Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 If AA doesn't move Oliver I will be lost for words. I can understand him wanting to keep Janssen since he is under contract for next season and isn't that expensive. Oliver on the other hand is going to retire after this season probably, so why not just get anything for him and save a couple bucks along the way?
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I was lost for words when he didn't trade Oliver last deadline. Vet lefty with WS experience, a cheap option, and sub-2.5 ERA? Better keep him and trade for Brandon lyon to bolster the pen in a lost year. Yeah I think most were surprised by that. What's different this year is that Oliver has an expiring contract though, so this really should be a no brainer at this point.

Because we're clearly going to roll with a 10-man bullpen next year once everyone's healthy.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 You mean Dickey... who's going to be what? 40 next year? Johnson? He's gone anyways. Bautista's another year older and declining... Melky? Maybe if he starts taking roids again? Beeston and the fans love old players. Let's keep them until they all retire, then the Jays can throw a big f***ing retirement party.
GeorgiaPeach Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Man, AA needs to move Janssen ASAP. With the market the way it is he would get a solid return. Oliver needs to go as well. But everyone including most on this forum loves the automaticness Janssen brings to the back end of the 'pen
wardhenke1 Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 This team will not win next year as currently constituted. There are simply too many holes in too many positions and the starting pitching is a disgrace. The one thing, and I do mean the one thing, that kept us going was the bullpen and now they are starting to collapse. Why can't the geniuses running this organization come to the blindingly obvious conclusion that we as fans have already arrived at? Three simple steps. Pull pin, throw grenade and take cover.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 But everyone including most on this forum loves the automaticness Janssen brings to the back end of the 'pen Quite a few here would love to see Janssen moved. A contender would trade something decent for him right now if he had an expiring contract, but that $4M option for 2014 makes him a valuable commodity. AA probably holds onto him anyways, so it makes no difference I guess.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Do it AA! Heck, I would put the entire pen on the market and see what can be had.
billjc33 Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Relievers under contract next year: 1.Janssen 2.Delebar 3.Cecil 4.Loup 5.Wagner 6.Perez 7.Lincoln 8.Santos 9.Mcgowen 10.Rogers With Stilson, Stroman, Carrano and possibly Farina being MLB ready or depth ready and a UFA market full of 6/7 bullpen guys how do you not move at least 2 of these guys and get some catching 2nd and 3rd depth in the high A-AA range. Braves would like to add a reliever would they consider moving AA catcher Christian Bethancourt for the likes of Janssen? St Louis is looking to add one more arm to their bullpen and Carpenter butting up insane numbers at 2nd and proving last year wasn't a fluke what would it take to pry Kolten Wong from them? Janssen or Delebar and maybe a piece like Christian Lopez/Nolin
billjc33 Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 As well looks like Ricky might be taking the Cecil route to lefty bullpen guy if he can make it through the winter.
Arkadium Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 As well looks like Ricky might be taking the Cecil route to lefty bullpen guy if he can make it through the winter. Please stop this. Just because he sucks as a starter doesn't in any way make him a bullpen option. We've seen what Ricky can do on a short leash, and it's not good.
theblujay Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 If AA seriously doesn't sell relievers at their highest value (mid-season when they're over performing) then I don't think he has any idea at all what he doing.
Slot Machine Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 You'd think Oliver at least would want to go someplace else.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 This team can still make the playoffs! -AA
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Mike Timlin and Paul Spoljaric for Jose Cruz Would be nice to see something like this happen again.
Caper Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Do it AA! I would be so happy Heck, I would put the entire pen on the market and see what can be had. Not Delabar. We can't let him go anywhere else and let the velocity program out of the bag more then it already is.
Buster Verified Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Where? Where? Where? Where? Where? Where? I can only assume by "there" he means Miami and New York?

I'd be trading Delebar. The assumption seems to be Janssen will fetch more value but I have my doubts. Remember, Brandon League got them Morrow which was a pretty good trade until Morrow got hurt. Delebar has great stats right now this might be the very best time to move him.
eastcoastjaysfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Just trade the entire f***ing bullpen. It's the BULLPEN FFS. We have so many mediocre starting pitching prospects coming up, it can be restocked without problem. How can someone be this f***ing stupid. What's the plan? Keep Casey and extend him 3-4 years next year? He's been a stud for three straight seasons and is racking up dem savez. He'll be looking for at least 7-8M a year.

We don't need "clutch" relievers right now. This is an atrocious team with no farm system. The prospects we'd be getting are more valuable than a "clutch" reliever.

The reason you move Janssen is because he only has one year left on the contract and will be paid $4M next year. Delabar is under team control until 2018 and makes minimal salary right now. You move Janssen first because its the smart move.

We have plenty of time to move Delabar.

Do you want to wait until him becomes into a s***? Relievers are volatile. Delabar is pitching very well now, you should trade him now ... The next year he might be a worthless piece of s***.

That being said, you don't see Janssen as more of a priority to move? Janssen will be in his final season next year earning $4M looking for a substantial raise. Delabar makes virtually nothing and is under control until 2018. It's fine to cash in on Delabar now if the return is significant, but Janssen is the priority.

Janssen for Alen Hanson could be great.
