Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 In OF search, Rangers have looked at Stanton, Bautista, Encarnacion As colleague Jon Heyman wrote Friday morning, the Rangers are looking everywhere to try to find a right-handed hitting outfielder, not surprising given the concern that Nelson Cruz could face a Biogenesis drug suspension. So it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that the Rangers have continued to ask the Marlins about Giancarlo Stanton, even though the Marlins continue to tell them he isn't available. The Rangers went so far as to make a four-player offer for Stanton, according to one source, who said the offer was strong enough that the Marlins front office considered it worth pursuing. Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria, the source said, quickly put an end to any talk of a Stanton trade. But the Rangers continue to think big, recently sending a scout to watch Edwin Encarnacion and Jose Bautista of the Blue Jays. A deal for either of the two Toronto sluggers was described as unlikely, but the interest shows the level of player the Rangers are looking for. The Blue Jays haven't given any indication they would consider moving either Encarnacion or Bautista. As Heyman wrote, the Rangers have discussed the possibility of bringing back Michael Young, but they say they're more focused on obtaining an outfielder right now. Alex Rios, Hunter Pence, Marlon Byrd and Chris Denorfia are other players thought to be on the Rangers' lengthy list of possible targets.

Stanton's not going to get traded now lol AA's not selling either.... what an idiot.

There is a bit of a difference between being a seller and selling off on of your two best bats. You can disagree with the direction if you want, but its a little much calling him an idiot for not trading EE of Joey.

Two productive guys in their prime, on team-friendly contracts. At least 2 top prospects and another solid prospect if not 2. Won't happen, but this is what I'd be asking for at this point. Jorge Alfaro © + Rougned Odor (2B) + Nick Williams (OF)

His age is going up, and his production will be going down. It's stupid to not cash in now, unless of course he wants to keep him until his contract is done. It's all value that's going to go down the drain, if AA somehow makes some unbelievable deals and trades and we are buffed up for 2014, then I wouldn't mind. Yeah, I meant to say Bautista, keep Edwin for now.
jayswin11 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Keep EE, but if we can get Profar and some more for Bautista you got to do it. Give them Oliver too.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I'd take Profar, Alfaro and Payano. Profar has to be in the deal
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Unless the Jays get Profar + for one of those bats, then EE and Bautista are staying put.
FireAlexAnthopoulos Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Not trading Bautista will make him an idiot. If there ever was a time to trade Bautista, it is now. Being a starter in the all star game is great optics and will get the blue jays some great returns on a Bautista trade. He is at his highest possible value, there is nowhere to go but down. TRADE HIM. Seriously. And Bautista's reputation right now gives AA leverage to get a kickass return (i.e. Profar) despite his declining numbers. But AA, being a moron, will hold on to him for way too long and we'll be stuck with him when he's a washed-up scrub.
GNick Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I think Profar is over rated. Another Brett Lawrie or Brandon Wood.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I think Profar is over rated. Another Brett Lawrie or Brandon Wood. Possibly well could be, though he's still very young and I haven't been pleased with the way the Rangers have been using him. If he's up in the Majors, he should be playing everyday, plain and simple. He shouldn't be flipped around the diamond as much as he has been.

Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Author Posted July 26, 2013 I think Profar is over rated. Another Brett Lawrie or Brandon Wood. and your reason for that thinking is??? Major league talent at 19 years old. He need to play everyday.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Bautista for Profar + a pitching prospect.... f*** yes Profar will have more WAR value than Bautista by 2015 if not 2014
GNick Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 and your reason for that thinking is??? Similar to them he doesn't have the minor league numbers equal to the hype he's getting. He's .276 hitter in minors, over 1500 PA, fairly large sample size.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 If you're in for a penny you might as well go in for a pound. Bautista and one for JJ, MB or Dickey for Profar and Perez +++ In order to deem this as a retooling, the Jays would need to get back MLB-ready players right now. Or if AA really knows how to pull strings...don't flame me too much on this one....Bautista and one of those starters for Darvish and Profar. My thinking is there's no way AA deals away his top star with the current way this team is constructed unless he can get a legit star back in return.

You have to remember the Rangers are looking to contend, not retool.
admin Site Manager Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 AA traded Dickey for Synd and TDA. Who knows what he'll do anymore. AA has always liked Young. I could see a deal where Texas reacquires Young, and sends him here as the main piece.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Rangers are not trading Darvish, especially after going out to acquire Garza for the rotation. They will use their prospects to acquire a bat and Profar may be available. If so it would be the perfect scenario for AA to deal Bautista and still sell the idea that this team is planning to contend next season with one of the most hyped prospects coming into the 2013 season. At the end of the day, I just hope AA can get some sort of deal done before the deadline with regards to JJ, Buehrle, anybody in the pen, or a Bautista for Profar (although very unlikely).

I'm looking at it from AA's perspective of trading the team's perceived top star for prospects...not going to happen. But if you sell it as a significant upgrade at OF/DH and as not too much of a downgrade by giving up one of those three SP for Darvish, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility. Actually let me put it this way...I think there's a greater chance that the Rangers would bite at giving up Darvish than AA would bite at giving up Bautista for nothing but prospects. If the chance of the Rangers giving up Darvish is 0.001% then AA giving up Bautista for something other than a hyped current MLB star is 0.0001%.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Looks like AA is set to go into next year with much the same team and is not making any changes . Trading either would pretty much mean a rebuild so if you trade one then gut the frigging thing and do a total rebuild . nobody from Rogers on down wants to do that now . It will be interesting what AA does this offseason . I would not be surpried if not much happens and we go into 2014 with much the same team minus the free agents .

If AA can't at the very least address 2B and another solid SP, this team has no chance. If he is willing to admit the disaster that is JPA then things start to look even better. They won't sell tickets if nothing is done. AA will try to address the needs by either hitting the FA market or trading away more of the farm. It's either that or a rebuild and we know that isn't going to happen.
IronLadle Verified Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I wish I knew what the Rangers were offering, Profar seems like the only option.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Bautista for Profar is not really a rebuild..... its the kind of smart baseball move the Rays would make to continue to contend into the future. Get Profar and sign McCann, you save money, get younger, and the on field product is better
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Am I the only one who thinks there's very little chance McCann leaves Atlanta? Evan Gattis has less than 300 major league innings at C, and the Braves aren't really in the habit of letting their stars walk. Who was the last long-time Brave to leave via free agency? Who are the available catchers this winter? Probably won't matter since it seems unlikely the catching position is addressed.
