TRM Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 It will be disappointing if AA didn't attempt to offer something similar or even better than that for Anderson.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Not too upset about this. We need someone with a better health track record anyways. Two Brandon Morrows in the same rotation is like walking on glass every other night.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Interesting. I like what the Rockies did here.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Likely would have been something like Drabek + a low level prospect to acquire Anderson.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 WOOOOO Pomeranz in Oakland!!! I could see Pomeranz getting his career back on track somewhat. Still is only 25 years old.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Now get Hudson, AA. I'm a huge Daniel Hudson fan though he's unlikely to pitch in 2014. Plus I think he stays in Arizona.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Jane Lee @JaneMLB A's also sending cash to Rockies as part of deal. Doesn't seem like the A's got a whole lot for Anderson.
bendera3 Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 A's are also sending cash to the Rockies. Looks like the sodas won't be free this year in Oakland!
bzapple Verified Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 WOOOOO Pomeranz in Oakland!!! His command is Drabek-like though.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Beane back to the road after Jimmy J and his 10 million dollars.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Doesn't seem like the A's got a whole lot for Anderson. I actually think this is a decent deal for both teams. Pomeranz was a big time prospect, but in general appears to be a fly ball pitcher who seems to be stalled in the thin air. He's going to light it up in Oakland imo. Anderson is an extreme ground ball pitcher, with the ability to be an upper rotation pitcher if he can stay healthy. Seems to fill a need for both teams.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 His command is Drabek-like though. drabek walked 6 batters in 43 innings last year in the minors....I'd like to see him get an opportunity next year...but it seems everyone has already given up on the guy..

Not so much given up as being cautious based on his history. I'm sure he'll get his shot.

xposbrad Verified Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 so wait, was AA going to offer Santos for Anderson in the original 3 way trade? lol goes to show you how bad of a GM AA is, when look how little the Rockies gave up.

Did it occur to you that the failed physical may have crippled his value? It's all speculation anyways, but if your going to criticize AA on what you think happened at least use some rational thinking.

I think he deserves one last shot at the rotation, but eventually moves to the pen. Shorter appearances = less time to come undone mentally, can focus on a lesser amount of pitches that he has better success with (FG shows he historically gets hammered using his 4 seamer) fastball would get an uptick in velocity to sit 92-94/93-95, bigger separation from the change, meaning a better change.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 Even if we go out and get two more starters. Drabek, Hutch and any other question marks will get their chance when injuries happen. Which they will happen.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I thought Pomeranz was one of the best pitchers I saw in the PCL last year. Then he came up and looked awful. I think he's still got a chance to be a major league pitcher or at least a really good reliever.
8D Verified Member Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I actually like this deal for the As. It didn't sound like Anderson had much value on the market from all reports, so this deal seems pretty fair with a shot at two decent looking pitchers.
