Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Good citizen? Warped sensibility you have there. Again, stick to baseball, keep the veiled insults and personal comments to yourself. Mods, please take note of this s***.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 So is he really a security guard? Or was, or whatever? I've only read bits and pieces of a broken story on this board, and didn't have the "pleasure" of experiencing it firsthand. KingKat seems like he might be an OK, normal guy when he's not on this board (and I'd be willing to drink him under the table watching Lind ruin the Jays) ... But that other guy ... Yikes ... He seems like he's plotting an "event." Oh moogy come on, we all know Kingkat would drink you under the table.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Yeah, no. Actually, that's not totally true. In my old age I've learned the following ... If I drink just a couple of drinks after not having any for a week or more, I can get tipsy off just that (even a couple quick beers). But if I have a couple of drinks one night, the next night, I have an apparently infinite tolerance. I've downed entire bottles of hard liquor (unknowingly) over the course of an evening without flinching. An entire bottle of Jager (via shots) along with innumerable beers. And I don't even drink a lot (meaning often). And no caffeine to mask the effects, either. Ok...fine you have more tolerance than anyone not named Andre the Giant. One thing that is not up for debate is that my dad could kick your dad's ass any day of the week.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I wish you all would stop quoting this douche. It really negates the usefullness of the ignore list

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Sorry, dude ... but when guys talk about gassing "retards," wishing the Jews were exterminated and talking about a "friend's" sex life in front of a minor (the guy's daughter) ... that doesn't amount to "good citizen." If you're reffering to the "Hitler finishing the job" quote, that was someone else entirely.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 Wow! Yea, you just never argue with the guy cause he has to get the last word in. I just say my piece and walk away . If Kingkat who is one of the nice guys on this board doesn't walk away this thread will never end.
burlingtonbandit Old-Timey Member Posted September 11, 2014 Posted September 11, 2014 There has been so much talk in the media about Kevin Pillar getting everyday Abs and the Blue Jays needing to find out if he is an everyday player..Like there is nothing to find out, hes a 4th outfielder at best. The guy has a 44% oSwing % with 0 walks and never showing the skill to be able to walk at more than 6% in the minors. Oh and he will be 26 next year

Oh and he will be 26 next year He is a cheap option at 4th outfielder but best Senario is he is in AAA. There are some who suggest using the 6.5 mil from Lind to resign Melky for DH but Pillar,s inability to take enough walks will show up big time in the majors .
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Goins was talked about as 2B much the same way during the end of last season and all off-season. That is my main concern. My hope is that Melky accepts the QO, that way he is only locked in for one season and gives the team an extra year to find a cheap replacement (come on Dwight Smith Jr......save us).
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Role players with options provide the most value when you take advantage of their options to expand your 25 man roster. I'd hate to see the Jays make the same mistake again this year and go with what happens to be around rather than build a solid bench.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 He's s***, if he can't walk, he's toast. As others have mentioned, he could platoon with Gose, I'm not expecting much. No power, not enough speed and not an elite defender . He would have to hit at a 320 ish clip with lots of doubles and improve in all the fore mentioned areas to be a starter. That said I see him on the roster as the 4th OF due to cost

Pillar seems to be "OK" at everything, but not great at anything. Though if he's above average against LHP (and he may be) that helps make the platoon work.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 For the record, in 198 career MLB plate appearnces, his splits are: .225/.250/.333 vs RHP .258/.286/.379 vs LHP Hmmm. Really that's not even league average against lefties. He needs to be better than that for the platoon to work well.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 BBREF doesn't give splits for the minors? Or am I missing it.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 http://minorleaguecentral.com/player?pid=607680&split=3000&type=batter Thanks man So .364/.399/.545 vs LHP .304/.350/.448 vs RHP I'd say the potential is there for him to be an acceptable platoon partner. But those K/BB rates in the majors are discouraging.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 He has always been old for the leagues he played in so I'm wary of his MILB stats . That said we need one of Gose or Pillar to hit. He actually took a walk the other day, his first in the majors I believe and while it is a SSS it still glares out at me.
Ehh Verified Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 we need some playas, not players, if you know what i mean. This team lacks the swag and confidence it takes to be a playoff team in the majors. Walks and defense dont win you games in October stroman, lawrie and bautista are a good start, but we need more than that.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I doubt it will ever happen but I'd like to see the Jays make a run at Victor Martinez. Man can hit.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I doubt it will ever happen but I'd like to see the Jays make a run at Victor Martinez. Man can hit. He sure can. But he's also almost guaranteed regression next year and he's no more positionally flexible than Lind. We really can't use him.

This team acts like they're the best in the world and in my opinion could use a player who teaches them to shut their mouths and save the celebrations for when they actually accomplish something. And as for defence and walks don't win you games...after reading that I realized you are likely trolling and I just got suckered.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The whole off season is totally dependent on the budget and the ability to get a free agent to come here which is why exercising Lind,s option is the most logical thing to do. He is cheap and already under contract. Won't matter who they have at DH if you have 3 outs at the bottom of the lineup in Pillar, Goins/Valencia, and Gose. Between those 3 outs and a bad bull pen I doubt that is a 500 team.

Agreed I was all for getting rid of Lind a couple years ago but I've changed my mind You could do a lot worse for the money (7.5M with 1M buyout). I don't think you could replace his bat for that, especially when you essentially have to add 1M to the price you're paying the incoming free agent. Spend any available $ on Melky, the middle infield and the bullpen - wherever you can get the best bang for the buck.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 The Jays should go after Jarrod Dyson from the Royals. He is nearly a 3 WAR player as a back-up. Good defense, good base running, and better offense than Gose. Maybe Happ for Dyson? Not sure how highly the Royals value him.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Again, with Colby gone, we can EASILY afford to bump Melky up from 8M per season to 12-13M.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I'm hoping melky just takes the qualifying offer. A long term deal scares me. Let him play year to year.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 That said re Lind, he should really be almost exclusively DH and let Edwin play 1B. Neither is good at all, but I think Edwin is a little bit better Edit: I checked defensive stats. At first glace they both look equally bad by dWAR but Edwin plays more games at 1B so cumulative stats aren't ideal. UZR/150 is between -10 and -11 for Edwin each of the last two years, while Lind had one season better and one season worse, one at -7.4, one at -19.5 (yuck) Bahhh. They both suck. Maybe it doesn't matter.

The Royals have been acquiring a lot of flyball pitchers and great defensive outfielders, and it's worked pretty well in that spacious park. I imagine they value Dyson appropriately.

Not likely he accepts (though fine/great if he does). Even if he refuses, it still helps our ability to retrain him. Edited September 15, 2014 by G-Snarls
