DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Doesn't impact the Jays too much, outside of ruling out real grass in the near future. Terrible news for Argo fans though. They need, and deserve, a downtown CFL only stadium.

Caper Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 This is awful... f*** I hate the Argo's.
Buster Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 This is awful... f*** I hate the Argo's. CFL has been vastly more entertaining that the tripe the blue jays have trotted out this year. And this coming from a Jays fan.
TBJ12 Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Is there a reason why the Jays and Argos couldn't play on a natural grass field inside the RC?
CHRIS Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 I am firmly in favour of natural grass. It's softer, causes fewer injuries, and let's face it folks, it's prettier on TV.

I don't think there's anyone who isn't in favour of it. It's just a question of when it's coming.....or if.

They need, and deserve, a downtown CFL only stadium. It would be nice, though not sure where they'd be able to build one. They won't ever play at BMO field since it wouldn't hold the CFL dimensions, and the Varsity Stadium at UofT has too small of a capacity and it isn't the easiest to get to by car and parking would be a mess around UofT.

I should not make more then a professional athlete... hell, there are fast food workers making more then a lot of CFL guys.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 They'd have to resod everytime because of the dimensions, and the field would fall apart, than there's the entire drainage issue. They'd be throwing away millions every year. I wonder if they could build some sort of raised platform they could place a few inches above the grass, and put the turf on that when the Argos play? Football games are spread out enough it's not like they'd be making the transition continuously.
Caper Verified Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 The Argo's can't die soon enough. No NFL in TO..... why?.. The Argo's....... s***** turf keeping players from coming to the Jays.... the Argo's.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Why don't the Argos just play at BMO field?

Alterations can be done. It's a disgrace to continue using the stupid turf.

oakville69 Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I find the lease issue to be strange. I thought Rogers wanted the Jays to play on grass ASAP. They must be aware of the damage to Jays players that get hurt on turf.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 Per multiple sources Don't like this re grass Will move thread to OT once it cools off I can't find anything supporting this. What sources? http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Toronto/2013/07/26/21003766.html Everything I find talks about them moving out?
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 WTF? I heard on the fan earlier this morning there is a rumor out that the MLSE is interested in buying the Argos. Isn't that good news for getting grass at the RC sooner than later? http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Football/CFL/Toronto/2013/09/03/21095246.html

flafson Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 I still don't understand the argument of injuries on turf, football is a much more physical game than baseball and i don't see them complain about the turf. If the turf is not soft enough then what's the problems with making 2 layers of turfs (or something similar) that will make it as soft as grass? And to be honest, football games are more enjoyable to go to than baseball IMO.
SAAviour Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 In a s***** s***** season, this might be the worst news of all. Playing on this turf is bush league.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 What Football teams play on turf outside of the Argos? In the NFL, lots of teams play on turf: both NY teams, Atlanta, Buffalo, Dallas, New Orleans, etc. I dunno f*** all about the CFL because it sucks, but according to this website, every stadium uses artificial turf.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted September 5, 2013 Author Posted September 5, 2013 I wonder what Rob Ford had to say at the Argos game on Tuesday? Mmmm. Not much I guess. Just looks drunk, stoned, and happy to be surrounded by hot young women.

Ricky Ray although hurt...when he gets back is a great player to watch. It's a shame some of you won't watch the Argos which is filled with some entertaining players. The biggest thing holding getting grass isn't the argos...it's the stadium. The logistics of getting grass into a dome given where it is situated is not easy.
flafson Verified Member Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 What Football teams play on turf outside of the Argos? Most of them do actually. IMO CFL is a lot more exciting than NFL and the Argos got a lot better in the last couple of years, they are actually fun to watch most of the time.
