sachmo55 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Well, the time frame is silly, because you never know that, but he had a sprained UCL a few years ago (2009). Those typically lead to TJ surgeries, but he held off and fought through it. And he has had flare ups now and again since then, though he hasn't directly missed any regular season time to it, I don't believe. "Santana was examined independently by Dr. James Andrews on Oct. 28 and had MRIs performed on both his elbow and shoulder. Andrews, according to Santana’s agents, said the elbow was “completely healed.” "
fatcowxlive Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 He's deciding between the Jays and O's now according to theScore/SN360
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 He's deciding between the Jays and O's now according to theScore/SN360 Nelly Cruz and Ubaldo Vs Reyes, Bautista and Edwin O's could win
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 JeffPassan Sources: Ervin Santana's team could come down to performance-bonus money. Jays offering none. Orioles could match $14M deal, add incentives. lol
jays4life19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I guess we should have a pretty good idea where he's going to sign by the time the Jays game ends.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 He cares about the offence because he wants dem WINZZ. Jays should have the upper hand there. Honestly, if AA lets Santana get away over a few million in incentives, he should just quit and hand over the reigns to someone who knows what a free agent market is. There is no such thing as a bad 1 year deal.
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I can definitely see this not ending well for us with the way this offseason has been going.
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I really like the idea of adding incentives
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Darvish Bid - We lost Chapman - We lost Ervin Santana - ????
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Darvish Bid - We lost Chapman - We lost Ervin Santana - ???? But we got Hech!
Convo Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Ugh.. if signing Santana to a 1-year means Happ is our #5 then don't the two offset eachother? #HutchPlease
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Yeah, I have a bad feeling about this. The Orioles offer is very close and they have incentives. I'd make it $15M/1yr and see if Santana bites.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 But we got Hech! Hutch doesn't guarantee 180 IP; He still hasn't been established.
theblujay Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Reading comprehension lacking. Lol
Lawrie22 Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 I too would be comfortable with a 15M deal, hell if it's only for one year I wouldn't even care if we gave him 16M
Convo Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Santana gives up a lot of HR... that scares me deeply if he's pitching at RC (39 HR allowed in 2012... the f***?)
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Reading comprehension lacking. What would be the correct expression? Hutchison no garantiza 180 innings; El todavía no se ha establecido en las ligas mayores!!
Convo Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 He flipped over his GB/FB last war. Hopefully that continues. Hopeful thinking doesn't go well with our luck.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Is there anyone else kind of offended by this? Alright, if there's NOOOOOOOOBODY else, I'll sign with this piece of s*** team. Basically treating it like a Walmart or McDonalds job..."I don't really wanna take it...but I have to pay the rent somehow". If no one else will ask me to the prom... I guess I will go with you. Wow. Canadians really do have a pretty serious inferiority complex, don't we? Honestly, if AA lets Santana get away over a few million in incentives, he should just quit and hand over the reigns to someone who knows what a free agent market is. There is no such thing as a bad 1 year deal. Let's give him 75M for 1 year. Pitcher wins... ...and what's wrong with a pitcher wanting more pitching wins?
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 No way I'm killing a Saturday waiting around for this s*** to be sorted out. Another team will swoop in. Always happens.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Santana gives up a lot of HR... that scares me deeply if he's pitching at RC (39 HR allowed in 2012... the f***?) scares me a bit too, but it also scares me that he could sign with Baltimore and have a great year. I can't help but wonder if blocking the orioles from signing him is part of the motivation. I hope he signs at any rate and I've waffled back on forth on Santana.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Lol at the value loss signing Santana @ 1/16 vs. Johnson @ 1/14 and keeping their pick. How valuable is a 2nd round pick?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 It's pretty simple. If he signs with us, he's going to pitch like s*** all year. If he signs with the Orioles, he's going to be a Cy Young contender. Luck of the Jay.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 How valuable is a 2nd round pick? Well considering the fact that this regime has had a buttload of 1st rounders/sandwich picks over the last few years and have yet to develop any MLB regulars, not all that high.

TheBigSmoke.RF Verified Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 bad contract, were still not good enough to contend...
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 How valuable is a 2nd round pick? Last year it got us Hollon, Brentz and Tellez with just that one pick (thanks to how big the slot still is in the second round, and how underslot Hollon signed for), our three most valuable players from the 2013 draft. If we didn't have that pick, we quite literally would not have any of those three players. The two years prior, the 2nd rounder got us Smoral and Norris respectively, but that is a bit of an inaccurate comparison because the 2nd round happened a lot later in those drafts (the full compensation round took place before it back then), so we could have hypothetically had better players than those two with the 2nd round pick in the current draft system. With the new draft cap system, the 2nd rounder is far more valuable than almost anyone on this board gives it credit for.

The inevitable fight for 4th place could be decided by Ervin Santana.
