Maahfaace Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Jays are down nearly 7k fans a game (23.7k), quite the drop from last year (30.5k). This could greatly impact Rogers' motto of "we spend when the seats are full", and could really mean the end of AA if the jays are floundering and drawing 22-23k by years end. Anyone think Rogers will push for a firesale as well? I can't believe how little Cleveland has drawn this year, they should call up Charlie Sheen and his sick glasses http://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/current_attendance.shtml#attendance::7
Fearthedoc Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 It makes sense. We sit at 23,000 nearly every year. The reason attendance was so high last year was because fans anticipated a competitive team. A lot of those high numbers probably game from excessive tickets purchased before the season even started. That just shows that fans in this city are willing to support a competitive team. I'm sure a playoff berth would gain us at least 30,000 per game next year.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 The reason the roof hasn't been open is due to a awful winter and a chilly, wet spring, making it difficult for the Jays to test the roof. Jays have no control over the weather. Hopefully by next homestand the roof will be open, as the weather is expected to warm by then.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Regarding the attendance, keep in mind we have not had a lot of games with the Yankees and Red Sox yet. We also haven't had many weekend home games either. It'll pick up this weekend, as we have 3 straight weekend series(I have tickets for the Royals and Cardianls series, BTW)
flafson Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 People spent good money last year and got a kick in the ass for it. For people to come again they need to see signs this team is competitive. Maybe if we have some lead in the AL East it will happen.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Well, we're only 1 game out of 1st and 0.5 back of a wild card, if that helps.
flafson Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Well, we're only 1 game out of 1st and 0.5 back of a wild card, if that helps. Obviously it doesn't because attendance is still low. It might help the TV ratings though.
walkoff93 Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 I don't know if this is a factor, but if you try to buy advance tickets, almost all the good seats are gone if you try and go through the Blue Jays website. You can only get decent seats through stubhub and at a higher price.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 You can't say " they're only 1 game out of 1st in the East and .5 game out of the WC and the fans aren't showing up". This team is hovering around .500 and hasn't been higher than 2 games above .500 all year, that's not enough to excite any fan base. Get to between 5-10 games over .500 by mid June and then you can judge attendance.

It doesn't help that the people running the team are basically liars. Add in the fact my extreme hatred for anything Rogers and I will not waste a cent on these *******s. I watch on TV, that's it.

SantosLHalper21 Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 When you tell your fans you want to work on starting pitching and nabbing a second basemen to help out with the offence and when you deliver NOTHING...no wonder the fans don't show up. Add to it the cost of concessions at the Rogers Center, the terrible baseball weather Toronto is having, and of course, the s***** year the Jays had last year...the attendance will be down...no doubt about it.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Well, we're only 1 game out of 1st and 0.5 back of a wild card, if that helps. Wow! I never knew we were so close! I've never, EVER seen the Jays so poised to win the division before, not since '93!
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Lies. Global warming is REEL!! 1!!! Kindly post that in the racist thread and I'll even more kindly tear you a new one.
AngryBird Verified Member Posted May 19, 2014 Posted May 19, 2014 Crappy dome, roof closed, team was terrible last year and this year they barely did anything to improve, why wouldn't the city be skeptical of the product they're going to watch?

Smedley Butler Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Are you suggesting it's not?? And I thought I was stupid for saying that cold air rises lmao In the 70's the media hysteria regarding climate was regarding an incoming new ice age. The climate generally oscillates between ~20 year cycles of rising/falling temperatures, the latest warming cycle ended about a decade ago, the climate has actually been COOLING since then, however wayyyyyy too many people make a living off of the concept for it to ever go away without a fight. AGW is a lucrative religion now, we're stuck with it no matter what.

o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 You can't disagree that we are quickly destroying our planet though.. I wont argue that, but saying climate changes is like saying the wind blows. then trying to use that as political leverage to tax the world for it is evil. The planet will still be here when we are long gone. It has survived worse tortures than humans.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Are you suggesting it's not?? Governator Community Moderator Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 The average fan needs to be proven it's a worthy investment to fill the seats again. Based off last season, the odds are more likely they will walk away disappointed rather than satisfied (.457%) after shoveling out a lot of money for tickets, parking & food.
reedjohnsonfan Verified Member Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Not sure if this has been mentioned but I believe the Jays tend to draw better relative to other teams during the warmer months. People are hockey crazed regardless of who's in the playoffs, and few very people including myself like going to games before the roof is cracked. They'll draw more fans soon.

I don't bother buying tickets until June/July/August, can't stand the Rogers Centre with the roof closed, it's almost as bad as Tropicana Field.

Yep, same here. I am planning to go Sunday and as of right now it's supposed to be mid 20s and sunny. If they don't open the roof I'm going to get a refund on my tickets and hit the golf course and not give a crap about the game.

I remember in season's past there were actually some extremely nice days in May, and early June and they didn't open the roof. It was odd to say the least, and I was sitting on my couch and infuriated for the fans who paid good money to watch the team.

I have no clue why it wasn't open on Mother's day, that would have made the fan experience a lot better on one of the better early season draws. Maybe something is up... in honesty I haven't bought tickets yet but if they don't open it this weekend I am not wasting my money watching a game at Tropicana 2.0.
