TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I know I talk about the negatives of this place often, whether it's the GDTs, the trolling, the lax moderation (which has seen a massive improvement over the past week or two) or whatever else, but I will say one thing. Despite the fact that there's a bunch of people here with high post counts already, the quality post to total post count ratio is pretty high. I think King has the forum lead at nearly 19K posts, but the majority of his posts are quality posts, and by that I mean they further or add to a discussion one way or another, whether positive or negative. There's not much empty posting done. PSD had threads where individuals would get more than 1K posts each during a single wrestling pay-per-view or a single playoff series. The GDTs are the GDTs, but there's very little spam here compared to other places I've seen. Part of it probably has to do with how the GDTs have devolved and a lot of the main posters aren't as super active in them as they can be, and another large part of the reason is probably because OTTs (off-topic threads) aren't very popular on this forum. Most other sites have very high traffic OTTs since people get familiar with one another and can discuss basically anything, pushing post counts to the sky. All things considered, this is a baseball forum that actually discusses a s***-ton of baseball. Most of the active posters almost always have something to add to a discussion, and in a way, that's probably why everyone disagrees with each other so often, because there's so much to discuss and debate in the first place. And if you ignore all the GDT crap and the trolling and the banhammer requests, that's a really healthy thing to have on a forum. Take it from someone that was a moderator and one of the first registered members of a sports forum that was trying to get off the ground (failed project). Getting people to consistently discuss topics that are worthy of discussion is really hard, and this place has no problem when it comes to that. I think that's kinda remarkable.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Not bad......... He's turned out to be a pretty successful finance manager, or whatever that is he claims to be. I wouldn't mind turning out like him. Matt Harvey? really? i thought he literally sat on twitter all day lol
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I don't have 1000 posts, but I never posted on the old forum. I actually found this site through a Google search. I did read the old board from time to time, though - enough to know it was a cesspool.

While i can agree with everything you wrote there except, the part aboit spam. Lately this place has gotten hard to come to and read. Not sure if it's cause finally we are winning and people are getting ahead of themselves or what but theres a lot of stupid around here lately.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Anyone here ever post at the Jays forum on Prosportsdaily??? I was one of the more active posters during my time there, and even though I ended up getting sick and tired of the people, I still had things I liked about that site, so it's strange now that I went back and lurked at it recently to realize that the place has died a very slow and painful death. In 2012, the time when I was probably most active on PSD, it was commonplace for their Blue Jays GDTs to get 2000-3000 posts a series. Now it's been relegated to something like 200-300 posts per series, with the bulk of those posts coming from the same bitchwad poster that drove me to leave that site in the first place. All of their forums have seen that kind of misery across the board. The Red Sox vs Twins matchup that just ended in a back-to-back homer walkoff has a total of 15 posts for the entire series. That's f***ing crazy to me. Just really weird how far the entire board has fallen. But at the same time, there's a satisfaction in that. PSD was a major corporate forum that was run exactly how you'd imagine a corporate website to be run. Seeing them fading is almost redeeming in that sense. If I had some sort of power or say in how to run one of these forums, I think taking many of the elements from this board with many of the elements from that board and coming up with something out of that would make a phenomenal forum.
43211234 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I joined the old board in 2009 I believe and only had ~500 posts there from that time until the revolution. I lurked daily though.

Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I posted A LOT more on the old board than this one (80% of my posts these days are on the off topic boards). I want to try and post more on the general board though because there's a lot of new interesting posters here I don't know as well as some of the older guys.

1878NHLYR Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I'm definitely new. I doubt even one of these alleged multi account lunatics you have would have moved across the Atlantic to hide their identity. Visited Toronto in May (great city by the way) and took in a Blue Jays game (v Tampa) and enjoyed it 50 times more than I thought I would. I've been to a lot of American sports events over the years and enjoyed most of them but I've just felt strangely drawn back to the Jays since I got home. Found myself looking for streams to watch the games whenever I can and checking results the following morning when I can't. I got up at 2am for a pee last night and before I knew it I was logging online to see how the game was going. I have travelled quite a lot throughout the years and I'm not one of these cranks that has multiple teams that they claim to follow, other than my local football (soccer) team the Blue Jays are the 1st I've felt some kind of attachment to, no idea why. The problem I have forum wise is that I have no f***ing idea what most of the threads are about. I thought I understood the game when I was there (with the help of my son) but then when you get to talking about the nuances of the game I'm lost and so I can't really add much. Hopefully I'll learn as I go along. Should be back over for a few games this year and finances allowing I plan on getting over at least once a season in future. Funnily enough I despise the way my local team (United) have become some kind of international freak show with tourists from all over the world turning up every week and taking tickets away from local people. I suppose that makes me a hypocrite but as I understand it it's the Yankees that bandwagon jumpers head to so hopefully I wont dilute the hardcore support too much.
Nabru Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Never had an account on the Jays' website forum. I've always been a lurker and felt that I wouldn't have much to add to a place that was so poorly moderated and poorly laid out. I probably read that board off and on since about 2004 though. Same with this place, I was aware of it when it first started up and read since it's incarnation last year, I just don't have much to add. This place is much better and much easier on the eyes but man, there's still people who obviously are making several accounts. That's absolutley pathetic. Just like the old place but mot nearly as bad. My only explanation is those people are kids with no school, no job and have nothing to do. Has to be, right?

How about you go f*** yourself buddy? What "other accounts"? Only reason I made this account was because a mod permabanned my original ID for making spanky cry when I reminded him that he's a welfare drunk/addict that no woman will ever want to f***. So go back to making stupid knee jerk threads about how someone sucked between cherry picked arbitrary dates and keep my name out of your mouth unless I give you just cause you little ****.
Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I had an MLB.com account for their s***** fantasy ball, and despite the fact that I looked for an active Jays forum for a while, both the official Jays forum and Real GM had layouts that were way too messy for me. Maybe that's a preference I developed along the way of moderating and being an active part of several established gaming/sports forums, but I can't stand a bad forum layout. Especially the "old board" I have no idea where the hell they got that jurassic formatting, but there wasn't even a proper quote function. Beyond that, everytime I tried to check out that forum, I never got the impression that it was very active, but from what everyone here says, I guess I missed something. Had I known how active it was, I might have bit the bullet, but I guess I caught a lucky break because I never met any of the famous trolls from that board. I had more than 10K+ posts on PSD before coming here though, which was arguably at times a bigger cesspool than any other forum I've seen, excluding what goes on in the GDTs here. I've literally been cringing reading all these recent "please make me a mod here I'm begging you" posts of yours. Ugh. Seriously dude. Yuck.

I thought I understood the game when I was there (with the help of my son) but then when you get to talking about the nuances of the game I'm lost and so I can't really add much. Hopefully I'll learn as I go along. Just read, and feel free to ask questions... A lot of us can get snarky (and/or seriously mean) at times, but it's usually when new (or newish) posters talk as though they know things when they're 100%, demonstrably wrong, or they come off as smug *******s... Trying to learn is a noble goal and I don't think you'll find too much of a push back for genuine inquiry. If you come to town for a game, I'm sure some forum regulars would be happy to meet up and show you around etc, there are certainly a few meet-ups for games (and pre/post game drinks, obviously...). Edit: As to the original topic of the board, I do not qualify for this thread, but apparently it's a goddamn mystery to some as to who I was on the old board...

Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 I had that summer on the old board where I posted like a madman, it was usually me or Dinger with the most posts per week. I gotta say it's great to get some fans here from the UK. From what I've seen so far, European fans in general are pretty loyal to their teams and are often among the better posters when they do join up to American forums. Great to have you here and I hope you choose to say.
