Steven Souza, of if anyone really wants a scouting report message me and I'll forward. So many team lists? You mean both of them? Not really meaning to be smarmy as you have a valid point, but on the other hand, it's two teams there - right? And the fact that those names are listed aren't really a surprise other than Anthony De on it. I was about to say that I was surprised that Alvarez wasn't but he'd likely not considered a prospect seeing that he had so many starts for them. FLA and NY were calculated risks that aren't looking so hot. If the returning player had performed remotely close to expectations, this list would be a non-issue.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 9, 2013 Author Posted November 9, 2013 Admittedly poorly worded on my part. The players could have been MVP's and all stars...the only result that would have made the trade good was a playoff spot. Which is the issue I had with the trade from day 1
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted November 9, 2013 Posted November 9, 2013 The freakin' franchise would be in very good shape had they stayed the course, on the other hand, the "course" they were following might've been exactly what they did instead of the sustainable model we want. But just imagine, Stroman, Syndergaard, Sanchez, Hutchison, Nicolino, Nolin, Descaflani, Marisnick, Jimenez and Burns all starting next year at AAA or AA. D'Arnaud, Gose, Alvarez, Lawrie at the MLB level. And this doesn't include the guys traded for Happ. AA wouldn't look so moronic, but I guess he showed his true self last off season, at least we know who he really is now.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Cubs are f***ing stacked right now, considering I think they will make a few more deals they could add some young pitchers and really be set up well. Theo's done well with his start
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I still think they should have drafted Gray over Bryant. Gray looks like he's going to be a front line starter, and that's something they really lack in the system, while they have Baez, Olt, and potentially Villanueva who could all slot in at third base, and Soler in right field. Imagine if they had taken Gray, then next draft they have a choice between Hoffman or Kolek at number 2. Go big on Masahiro Tanaka, and all of a sudden you have a dangerous, young, top 3 in the rotation, not even counting Edwards or Vizciano.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 Hey Kev can you send me the reports please, thanks. Keep reminding me if I don't.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 16, 2013 Author Posted November 16, 2013 I'm still taking the Twins system over the Cubs, but the Cubbies are probably #2. Upside it's the Twins for sure. But they have too many that are too far away for me. It's really really good but a lot could go wrong for them still. I look at Pinto sitting in the back part of the top 10 for them (or outside of it) and I think how he'd be top 3 in most orgs. Similar enough Arodys would be top 3 in many still as well.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 16, 2013 Posted November 16, 2013 I'll take the Astros simply because of Luhnow. The guy just knows how to build teams (look at most of the Cardinals good young players) and he's going to add Rodon at the draft to an already impressive group in Houston. Rodon and Appel give him a 1/2 punch at the top of their rotation as soon as 2015, with Correa and Springer serving as two premium position players. Too bad they didn't win with their bid on Abreu, but apparently they are considering making a run at Tanaka, which would be even better. Rodon Appel *Tanaka* McCullers Foltynewicz Deshields CF Correa SS Castro C Singleton 1B Springer RF Altuve 2B
ace3113 Verified Member Posted November 17, 2013 Posted November 17, 2013 Decent core, can also pencil Dominguez at 3B. Villar could also be trade bait or be the backup infielder. I also really like Rio Ruiz and Vincent Velasquez, two guys I was championing hard in their draft years. Max Stassi is also a solid prospect. If I have one complaint it's that they picked really conservatively in 2013 after Appel. They probably thought he would ask for more than slot, though he eventually signed for 1.45mm below. I liked Thurman in round 2 but they could have done much better than Kent Emmanuel in the 3rd, or gone for higher upside with their late overslot guys than Devonte German or Chase McDonald, but I'll give Lunhow the benefit of the doubt on his choices.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Got a few minutes so I decided to compare Minny and the Cubs. The big one Buxton vs. Baez. Not even close for me. Buxton is Trout lite at this point. Baez has unreal power but he's got a lot of issues he'll have to work out. The line drive rate and K's are his biggest concerns. He'll need to hit 40 to keep the average up and he's not going to walk enough to support a .220. Huge Edge Buxton The 3B's Sano vs. Bryant Everything I just wrote about Baez, applies to Sano. Except he might be able to walk enough to carry a low average. I've said since early last year that Bryant will be the best bat from that draft. He K'd at a pretty high rate in his debut but I think he'll work on that. His bat control is too good for that. The top 2 pitchers. Bryant but by much less than Buxton over Baez. Stewart & Meyer vs. Edwards & Johnson For me this is a kid with great stuff and Meyer who has shoulder issues vs. the two best unknown pitching prospects in all of the minors. Heading to AA Edwards (as will Johnson be) has one issue. His stamina keeps his velocity down later in the game. If that develops I'm predicting he's an ace. A righty that lefties can't touch, works his ass off when working at his game Have to leave now....to be continued later.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 17, 2013 Author Posted November 17, 2013 Bryant over Sano? No way. Sano = Pedro Alvarez for me. Bryant will be a monster this year.

Nox Verified Member Posted November 18, 2013 Posted November 18, 2013 Sano is 14 months younger and played in a full level higher than Bryant touched last year. That's very significant at their respective ages.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted November 22, 2013 Author Posted November 22, 2013 Sano is 14 months younger and played in a full level higher than Bryant touched last year. That's very significant at their respective ages. Did they ever confirm Sano's real age? I don't think they ever did. The power is legit and if he can find a position where he doesn't kill the team, he might end up much more Stanton than I think (not to mention that being Pedro Alvarez isn't the worst thing a prospect could end up). 80 power is 100% legit. I think I watched him in 3 games last year and he kept watching strike three so it was tough for me to judge him. I really struggle to get behind prospects who aren't improving an already bad K-rate. If Bryant doesn't improve next season I'll probably jump off that bandwagon too
TheHurl Site Manager Posted December 2, 2013 Author Posted December 2, 2013 Love seeing UB Catcher Tom Murphy on the Rockies list. He's going to swing and miss a bunch but he'll draw a walk and can catch.
