TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Looks like Coletti to the CEO and it's a done deal.
StevieRay Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 remembering when AF rejected a move to Houston Astros after their ownship change and ppl were saying how he could only succeed as a GM of a money strapped team, now he is going to the currently most rich team in the game.
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Pretty shocking. It will be interesting to see how he does now that he's got all that payroll flexibility. And there goes my wet dream of him joining the Blue Jays.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 I can't wait to hear who he's bringing with him. Silverman is a brilliant guy himself and cut from the same cloth as Friedman (Ivy League educated, through the investment world). My Dad is going to love that I'll be a Dodgers fan now (as I was as a young kid until Rick Monday)
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 It is going to be really interesting to see how he runs this team..... Rays are f***ed!

I think it will be interesting to see how he plays off his lack of PR skills and gets the Dodgers fans to buy in as he doesn't purely spend to win.
Nox Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Well then. Best Jays news in years!
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Meanwhile we're stuck with the Three Stooges. You're telling me Rogers can afford to spend $5 billion on NHL rights but they couldn't pry Friedman away from Tampa? Kudos to the Dodgers... yet another franchise that actually cares about winning and holds losers accountable. Must be nice. Wonder what that feels like.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 14, 2014 Author Posted October 14, 2014 What is fair compensation for AF? Rays will be asking for Corey Seager or Joc I'm sure.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Well then. Best Jays news in years! Not really. The Rays could hire Jack Z or Ruin Tomorrow Jr. and the idiots in charge of this franchise would still find a way to finish below them in the standings.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 What is fair compensation for AF? Rays will be asking for Corey Seager or Joc I'm sure. There may not be any compensation if it's not technically a lateral move.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 So does this mean the Rays aren't good anymore?
declan_44 Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Wow, I wonder what the dodgers offered. AF might be the highest paid gm in the game now
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 There may not be any compensation if it's not technically a lateral move. He must have had some sort of free movement clause. Great move by the Dodgers, other teams have tried to lure Friedman away in the past. Edit:
metafour Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 other teams have tried to lure Friedman away in the past. The difference now is that the Rays need to re-tool but after several poor drafts their farm system is pedestrian. Oh how the "mighty" have fallen. Friedman isn't retarded, he wasn't going to keep winning in Tampa.
LunchBox Verified Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Formal request to have thread title changed to "The Hive: Los Angeles" or something to that effect. Edit: Darrell does the Dodgers?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 So do all the Rays fanboys become Dodgers fanboys now?
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 So do all the Rays fanboys become Dodgers fanboys now? Yes. Dodgers are going to be a powerhouse. Holy s***.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm more interested to see what the Rays do without Friedman than what Friedman does without the Rays. By it's very nature, the Rays situation requires out of the box solutions so the candidates to replace Friedman should be some pretty interesting people and not necessarily obvious candidates. On the other hand, Friedman is in a no-win solution. Win with that big payroll and it's expected, lose and you suck.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Yes. Dodgers are going to be a powerhouse. Holy s***. You fanboys are weird.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Friedman left the Rays with a s***** farm system but the man knew how to trade players at the right time for the right return. I can't imagine the GM who replaces him can duplicate that.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 On the other hand, Friedman is in a no-win solution. Win with that big payroll and it's expected, lose and you suck. My guess is that the Dodgers hired Friedman in part because they want to drastically cut payroll. Rather than being around 250 they'll try to get under 200.

burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 My guess is one of the biggest reasons AF left was that he is moving to LA. He went from one warm place to another and even though Houston is warm its not LA. Really interested to see what happens now and its good news for the Blue Jays that he is out of the division. I don't think the Rays will drop off a cliff though as the org. still has really smart people.

Rather than being around 250 they'll try to get under 200. I'd imagine that less than $189M by 2016 or win a championship is the agenda there now. I agree with KK though Friedman has it tough in LA. I still think the Rays will be just fine, processes are in place. Valuations won't change, it's just a matter of people believing in them and following through. And as I said before, I'm a Friedman fan more than a Rays fan. If the Rays still follow the model I'll be a fan. But my Friedman boner can easily reach LA
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 Kind of sad how costly this season was for TB. If they win 10-15 more games, he probably stays. The challenge of competing on a small payroll is a lot less fun when things don't go your way.
