I’m no doctor but you can’t tell me all of these guys are so injured or all in Florida re-habbing that they can’t stay for the final weekend of the season.” Empty lockers on the final weekend included Edwin Encarnacion (who had wrist surgery), Jose Bautista (currently treating his hip in Dunedin by jogging underwater), Melky Cabrera (knee, back surgery), Brett Cecil (elbow), Maicer Izturis (ankle), Josh Johnson (forearm), Brandon Morrow (forearm) and Colby Rasmus (hit in the eye last week at Fenway Park), My bet who it was - Derosa or Buehrle
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 The word "grinders" makes me think of Lawrie.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 JPA being a douche? Possibly. Cause he was grinding through his "injury".
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Probably derosa. I don't blame him if everyone basically said f*** it and just dipped the last weekend of the season
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 Hmm I thought Dickey hit the DL this year but nope, I guess he just grinded through that back injury? Could have been him. Dickey, DeRosa and Buehrle seem well-spoken

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Dickey trashed JJ and Morrow for their injuries earlier this year, and is close with the media. It was Dickey. What mean "grinders"?
HERPDERP Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Author Posted October 3, 2013 You're cuban, you will never understand
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 You're cuban, you will never understand Explain me the "grinders" concept. Cabron, help me to improve my English.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 It's Derosa. He used the word grinder to describe himself in an article. http://www.thestar.com/sports/bluejays/2013/03/22/blue_jays_bench_mark_derosas_tips_for_building_a_contender.html "I consider myself somewhat of a grinder, someone who had to work to get up here and has had to work to stay."
ReturnOfTheYeti Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Explain me the "grinders" concept. Cabron, help me to improve my English. A grinder is someone who always keeps on working - won't stop or give up. He grinds the workouts, puts in extra hours, extra bp etc...
JugglingPitches Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 On second thought, it probably wasn't Lawrie because there was no #grindddeeerrrrzzz #getmegooooooiiinnnn in the article.
Candy Maldonado Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 He said grinding not grinder. I provided an example of Derosa saying grinder. Plus "I'm no doctor" is not proper English. There's no way Dickey would speak like that. Some quotes from him this year. Grinder is definitely one of his words. May 20: "But you've just got to keep grinding it out. I've felt like I've been stuck in a quagmire for the last week, two weeks. So it's nice to feel like you've got at least one foot out of it." May 25: “Just keep grinding it out,” Dickey said of his mindset. “It’ll turn.” May 30: "This game's tough. It's hard. And you can't quit grinding it out, and you can't quit searching for the answers. I certainly won't. And I'll find it. I'll find it." June 5: "It's not often in a situation like that you can say you've walked a mile in another's shoes," he said. "But there's a lot I shared with him, grinding it out, getting back to the big leagues. The feeling is, an opportunity that's wasted." June 22: "But it's going to take me a little while to unlearn some bad habits, and hopefully it won't take me too long. But [i'll] keep grinding it out, and it'll turn for me as far as the mechanics go." August 21: " The good news is that it feels like a fluke to me, meaning that the expectations are that it will change. But you have to keep grinding it out, punching the clock and showing up."
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 This player must be dumber than a sack of s***, it's rather obvious that key players were shut down early to avoid unnecessary winning. It pays to tank in this CBA. If you aren't going to make the playoffs, it behooves you to be as bad as possible to get a larger signing pool and a higher pick.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Like it or not, some sense of comradery is beneficial within a clubhouse. Vetrin presents isn't everything, but I do think many on this board undervalue the effect that it can have. Having your teammates dip out in the last few weeks of the season surely doesn't leave a good taste in the mouths of everyone else who stuck through. Now its different if these guys were instructed to leave to do rehab elsewhere, but I highly doubt they ALL were.
Laika Community Moderator Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 seriously though, who geefs a fawk?
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Im thinking it could be Buehrle. Or could be that asshat JPA.
over500 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Bobby Tallet was pretty good at grinding it out. He was a battler.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Bobby Tallet was pretty good at grinding it out. He was a battler. Bernice Tallet pitched 50% or 100%, would have been a good fit. It wasn't Dickey. Had to be JPA. Maybe it was Goins, cool plot twist. That moment when it's Kawasaki.
Frenchsoup Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 Another guy who wasn't there till the end was Rajai with his wife haveing a baby. Also I'm pretty sure it was JPA, he"ll do anything to try and get people on his side. There was also the comment he made when the Dirk and Zaun saga happened, was somethiing like those guys aren't ever around the team. Which he was referring to being at batting practice and in the clubhouse, which seems very similar.
guylaroche5 Verified Member Posted October 3, 2013 Posted October 3, 2013 putting my money on derosa, definitely wasn't dickey. maybe buehrle i guess
baubau Verified Member Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Couldn't it be possible that after spending the whole season with the team a lot of the guys picked up on the words used by other players. I.e. JPA picking up Derosa using the word 'grinder'. I can't see it being Derosa or Dickey. Neither seem like the type to hide comments. My money is on either MB or JPA. To conclude, go Rays and As.
BlueJays20xx Verified Member Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 lol, so the clubhouse still have problems. Shea Hillenbrand, Gregg Zaun, John Gibbons, Ted Lilly, JPA, Omar Vizquel, etc... Can we get this fixed up already? Maybe Joe Maddon can put a lid on the current players, this has been going on far too long already. It'll be hilarious if it was JPA though!
baseballsss Verified Member Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Dickey makes sense though because he already was complaining to the media about our team being a bunch of pussies and only playing when they are 100% back in the middle of the season ish post the link where he says this.
baseballsss Verified Member Posted October 4, 2013 Posted October 4, 2013 Dickey trashed JJ and Morrow for their injuries earlier this year, and is close with the media. It was Dickey. also post the link where this happened.

So if it means these guys are wherever they are rehabbing and not with the Jays on the final weekend then great.
