TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Why does everyone suddenly want to trade Sanchez? The hive mentality is very real around here. I don't think it's the majority still...I think that there is a certain population of Jays fans who will always associate Sanchez with Synder. There were very few that loved both equally. So those that liked Syndergaard, tend to look for the negatives in Sanchez (and there are some large concerns with Sanchez). If Florida was willing to take Sanchez instead...well it's possible we went the wrong direction, but that is something we'll never know if it was the case. I still like Sanchez over any minor league pitcher other than Stroman (Will hold off anointing Norris yet) , he's got time to get it together. He's become a groundball machine which is a huge positive, and seldom do you hear about him giving up solid contact. Right now the absolute best comp I can come up with for Sanchez is Wily Peralta (who is improving with the walks every year)
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 I have already moved Norris ahead of both Stroman and Sanchez. I think its time to get Shark. Shark's price isn't coming down at this point.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 it's one outing...but he appears to be a guy who thinks way too much out there. Facing his 8th batter of the game, he's had 6 weak groundouts and 1 K. He starts the number 8 hitter 2 and 0 and he becomes visibly upset, walks off the mound. Comes back delivers a strike and then gets another weak groundout. He's still obviously upset when facing the number 9 hitter and walks him on 5 pitches. Mookie Betts gets a ground ball single and Sanchez looks absolutely lost. He gave up one legit hit (a 3-1 double to the gap) but he didn't get anything for swinging strikes (a few foul balls but not even one swing and miss. His strikeouts were looking). He faced 14 batters and he started 12 of them 1-0. My count was 27 balls and 23 strikes (I'd say that 16 of the balls were not even close). I really think it's fixable for him as it's probably release point and mental issues...mechanically he looks sound. But then again I'm not great at figuring out pitching mechanics. Will be interesting to look at the k-swinging rates once he hits AAA and we can see them tracked. Sounds like a young Chris Carpenter
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Honestly guys, internet couch prospecting isn't ALL about minor league K and BB rates..... (Just mostly).
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 obviously a year and a half of Shark vs a lot more cheap years of a young kid. I'm not 100% against the idea...but I'd rather have a year and a half of price....not saying we could get price for that...but with price you know what your getting..he's been in the AL east his entire career. The AL East kinda sucks these days.
Convo Verified Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 AL East run differential: Blue Jays 20, Orioles, -1, Red Sox -3, Yankees -11, Rays -12 We basically have the best Offense in the majors. Statistically we are ranked 2nd in most categories, behind only the Rockies but the Rockies play in that fantasy ball park where every fly ball is a HR.

We couldn't and still can't fix Drabek, the chances we fix Sanchez is unlikely. Are player development is crap. Not a good sign at all.

Holy f*** - imagine if Cabrera, Bautista, EE, Lind and Rasmus got to play 81 games in there. How many home runs??
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Ahh how cute, BTS finally learned after over-hyping pretty much every prospect for a few years that most of them don't work out. Hes finally learning =D except for the fact that there are 10 not yet arbitration eligible pitchers in the top 30 pitchers so far this season (including one Jay). I think the correct response is that in most cases (not all) you have to see some results in the minors and recognize what stats carry forward and which it takes a serious change to be successful. Good orgs are the ones where their struggling prospects (or all prospects) actually get better results as they move up levels.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 Holy f*** - imagine if Cabrera, Bautista, EE, Lind and Rasmus got to play 81 games in there. How many home runs?? last time I looked Rogers Centre had a much higher HR park factor than Coors.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 last time I looked Rogers Centre had a much higher HR park factor than Coors. Yes RC is a good hitters park. But as much as Coors is? If are thinking of last year perhaps that was a bit of an outlier though?
Caper Verified Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 The BABIP monster lives in Colorado. But the Rogers Centre is an absolute bandbox. Especially in the summer with the roof open. Teams combining for 5-6 homeruns is really the norm. And the windows out of windows restaurant.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted May 9, 2014 Posted May 9, 2014 The issue with Sanchez isn't just about performance, Ks or BBs. It's about him. His delivery, his arm action and his arsenal. If he could change that ... basically everything about himself as a pitcher, then keep him. If not, deal him to someone willing to take the risk, and who thinks he has value. Can you stop talking out of your ass?

Roy Halladay had inconsistent minor league stats, arrived on the team, was good briefly, then totally crashed and burned. He changed his approach and became one of the best starters in Jays history. At various points in that process, people could have posted he was a huge disappointment and would never be any good, or that he's almost a lock to be a star. Yet you think Sanchez, a guy that REAL major league scouts rank as a strong prospect, isn't good enough based on an extremely limited run in minor league ball. And let's be real here, his stats aren't that bad, I can remember some good major league pitchers having horrible minor league stats. To say Sanchez at his age has "no value" is absurd. In fact, when people are drooling over Stroman or Syndegaard, the truth is Sanchez at this point could end up being better then either one of them, and no one knows at this point. He's an asset because of his potential.

KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 (edited) So before this furhter degenerates into a Moogy/CHP shouting match, does any one have any kind of follow up on this? Why was Sanchez pulled? Edited May 10, 2014 by KingKat
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 So before this furhter degenerates into a Moogy/CHP shouting match, does any one have any kind of follow up on this? Why was he pulled? Had a huge amount of pitches in a rough 3rd inning, so they decided to pull him. Not hurt.
KingKat Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2014 Posted May 10, 2014 Had a huge amount of pitches in a rough 3rd inning, so they decided to pull him. Not hurt. So basically non-story other than its further evidence that he hasn't turned that proverbial corner.
