Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 That's not the setup, it's just the strategy that the Blue Jays created and every team followed. You're only allowed a certain amount of money to use on the draft and have to fit that cap, or else you lose future picks. They punt early, and get great talents that fell down the board late. You get the same result in the end, except the one small fact that a lot of good prospects won't be able to brag about their draft positions. 10 years from now, you won't be able to measure talent based on where they were drafted, because it's common for Top 150 talents to go in the 11-40 rounds, making it a big clusterf***. I understand how it works. I've followed the Jays draft every year. It's still s***** haha!!!!!
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 The draft setup is f***ing silly. Punting picks to save money? 1-3: Talented guys 4-10: s*** guys to save money 11-40: s*** guys + Some talented expensive guy.

Haha yep I was just going to say, the Blue Jays actually were the first team to do this at such an extreme level.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 http://www.pacersports.com/sports/bsb/2013-14/photos/Metzler_Action04.jpg University of South Carolina Aiken baseball standout Ryan Metzler has been named the National Collegiate Baseball Writer’s Association’s Southeast Regional Hitter of the Week, which was released Wednesday afternoon. It marks just the second time in NCBWA history that a Pacer has won the award, with the first coming Apr. 2 when Ty Barkell picked up the accolade. Metzler was nearly flawless for the Pacers, hitting .706 in four games with six RBIs. The junior went 12-for-17 in four games, including 10-for-14 (.714) in a three-game sweep of GRU Augusta. He collected multiple hits in three of the four contests, going 4-for-4 in the opener against the Jaguars and 5-for-6 in game two, with a double and three RBIs. Metzler also stole two bases in three attempts, had a .737 on-base percentage with a couple of walks and no strikeouts and was perfect in 22 chances at second base with 13 assists and nine putouts. The team also moved into the top 25 rankings by the NCBWA this week. After receiving votes last week, the team jumped into the top 25 at No. 16. Metzler and the rest of the Pacers return home Wednesday when they host Newberry. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. Live stats, video and audio will be available at PacerSports.com. The Pacers square off at No. 10 Columbus State this weekend.
billjc33 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 It is a stupid system. Players should have to declare themselves for the draft with money being set for all picks. If your a highschooler and are going into the draft as a potential 5th rounder or later you choose to declare yourself for that money or go to college, pick one or the other. NHL rookies top out at $900k per year for the first 3 years you make money if you produce at the pro level. You should not get 9 mil because you were good in high school. There should be no such thing as a re-draft, the system, especially for the first few rounds should be the same as the nba. Having to punt picks to sign people is stupid. It is a draft you should always be drafting the best available player.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Nick Wells Round 3 - Projectable lefty out of high school. Fastball sits low 90s, touches 93. Also features a changeup and a curveball. Matt Morgan Round 4 - Very good defensive catcher, not a bad hitter either. High school. Lane Thomas Round 5 - 5 tool OF. Reported to have agreed to signing already. High school. Grayson Huffman Round 6 - Cheap guy, college sign. LHP Zack Zehner OF Round 7 - Cheap guy, college sign. Justin Shafer LHP Round 8 - Cheap guy, college sign. Shafer can be good. I have seen him a lot this year. I see him getting much better once he gets in our system.

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 At this point, I'd still like McKinney, maybe Whitson. Dunno who else is still available.
billjc33 Verified Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 rounds 6-10 are lame. Round 11 is the only other round I'm really interested in. Not to sure how much money they are going to save on the 9th and 11th picks. I would hope Wells going at 83 and ranked 119 would go a little under slot. Not sure what Taylor will cost. So they take one more high profile guy incase they can sign one of wells or reid foley. Do you think they will have enough money left over to sign one more $500-750k player if they sign everyone?
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 Jays take a Canadian Jordan Romano RHP mlb couldn't sound less interested in Romano.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2014 Author Posted June 6, 2014 TwistedLogic should have an updated graphic soon. I've got em ready all the time at this point, just ask and I'll post em. I just don't post them every few picks because I don't want to spam people with large images. I usually delete the previous posts, but still. Anyways I'll post an update now and then another at the end of the draft if I'm still at home (might be out before then). Edit: Almost at the end of the 10th round, just gonna wait itll it's done.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted June 6, 2014 Posted June 6, 2014 counts against the bonus pool but doesn't increase the total. Yep. They should probably extend that to the 5-10 rounds... would cut down on shenanigans.
