eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Finally something positive. Still a little hesitant until an official report comes out though.
The_DH Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I think the innings pitched will really help settle the staff.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Sad state of affairs when we're jizzing our pants over an Ervin Santana signing...
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Now. Package around Happ and a prospect or two for one of the Mariners 2B and we're set.
Key22 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If he's healthy he will provide close to 200IP and solid albeit not spectacular numbers - Number 3/4. If Morrow can finally live up to the hype and Dickey/Beurhle do what they do it will be a pretty respectable rotation with Happ/Hutchison/Drabek/Stroman/McGowan/Rogers/Redmond/Jenkins and Romero battling for the fifth spot. It would be SOOO nice if Romero could bounce back - it would be nice to have a nice bit of luck for once.
havok24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Good signing. The team still isn't good enough. We need to kind of poach Nick Franklin from the Mariners. I mean maybe Jack Z likes Sierra lol.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Sad state of affairs when we're jizzing our pants over an Ervin Santana signing... Santana is a good pitcher. He's going to give us a ton of innings. The home runs are troubling but he's a huge upgrade over the crap we're sending out there now.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 This actually saves the season. I was kinda depressed about our chances, now I'm fired up and can't wait for April.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 You mean this $150 million ~84 win team doesn't do it for you? Crazier things have happened. The Orioles have played over their heads the last two years. You just never know. This is a huge signing. Allows us to keep Hutch and Stroman down for some more seasoning.
RickyWalks Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 What was the QO to JJ going to be?
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 3/8/14: Blue Jays sign Ervin Santana to one-year deal 3/9/14: Blue Jays announce Ervin Santana has a torn labrum, out for season
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 If the owners of this franchise wanted an efficiently built roster, they wouldn't have approved the payroll increase last off season. In fact, they would've traded Bautista, Morrow and others for prospects during the 2012 off season or during the 2013 season.
JaysAllMighty Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Finally, now a 2nd. baseman please AA
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Seriously. One more trade for one of the young Mariners 2B and things will look a lotttt brighter.
flafson Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Author Posted March 8, 2014 Finally, now a 2nd. baseman please AA That won't happen.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Crazier things have happened. The Orioles have played over their heads the last two years. You just never know. This is a huge signing. Allows us to keep Hutch and Stroman down for some more seasoning. I'd rather go with Dickey MB Santana Morrow Hutch I don't want Happ anywhere near the rotation. A 5 inning day from Happ is his max potential... That to me is no good if you have dreams of contending. Stroman is the guy who needs more seasoning. Not sure what else Hutch needs to do in the minors. He already has the stuff and the poise to make the MLB rotation IMO.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hopefully Santana comes in and pitches angryyyy this year. He's definitely going to be super motivated.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I'm astonished this is a 150+ team that most likely is still at about around an 82w team.
BlueJayWay Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Gregor reporting not a done deal, Santana waiting on Orioles for better offer...
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Now if you consider Santana as replacing Johnson this is basically the same team as last year that we were all excited about. ...plus an upgrade at catcher and better def at 2nd.
Caper Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 And why the f*** didn't they qualify JJ if they had this cash? He's at least as good as Santana and there was a very real chance of him netting a 1st round pick. Did you watch that train wreck last year? This is a much better option. JJ wasn't turning down that QO... His agent was basically saying as much.
