FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Melky is gone next. We also won't sign anyone this offseason. AA will then once again trot out the money excuse when a.) he failed with an $130 million budget, and b.) nobody believes it because of how much money Rogers spent on NHL rights.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 It is for the soul fact that they weren't able to come to terms with a hitting coach. That's pretty sad. No it isn't. Perhaps his demands were unreasonable and they didn't feel he was worth it. He should be more embarrassed that the Jays chose to let him go.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 This is really not a big deal. Read between the lines bro. No dinero Papi!!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 I am really okay with not paying a hitting coach what was likely excessive demands. Buehrle for Profar/Odor? http://www.lonestarball.com/2014/10/27/7078057/mark-buehrle-texas-rangers-potential-offseason-acquisition
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 No it isn't. Perhaps his demands were unreasonable and they didn't feel he was worth it. He should be more embarrassed that the Jays chose to let him go. Except that they didn't let him go. As far as we known, the Jays weren't pursuing other options. He wasn't happy with the way negotiations were going and he shopped his services. I'd really like to know how unreasonable his demands really were. Apparently, he wasn't so unreasonable that he couldn't find agreement with another team (and not an especially spend crazy team either). This just seems silly. If you like Seitzer enough to pursue him, if he's the guy you want in the position, just lock him up already. I really have a hard time believing the money was that outrageous.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Seitzer leaves, chances are Jays fans choice for a job with the team (Molitor) is going to get a managers job in Minny. I sense a PR batting instructor signing now. Maybe as big a name as Alomar but likely former Gibbons teammate Mookie Wilson. Maybe a bigger name guy like Bichette who isn't affiliated with the team or they jump the Yankees and get Chili Davis. Davis signed with the Red Sox a week or so ago. So much for loyalty. Gibby threw Mottola under the bus after a decent year to hire his buddy from his KC days and Seitzer jumps ship as soon as he can. Couldn't reach a deal ?? WTF I do not think it is a good thing to keep changing coaches .
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 What did he leave over, 80-100k? You'll get a much worse PR hit and people outside the org. thinking its a bad situation then if you just paid an amount that means nothing to an organization as big as the Blue Jays.

WTF I do not think it is a good thing to keep changing coaches . Agree completely. I would think continuity is pretty important when it comes to hitting coaches as long as they're getting results. The Jays will now be moving to their 4th hitting coach, and hitting philosophy, in the last 4 years. How does this even happen? I've never heard of a team not being able to come to terms with a hitting coach. If he's your "guy" how could there be such a disconnect with salary and terms when there's probably a close to standard pay band for the position? Does this organization care to pay attention at all to optics and reputation? One embarassing situation after another. It's a nice cap to the season that started with the Santana money hat.
RealAccountant Old-Timey Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Exactly what did Seitzer do to deserve to stay. The jays that had a good offensive years were expected to Those that needed to show improvement didn't. Rasmus Gose Goins all struggled anyways. So good riddance to Switzer Coaches are meaningless anyways
walkoff93 Verified Member Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 He probably wanted a multi-year deal and the Jays were only willing to do 1 year terms with their coaches.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 This explains why the Jays were interviewing a hitting coach a few weeks back. Name escapes me. I think it was Domonic Dunne?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Not a big deal, but it says a lot when coaches keep jumping ship. AA is really bad at despairing people.

baseballsss Verified Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Just how cheap is Rogers? Can't even resign their hitting coach? Lol What does rogers have to do with the mess of a payroll AA made? seriously are you that stupid?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 Just how cheap is Rogers? Can't even resign their hitting coach? Lol Pretty sure this is the result of two men digging their feet in the ground and having a dick-measuring contest, and not a result of management going to Rogers with Seitzer's contract and getting turned down.

Anyone else prepared to follow a more compelling team next year? I'm seeing a lot of different team logo avatars.

Most exciting team to follow these days is probably the Cubs, can't wait to see their offseason.

But I had the Rockies and Boxy, Abom, JFaS, North?, and others have all changed.

Second base / shortstop solved as goins hits over .300 next year. We still have cito gaston on payroll. Search complete!!!
flafson Verified Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 How the hell do you fail to extend a hitting coach? Something is really off with our team.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 We will change hitting coaches every year until someone can turn Goins into a good hitter.

Pulk_Pull Verified Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 While this may be 'no big deal', a trend I have noticed in Toronto sports that may be contributing to their inability to grow season over season is a lack of continuity. A lineup that has some of the pieces to be a top 5 lineup in the AL will now be taught by different hitting coach in 3 consecutive years. Understanding that coaches only impact a small portion of the way players approach the plate, the inability to get comfortable with one system or one approach from your hitting coach must be annoying and slightly disruptive to the team, no? It's these small moves that seem to pile up over the offseason for the Jays that end up setting them 5 steps back before the season even starts.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 While this may be 'no big deal', a trend I have noticed in Toronto sports that may be contributing to their inability to grow season over season is a lack of continuity. The problem with the Jays isn't a "lack of continuity," it's too much continuity for people who haven't earned it. Beeston should have been gone years ago, AA should have been fired after last year, and there was no reason to bring back Gibbons in the first place let alone keep him after last year. Yet they all keep their jobs regardless of the product on the field because Rogers is clueless, tonedeaf, and apathetic.
