Ehjays Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Is he even on the 40 man roster? I don't think he is
Smokey Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 That guy probably died. Only one that fails is the one that tried to make a joke of it in a GIF, and anyone else who uses it. Wow so sensitive! You might want to consider reducing your soy intake or whatever else that's turning you into a little bitch!
Smokey Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 i am one of the few that believes aa can still be a very good gm. As weird as it sounds i think he just needs to get the spark back, which could probably start by him just getting a bit healthier and getting some more confidence. wat
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Nice to dream about Romero..... I'll put money on Drabek being a more effective pitcher than Romero this year... any takers?
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Author Posted March 13, 2014 Nice to dream about Romero..... I'll put money on Drabek being a more effective pitcher than Romero this year... any takers? They are kind of the same pitcher. They both have good arms, but struggle with the mental side of things. Ricky has done it before though. Drabek will start in AAA. Ricky has a realistic chance of winning a spot in the rotation. He was scheduled to pitch 3 yesterday and they sent him out for a fourth to see how he would respond. Now he's scheduled to start a game next week. The plans for Ricky have changed. I think the odds of him winning a spot in the rotation before camp started were 5%. Now if he pitches 6 innings next start with a reasonable result the spot is his imo. If he blows up he probably starts in buffalo.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 A 2011 or better Romero is just what this rotation needs! Romero and Hutch are going to save AA's career. This is what I am going to believe so that I can hope for something to watch all summer long.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Just compared RR 2013 spring training stats with 2014.... gives some reason for optimism Hopefully Romero can at least be the innings eater we thought Santana would be
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 You'd want 2010 Romero if anything, but Romero's never been an ace. lol yeah right, so you wouldn't want 2011 Romero? Sure his ERA was lucky that year, but regardless, anything close to 2010 or 2011 performance over 200+ IP from Romero would be tremendous for this staff. At this point beggars can't be choosers. Dickey, Morrow, and Hutch provide upside. A reliable Ricky to go along with a reliable Buehlre would be just fine. This is all a hope and a prayer as it is.
Brenner Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 You just need to turn your brain off and live in the ignorance is bliss fantasy land of AA where all that could go right this year will go right, starting with today's souvlaki for lunch.

CHRIS Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Jokes aside, if Romero could give this team about 160-180 innings of non-terribleness, it would be a big boost for this team. And yes, I'm aware of how sad that sounds.
walkoff93 Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 I'll drive, until the first bad outing.
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted March 13, 2014 Posted March 13, 2014 Jokes aside, if Romero could give this team about 160-180 innings of non-terribleness, it would be a big boost for this team. And yes, I'm aware of how sad that sounds. Isn't that kind of what Esmil Rogers did for us last year ? We have several guys who might upside surprise, their pitching will tell the tale. If Romero is for real ( I have my doubts ), they need to move some surplus mediocre ML pitching out for an IF or bench player. Need to anyways but even more reason. Otherwise, with that contract he has to go to AAA because no one will claim him ( kind of like Lind a few years ago ), and be ready for call up if he dominates AAA. If AA continues this 2013 charade of an extended bullpen and dodging waiver claims its all going to be pretty silly if we have the weak bench again. I lost confidance in AA last season when he started doing that nonesense.

kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Romero bandwagon by April 15th http://lotgk.files.wordpress.com/2008/08/2007game02wagon.jpg I actually don't expect him to go north with the team . Head to AAA and make sure he gets his K/BB up to 2 at least . With his stuff he should K more and if he gets better commanding his pitches that should translate into more strikeouts and less walks
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 If he could bounce back to how he was a couple of years ago, we might have a punchers chance.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Romero and McGowan are the way out of left field wild cards . Getting lucky with one of them while not the type of thing you would bet on is something that would make a huge difference in the rotation . I know it is easy to doubt but we still think Morrow will be our #2 and really the odds of that are getting longer too
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Funny I would include Morrow there as well
KSaw Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 It's all silly. The Marlins will trade Jacob Turner to the first team willing to overpay with prospects. I'm not suggesting a gross overpayment but AA has dealt with them before. Turner has looked great this Spring. Just figure out a deal and pull the trigger.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Absolutely I'm on board....of hoping that is. HE does look different this year so far, there's no denying that. And I would much prefer aiming to use him as a starter then McGowan. If the organization tries to stretch DM back into a starter that would be a travesty IMO.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Romero looked great. Walked 2 and hit a batter in 4IP.

guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Yay!!! Let's focus on the negative!!!! Go Toronto Fans!!! yeah you're right, we still have to let this team "gel" before looking at their record
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Yay!!! Let's focus on the negative!!!! Go Toronto Fans!!! Keep living in your fantasy world that has Romero not having a 1:1 or worse k/bb ratio.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Romero looked great. Walked 2 and hit a batter in 4IP. I bet they were competitive walks though. And the hit batter looked at him sideways so he deserved it.
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 I bet they were competitive walks though. And the hit batter looked at him sideways so he deserved it. The hit batter had a curve in his cap. Romero finds that distracting.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 Keep living in your fantasy world that has Romero not having a 1:1 or worse k/bb ratio. What on earth? And herein lies the problem with the majority of Toronto fans. Heaven forbid someone mention how that a player has looked good so far this year. And if you've watched any of his innings there's no denying that - this year he has shown glimpses of his old self and has played well enough to warrant having some people becoming hopeful. I don't see anyone saying he's a shoe-in to be an ace or even a competent starter, just some of us like to think about the possibility that something good happens to a club we support. Of course in Toronto with hope comes an onslaught on negativity and criticism.
pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 The results haven't been good. Walks still way too high. Incorrect (well the part about results, sure 5 walks in 7 innings isn't good). His stuff has had much more life to it. He isn't walking guy after guy like he used to (and the one time he did he escaped unharmed). Hasn't appeared as rattled as he used to. And the swings and missed he is getting are much more impressive then last two years. I assume you haven't watched the actual innings he's been involved in, but if you do and compare it against the past couple years it's encouraging. The results have been promising enough to warrant hope - that's the point I'm making.

pickoff22 Verified Member Posted March 14, 2014 Posted March 14, 2014 It's ST. Small sample size is small. WHAT!?!?! This isn't the regular season????? Obviously I know that. And I know what I've seen when it comes to the pitches he has thrown irregardless of who's at bat. And 7 innings over multiple outings isn't a big sample size, but it's also not tiny. Again, he's given us reason to have a conversation about him and certainly enough reason for the non-pessimists to have hope. I believe he's starting against the Tigers in an "away" game (meaning Tigers will field decent amount of regulars). That will be a bigger test for him. Let's hope he produces.
