GD Old-Timey Member Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Heyman "The Jays remain in contact with the Cubs regarding Samardzija" New dream offseason is two of Shark/Burnett/Jimenez + Drew + one of the Bakers. I don't want to get my hopes up but I really want to.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Will the Cubs be scouting Sanchez tomorrow? Hope not. Hopefully they look at 1 year old scouting reports and don't examine him any more closely.

NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 They have multiple scouts sitting on every game, building up a scouting report archive for The BEST. I wouldn't read into this development.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I get the idea that trying to despair Hoyer and Epstein won't end well. Trying to despair Boras seems to be having an effect though.

Nox Verified Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 How could you not want this guy on the team? http://www.obstructedview.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/03/Jeff+Samardzija+Chicago+Cubs+Photo+Day+pK5_BDqdcrcl.jpg Says the guy who didn't take him for free in the expansion draft.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 The two player/team rule was killer. I thought it created an interesting dynamic.
Nox Verified Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 It did, but obviously as a team drafting I would have preferred access to all unprotected players. Missing out on Cobb hurt. So the $10 shield I spent on Wacha seems to have worked perfectly.
TheBigSmoke.RF Verified Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 I dont think Sanchez for Shark is a good trade for any other team except the bluejays, we are notoriously bad at bringing up players who have had success in the minors and then groom them for the show. We dont have any player on our team right now that is a star that we have home grown. Remember all the potential stars ? Snider, Hinske, Russ Adams. You have to go back to Vernon Wells and Halladay to the last players we brought up that had success even Lawrie isn't living up to his potential. I believe there may be something fundamentally wrong with the Jays bring up and adapt these young players, D'arnaud career was probably saved by the Dickey trade. So for the sake of another ruined talent I trade Sanchez for Shark.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 If we're going to give up Sanchez for Samardzija, I'd rather give up a bit more and get Price (as long as more isn't Stroman).

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 If we're going to give up Sanchez for Samardzija, I'd rather give up a bit more and get Price (as long as more isn't Stroman). You know the Rays are only trading Price if they can get an elite, major league ready position prospect (or a similarly good young MLBer), among some other scraps. Aaron Sanchez probably doesn't interest them very much at all as a centrepiece.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Ya I was going to say it's Machado, Bogaerts, or bust for them. I believe they had a deal in place for Taijuan + at one point, which would have been a steal.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 27, 2014 Posted February 27, 2014 Ya I was going to say it's Machado, Bogaerts, or bust for them. Price for Lawrie (2B) and AJ Jimenez..... Worst trade ever.

So for the sake of another ruined talent I trade Sanchez for Shark. This angle like many others on this forum is somewhat exaggerated and leans too heavily on recent Jays history. At one point we were great at bringing up guys in our system ( 1980s was tremendous ), then we were mediocre, lately not good at all. However, one could argue that just random variance and the pitching injuries of 2012 ( way above norm ) skewed our results. And one might even guess that our draft strategy of picking mainly pitchers further exasperated things. We've rarely finished near the bottom of the league ( last two years was about as bad as it ever got ). JPR seems to have a dubious drafting record, whereas AA is a work in progress that will be clear in a few years ( starting pitchers on numerous teams ). King said we'd have traded both Stroman and Sanchez by now, I knew the chances of that occurring was around 1% tops. Might get a better player at mid season for a top pitching prospect ( eg Sanchez ) and we don't need to make the move unless our team performs better then most expect. So why not see if this Jays team has any chances at all and pick up a strong pitcher second half from a pretender at that time ? To me, Shark is like Rasmus, not enough of a track record of success to feel like a long term big money contract is appropriate. Can you really get to a WS with these guys in your core ? The whole "ruined talent" angle is overdone, make the trade for other reasons not for that one.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 If only they had traded Lind and Gose for Samardzija and Hanigan like you predicted. Wise offer; FatCow would accept it!!
Cooler Heads Prevail Verified Member Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 If only they had traded Lind and Gose for Samardzija and Hanigan like you predicted. If only Vegas would allow you to bet Boston under 81.5 as you recommended yesterday on this site. Seriously dude, you post a lot of stupid stuff on here and I don't give a f*** who you think you are. All I have to so us read anything you post about the Leafs to realize your actual knowledge is far exceeded by your rather inflated opinion of yourself.

They would want more than just Sanchez in the way of talent and that's without an extension. Anyway, you can probably relax, even though both sides keep revisiting a deal, mostly because no extension looks likely, Gose is the rumored prized pig. At least 2 more pieces would move to the Cubs if they ever figured this thing out. That's a big if!

KSaw Verified Member Posted February 28, 2014 Posted February 28, 2014 Probably asking Gose, Tirado and Nay, with a throw in like Drabek as a project. And with AA saying that's far too much and countering with Gose, Tirado and Nolin, while insisting they also take Happ and all his salary. * I mean something like the above-- not necessarily the exact names.
