Odds of Jays signing Tanaka

1.1%. We (supposedly) have the money and the need. But so do five other teams, and many of those teams aren't as averse to long-term deals.

I agree , I think the Jays will go all out if the interest is mutual i think but i have a feeling he will find other teams like the Dodgers and Yankees and Cubs more appealing for history and community reasons and the Mariners only for the purpose of community reasons .

he visited a few cities before returning to japan....Toronto was not one of them...so tanaka to the jays...odds not looking good..

I just have no faith in AA's ability to play in the free agent pitching market. He either doesn't understand that you have to pay a premium, or the valuations he uses are way too low.

The aversion (correct imho) to long term deals will stop us offering biggest contract and his desire to win will mean he signs elsewhere.

I think it all comes down to Rogers. If they feel the marketability of the team has gone down the toilet and they went to re-create last year's hype, Tanaka is pretty much the only way to do it. He would definitely create a media firestorm. So I could see it happening only if it's Rogers idea and they are willing to pay whatever it takes. If it's just AA simply trying to work within whatever the general Rogers framework is, it's practically impossible.
