NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 Why do we not hire whoever is Edwin's, Bautista's or Cano's hitting coach ? Who are thier guys or guy? Anthony Bosch http://hardballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/06/who-is-anthony-bosch/
AdamGreenwood Old-Timey Member Posted October 28, 2014 Posted October 28, 2014 You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. How much is too muich? 500k, 1 milllion, 2 million? How many extra wins does a hitting coach add anyway? We don't really know how the negotiations went down, or what the demands were. Also, it's possible that the Jays have a new philosophy in regards to hitting coaches. Each hitting coach has something to teach, and once they've taught that to their players, it's time to bring in a different instructor with other things to teach. For instance, Dwayne Murphy helped Bautista become the hitter he is today. But, with his absence, Bautista is still a great hitter, which makes Murphy kind of redundant.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Turns out he just took a job to be closer to his family and Atlanta gave him 3 years and he accepted. Didn't even approach the Jays to up their offer.

It is interesting that I hear this story from someone who works for the org (and it was that hard hitting reporter Gregg Zaun that reported about Seitzer moving for family reasons) and it's not public knowledge. You don't need to throw Seitzer under a bus, just play up the family angle. In the end, even a Justin Smoak signing is enough to get most to stop caring about the Jays having to sign their 13th hitting coach in 20 years.

Should've gone with "Gibbons, Hale, Leiper, and Rivera had offered to defer salary to pay for Seitzer, but he preferred the situation with the Atlanta Braves."
kgm1 Verified Member Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 It is a business and getting a 3 year deal vs 1 year at probably less money is something you have to take. I'm pissed but I do understand the process. Gibby should be the one who is embarrassed after throwing Mottola under the bus to hire his friend . Unfortunately I really liked Seitzer,s approach especially with all the shifts teams put on now.

baseballsss Verified Member Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 He preached against an aggressive approach. scouting reports had him as an aggressive player back in the day. Not sure how accurate they were though.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 30, 2014 Posted October 30, 2014 I've been saying to hire Mercedes for over a year now. Or at least bring him in as an advisor or something. They've spent a ton of money and resources into the Latin market, both for MLB and minor league players. Maybe some of them working with Mercedes could help. As far as his alcoholic and hooker obsessed ways, all that means is he'll be Gregg Zaun's favorite coach.

I'd heard that he has no interest in leaving the island as he has other business interests down there...
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 1, 2014 Posted November 1, 2014 Chances of Rasmus coming back just increased...or his the market for him was reduced to 28 teams.
