Where do they get it?, Detroit is one of the poorest cities with poor people

Their owner just DGAF and spends money like a drunken sailor.

Let's not go overboard now. Prince's contract is bad. Pujols' contract? Now that's historically bad. There's a difference.

Alright, some hyperbole on my part. Let's go with top 5 worst contract of alltime.

Scherzer and Prince for Kinsler is about the closest way I can see the tigers getting rid of prince. Does texas even consider?

Yeah but he isn't losing tens of millions a year. Bet you its tv contract money and the tigers tv contract is worth more then the jays

Rogers is making minimum 100 million profit a year

part of the back room deal with the state of Michigan. His wife was allowed to buy the casino in Detroit in exchange for putting out a good (aka expensive) product to help save the city.

I predicted the biggest decline in baseball for Kinsler...I'm betting on replacement level as soon as next year. So I don't have a winner or a loser in this deal. For either team it's just about team success rather than value. Detroit wants a championship. I think they bring back Infante at 3 years $25M and cover their LF/3B options through Castelanos and Infante (not sure which one where).

I actually think this deal will work out better for the RANGERS

Short-term you are probably correct. Daniels may look for a couple of nice years from him and flip him again. Seeing as Kinsler wasn't going to provide positive value and is more than replaceable for them it comes down to them signing Fielder to less than a 7 year $138M contract (assuming the $30M is paid right now it has slightly more value than that). It's still not a good contract but I think they are better offensively right now. If Daniels can convince Prince to DH full time it would be big for them.

If I'm Detroit I'm looking at Toronto and giving up a bit of starting pitching. I'd be looking at getting Bautista.

Its a good deal for Texas, they can afford the contract and Fielder always has upside potential on any given season. Detroit needed to cut future payroll and I'm sure that's part of their thinking. Maybe they are going to sign Scherzer now. I think its clear there just aren't many premium bats out there unless you pay the money. Bautista's value is far more then some think.

Good deal for both teams.

The fat Greek sits and watches

JPR was three times the manager the AA is. All the good players we still have he acquired

The fat Greek has failed us at every turn

I know you are pretty troll, but still. Sure "JPR" had to sign off on the deals, but it was said in an interview by either Ricciardi or AA themselves that AA put the deal together to get Rolen out of town. Not to mention he held onto him for years. Sure there was to Oakland thing, but he got him back as quick as possible and year after year it was AA saying he thinks EE will break out.

JPR never put together a team on paper that was as highly regarded as our team was going into last season. People talk about trading off talent but our farm system is better now than it ever was in those days. Are you saying Reyes, Lawrie, Dickey, Morrow, Delebar, Santos, Rasmus etc... aren't good players? The only players you could be thinking of our Bautista, EE and I guess Casey?

Do you not remember JPR? People talk about AA in free agency, but AA at least has the stones to make some big trades. JP could never pull off a big trade. He didn't pull one off in the 7 years or so he was here. The only time he went after FA was that one offseason and there was no plan. Just paid as many guys as they could to come here in hopes of winning.

AA is fine, the team is still in a good situation and if they fail they are in a good place to trade off their players for good prospects quickly and retool.

Tigers get 40 mil a year for their local deal

Lol for the Michigan market

Rogers values the jays local contact at 10 million for the entire canada market.

The Jays can say whatever they want about the Canadian market but there is no way the local contract is worth 10 million. TSN is paying 40 million a season starting next year to the CFL for 86 games. Rogers shows 162 games a year and the contract is worth 10 mil.....

I think that the Jays contract should be one of the most valuable in the league. Large audience base. One of the league best average buying powers

Like I said what would rogers pay if someone else owned the team

well the CFL outdraws the Jays....so probably 50 or 60 mil.....which isn't too shabby..

2011: 7.3 WAR

2012: 3 WAR

2013: 2.5 WAR

Steamer has him at 3.6 next year.

How is that not providing positive value? His offensive numbers were up last year compared to 2012. He's not done yet.

Do you mean at the gate? The entire league plays less games (144) than one MLB team (162) so maybe the gate is better in dedicated CFL markets (like oh I dunno... Saskatechewan) because you're talking 18 games per market as opposed to the more saturated 162 but just because per game gate is good (in some places) doesn't mean the CFL generates more revenue overall.

At 132 million budget without additions Rogers is putting more than 10 mil TV revenue towards the Jays . I have been a long term bitcher about how much TV money they pay but they have pumped the money in last year and certainly this year and going forward .

no...I was talking specifically to per game tv ratings...which tv contracts are based on. The CFL will show 86 games next yea with the inclusion of Ottawa to the league and Rogers shows 162....so almost double the games....the 40 mil tsn pays for the CFL should translate to basically double the worth for mlb...but jays games have less viewers than the cfl games...and the grey cup draws huge numbers..so that one game counts as 10 games....so the jays contract should probably be valued at 50 to 60 mil....

http://www.cfl.ca/article/cfl-on-tsn-and-rds-a-ratings-winner

As far as merchandising revenue the Riders are third behind the leafs and the habs....but then the riders sell more than half the merchandising revenue in the entire CFL...

creative accounting aside....the jays like I said probably generate 50 to 60 mil for rogers on a local level....not entirely sure what they get from tv revenues from the league...but mofo said it's an additional 25 mil over and above what they currently get.....81 games of revenue from ticket sales..merchandising....The jays are doing fine....a winning team would have the opportunity to drive the local tv revenues the most I would think...

Jays should have done something like this? Dump a bad contract in a Buehrle for a Fielder type? Allows them to trade a Bautista or Encarnacion for a top starter and decent catcher without great loss in power? Buehrle is more like a #4 starter on good team, he's not much as a #2 starter in tough AL East. The 30 million Tigers gave up would lower Fielder's contract to 20 million, Buehrle scheduled to make 18+19 million next 2 years. Not much difference.

Fielder would hit 50+ homers at Rogers. Be primary a DH though.

Pretty sure he meant that kinsler's contact will make it hard for him to produce surplus value over its length. Not that he would be above replacement level...

I can't believe people are watching that filth. What the hell is wrong with people?

Um... 5 years difference...

That's kind of a big deal.

His is quite front loaded. I don't see a huge problem here if he stays healthy.
