GNick Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I think it is good signing. Stroman, Hutch haven't pitched enough innings to be stating every 5th in the majors. Their arms aren't built up enough. This allows the Jays to trade a starter late in year and bring up one of those young arms in August.

Brenner Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Can't go wrong with 1 yr deal, wouldn't mind a two year either. Sign Drew after this and I like our team.

What signing, haven't you heard, the O's are now favorites to get him.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 "We tried, but when we saw Hutchison and Esmil Rogers against the Twins, we felt more comfortable with what we had". A reliable source confirming that Santana has signed with the Jays, only for him to sign with the Orioles, is so annoying and frustrating that it seems like a logical thing to happen to Blue Jays fans.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Did this board just blow up for anyone else?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I honestly don't care if we don't get him. If he doesn't get us to the playoffs, then he is useless, and if anything he'll get us one or two useless wins that further drop our draft position next year. Did this board just blow up for anyone else? For everyone.

Yup. Woke up and saw Report: Jays Sign Santana but I just knew that when I looked a little deeper it wouldn't be true

eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Guys, it's Ervin Santana. Him signing in Baltimore really doesn't matter. Alright there Debbie Downer.
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm not going to lose my s*** over Ervin Santana. Saying that - Santana on a 1 year contract with the ability to QO him next year would be real nice.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If he signs...I'll set a May 15th deadline for a serious DFA Santana thread.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If he signs...I'll set a May 15th deadline for a serious DFA Santana thread. that's if he signs with the jays...if he signs with the orioles we'll be discussing whether he will start the all star game by may 15th..lol
TheHurl Site Manager Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Our. And what options are those that you refer? Deck McGuire? I'll take the under on Deck at 5.00 Still believin'
8D Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well, f***. I'd rather have JJ on the same terms and save a second rounder while I'm at it. Ughh... at least it's better than standing pat.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Not likely. Stroman, Hutchison, Rogers and Redmond should all fall somewhere under 4.5. Santana stabilizes things a bit, and probably adds a win, but if Baltimore is offering 1/16 or something I don't blame AA for walking away. #Despair changed of side
S33n Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 What's it going to take for people to realize that Johnson was absolutely f***ing horrific last year? How could you possibly count on him to be a solid part of a rotation after what we witnessed?

S33n Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well he pitches for the Padres now. So I'm not to worried. Thank god, but what I'm saying is people are still harping on and on about him. He was horrible, why anybody would want him on 14M is beyond me. If the difference between signing Ervin or not signing him is so miniscule we shouldn't be worried/talking about it, then Johnson' name shouldn't be brought up 100x a day either.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 14M is more than I would've offered. The Jays shouldn't increase that offer at all, let the Orioles get him.

How could you possibly count on him to be a solid part of a rotation after what we witnessed? Ervin Santana was f***ing horrible 2 years ago. And a lot more horrible than the JJ horrible.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Santana was at least as bad in 2012. You're buying his 2014, not 2013. At 1/16 Santana represents a $5-10 million increase in investment compared to JJ if you factor the pick in. That's bad business. AA is a f***ing moron. You just KNOW that the reason we didn't re-sign JJ is because AA didn't want to upset the fans. Most of the "fans" think that JJ is garbage and never want to see him again.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 However, expect the casuals to lose their s*** on twitter after Santana goes to the Orioles for a million or 2 more than the Jays offered, lol. I'm ok with it. As long as they keep the few remaining upper-minors prospects and get closer to blowing it up mid-season.
