BTS Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 My brother took over a 12 team dynasty league and asked for my advice. But that would sort of be like the blind leading the blind. So I'm reaching out to help him. He can only keep 3 of these pitchers in a points league: Syndergaard, Brayan Bello, Detmers, Brady Singer, Cavalli, Ian Anderson, Sixto Sanchez, Jack Leiter, Nate Pearson or Bauer (which I told him to drop straight out). Singer Sanchez Detmers

Yeah I would be boring here and just go Syndergaard, Singer, Detmers. Sixto had another shoulder procedure last month. Guys like Anderson/Bello/Pearson are replacement level now in a shallow league like that. Your brother probably has lots of work to do
FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Singer Sanchez Detmers Thanks. They were at the top of the list for me, along with Bello; although maybe Bello is more suited as a reliever? What about Leiter? I guess his performance last year made him drop a fair bit.

He actually has some decent pitchers that I didn't mention (Cease, Gilbert, Eury Perez, etc..) These are just the pitchers he's on the fence about, and can only keep so many before the draft. He has an amazing team on the position player side of things, but he needs to improve on the pitching side.

If he has good bats but mostly young pitching like that then I would say definitely lean for boring veterans like Syndergaard as keepers, over lottery tickets. He can hunt for pop up impact pitching on the waiver wire during the season.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Bello, Detmers, Singer for me Bello will get his SP opportunities with the Bosox Syndergaard gonna be a gascan going forward
FantasyNewb Verified Member Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Thanks, everyone. Helped me narrow it down to Syndergaard, Detmers, Singer, Bello, and Sanchez. He also has Bellinger and doesnt know what to do with him. He's wondering if I think he can bounce back, or if he should try and get a pick in return.
BTS Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I feel like Syndergaard is replacement level now in a 12-team league

He’s borderline droppable in 20-team leagues at this point.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 Bellinger was still worth money in 12 and 15 team leagues, in basic 5x5 and points setups. Nuked AVG but he did go 19/14
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 You guys are overcorrecting on Syndergaard by the way. He's boring but young enough that one more year removed from his surgeries could mean an uptick in velocity. And a 3.80 FIP in 2022 is a good enough starting point.

Laika Community Moderator Posted October 19, 2022 Posted October 19, 2022 I think if Bellinger stays with the Dodgers he'll be a strict platoon player hitting 9th and he will suck again. He might even end up worse than a platoon player if he stays with LA in 2023. I could see him starting out in a strict platoon and then even losing that job at times... If he gets a change of scenery he might be a full time player who hits 6th in lineup. And who knows maybe a different voice in his ear would help SOMETHING.

Its hard to watch him struggle so badly after being a literal MVP at such a young age. LAD probably relieved as f*** they never extended him. Gotta think he still has the ability to be a 3-4 WAR player… I hope he finds it with a new team

I am same same as some others. However, considering it is a Dynasty league, I would probably go Singer, Detmers, Cavalli.

Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 20, 2022 Posted October 20, 2022 What do you guys make of Yelich? I have him in a dynasty league and he's taking up about 11% of my budget. $34 to keep and we have a $300 salary cap. My cap situation is pretty good and given the rules of this league the free agency auction is always weak (players only go up $3 every year). So he's definitely a keeper to someone in the league but I won't drop him. But I doubt I'd get a ton of value for him via trade. So my options are probably trade for peanuts (if anything I could get a similar pricey underperformer like him or get a pick and the salary relief to use in acquiring other guys in different trades) or I could just keep him. What do you guys think?

What do you guys think? He's not even a top 30 outfielder by wRC+ over the last 3 years. He makes me think of Cutch circa ~2018. How deep is the league?

L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 I would not use 10% of my budget on Yelich Package him with another player to upgrade at that position even if it’s a mild upgrade
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 14 teamer Even if the budgets tend not to be spent during the waiver draft... do they tend to be spent during the season? Like FAAB for debuting players?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted October 21, 2022 Posted October 21, 2022 Even if the budgets tend not to be spent during the waiver draft... do they tend to be spent during the season? Like FAAB for debuting players? Nope, the budgets are mostly used to retain players. It's also a soft cap so you're only required to be at $300 bucks at the conclusion of the waiver draft. You can make trades and pickups afterward that put you over but you have to cut before the draft again next year. What the smart teams generally do is try to use up most of their budget on retaining players and end up with little to spend in the waiver draft. If Yelich were in the draft he'd probably go between 30 and 40 bucks I would imagine and would be one of the top 5 guys in the waiver draft easy. That's how s***** the waiver draft is.
