll be for an OF and/or BP help. I think Travis will get a full shot at winning the 2B job and I think that's ok since I think an argument could be made that he could've been promoted to AAA this past season.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 f*** it would be really nice if Adam Lind was still on this team. He mashes RHP and would fit in great in the middle of that lineup. I wonder if AA asked for John Jaso to be included in the Donaldson deal. We don't need guys with poor attitude who mouth off. Its refreshing to see some of these guys gond
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I might be alone in this but I think the key will be getting 2 top notch relievers from this point forward to join Aaron Sanchez Cecil in the pen. Two major upgrades have already been made

Its refreshing to see some of these guys gond Actually now that I think about it, AA probably traded Lind because of his constant injuries. Its looking like AA is getting rid of all the injury-prone players. I would not be surprised if we traded Reyes now.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 Relievers, relievers, relievers. This this this

Spoonovic Verified Member Posted November 29, 2014 Posted November 29, 2014 I don't know about predictions (apparently, as my 2014/15 record in the FAP will say) but I know what AA needs to do: 1 - Sign dat front line starter (Preference of Lester/Shields/Scherzer) 2 - Trade for a #2 rotation pitcher (ie Cueto/Hamels) 3 - Trade/Sign a 2B (Phillips/Murphy/Lowrie/Utley) 4 - FIx dat bullpen (Not necessarily Miller - although that'd be awesome.) But however he can get it together 5 - Resign Melky or Trade for Saunders Dont need both 1 and 2. And trading for a #2 while at the same time trading for a big name 2B will cripple our farm system.

Its refreshing to see some of these guys gond Bautista mouths off all the time and I don't think anyone wants him traded? Buehrle told reporters off the record how he was mad at the front office and ownership for not making moves at the deadline, yet he is still here..
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Relievers, relievers, relievers. Lefty, righty, or neither?
gbill2004 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 AA trades for Hamels. Book it! I'd expect AA would have to give up at least one of Hutchison or Stroman (amongst others) to get that done. Would you still want to trade for Hamels?

Its looking like AA is getting rid of all the injury-prone players. I would not be surprised if we traded Reyes now. If they could get rid of Reyes to free up some cash, they could sign Asdrubal/Lowrie, find a left fielder and maybe have enough cash to make a run at Lester or Shields. This is video game talk but I felt after the Lind trade there would be a major shake-up and so far the Jays have been the most active team this offseason. If they were ok trading within the division Reyes would be a good fit for New York. They were asking about Rollins last week. I think they hold onto Reyes, but more big moves are coming IMO.

Reyes to NY for Elsbury? Hehe...hehe... If only
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I wouldn't be shopping or looking to move Reyes at all that being said if something came to me like a Hamels I would. Reyes is a good fit on this ball club but as everyone knows the problem is staying on the field.
canadiansportsjunkie Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 AA trades for Hamels. Book it! Wouldn't surprise me one bit. The question is for what?
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I think RAJ is going to die on his hill over trying to get a premium package for Hamels haha ...
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I strongly doubt Dickey is traded Happ or Estrada, probably I wouldn't be too sure about that. It seems AA is looking at strengthening clubhouse atmosphere and all indications suggest that Dickey is a clubhouse flake. AA has so far not only increased the talent level, but also clubhouse presence. Shopping Dickey and Thole and then signing a free agent starter sounds like par for the course here.
BigBounceyBlueBalls Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Sign Shields and Miller, AA I will say it again please! Thank you!

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 who would want dickey and thole though? im not sure his return would be that great You'd be surprised at what Dickey could get from an NL team. 200 innings of sub 4 ERA ball in the AL East with his contract holds value, especially in the NL.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I think Dickey is gonna be dealt ...
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 I'm perfectly fine with RA Dickey staying put in Toronto. Especially if AA can kick his side kick Thole, to the curb. Why is it so hard to DFA Josh Thole? His only real value is that Dickey likes him as a catcher, so why would anyone else really want him? Stash him in AAA, only needing him if it turns out Martin can't catch Dickey.
JaysRap Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Dont need both 1 and 2. And trading for a #2 while at the same time trading for a big name 2B will cripple our farm system. Time will tell what it takes to pry a #1/2 off a seemingly non-contender, but realistically the Jays need a front line starter. If they have visions of World Series all the recent past winners have had some kind of bonafield ace and if you want to win now, you either buy that guy or trade for that guy. Dickey and Buehrle are no longer aces.
nutz003 Verified Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Nice to dream of what they could do..... 1) Next move will be to resign Melky Cabrera, if that fails they will likely go after someone like Nori Aoki. 2) Relief Pitcher: if through FA likely Miller, if through trade possibly Bastardo 3) 2B: if through FA Jed Lowrie, if through trade Chase Utley 4) DH: Maybe won't go after one and use Smoak/Tolleson dependent on righty or lefty on mound 5) If they do go after starting pitching I am guessing Hamels via a blockbuster with Philly that could include also Utley or Bastardo Also guessing Happ/Estrada, Navarro, and possibly either Dickey or Buerhle could be moved if they get a starter that gives them 200+ through FA or Trade
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 They need to get Saunders. If they get Saunders, or they re-sign Melky, I actually wouldn't be too terribly upset with some sort of Valencia/Izturis/Goins type thing going on at 2B until Travis is ready to show what he's got. Kinda wish we still had Lind, but if ditching him because they didn't want to pay a platoon DH 7.5M is what allowed these moves to happen, then oh well.

AA has so far not only increased the talent level, but also clubhouse presence. Shopping Dickey and Thole and then signing a free agent starter sounds like par for the course here. Shi Davidi was on PTS on Friday and said the talk of Dickey being bad in the clubhouse was ********. Said he is quiet and does his own thing since its hard to relate with other pitchers since his routine is completely different with the knuckleball but there isn't an issue of him being a bad teammate. Shi would know the clubhouse atmosphere probably more than anyone outside the org. I mean Halladay wasn't the best teammate in the world and he did just fine in Toronto. Especially now that the Jays traded a good amount of their SP depth I expect Dickey to stay unless the trade made the Jays a lot better. Dickey is severly undervalued by fans it seems. 200 dependable innings is huge for a young rotation and the Dickey effect increases his value to someone like Shields if Thole doesn't catch him.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted November 30, 2014 Posted November 30, 2014 Time will tell what it takes to pry a #1/2 off a seemingly non-contender, but realistically the Jays need a front line starter. If they have visions of World Series all the recent past winners have had some kind of bonafield ace and if you want to win now, you either buy that guy or trade for that guy. Dickey and Buehrle are no longer aces. The Jays biggest improvement to the pitching staff was already made behind the plate and are best served to continue to do so up the middle of the infield. I'm especially looking forward to improved numbers from Hutchison given this new team configuration. If the Jays have money to land one of the top FA pitchers then sure go ahead. If not, I'm not losing sleep over it. But I'd be very worried if they went through the trade route if AA is as determined for an ace as others are here. One thing with the Donaldson trade is that it gives up trading chip depth. It was an amazing move without giving up MLB roster depth but the Jays don't have the pieces to do that again. Barreto was the best low MiLB prospect this team had and Nolin was everyone's favourite add-on. Well he was added on now. The next Donaldson-like trade would pretty much have to include Osuna and one or two of Hutch, Stroman Norris or Sanchez as the starting point.
