Technically he would be right.

When Drabek was first promoted to the majors, Buck ignored all his stats and focused on wins. Drabek had a winning record so Buck said that's all that really matters, whether a pitcher wins or not. He was so right about this. Drabek is such a winner.

Sitting in the 10 spot with 11 games left with 18.5 games back.

There are three teams 1 game ahead of us at 17.5 games back, but three teams within 2 game back of us at 19.5-20.5 games back.

SD, NYM, COL win, SF loses and Seattle is currently tied! Let's go Ms! (not that we can catch them at this point)

We are now tied with the Mets and Phillies

How is draft order determined when two teams are tied at the end of the season?? Obviously that must happen all the time.

Huh, Amphetamines are PED's?

I can see it being something of a double-edged sword with that class of drug, I'd imagine that Results May Vary is the order of the day there.

Kinda like alcohol was back in Babe Ruth's day, plus correct me if I'm wrong people I don't care enough to search to be certain, but I'm pretty sure they had "pep-pills" back in the 1920's, which would have of course been amphetamines/similar compunds. The more things change the more they stay the same.

Ill say it, Johnson was just terribly unlucky. Your dumn.

I'm on the fence on that one, to me it's a little from column A, and a little from column B.

He was extremely unlucky in the sense that many many many seeing-eye singles and dribblers were hit off him this season going by my personal Eye-Test, (I know, but still we all do it), and the opposition had a tendency to bunch together their baserunners against him, (cause, or effect?) resulting in the lighting up of the Pythagorean, with juuuust over a .350 BABIP against.

He was also quite s***** judging, again, by my personal Eye-Test, leaving waaaaaay too many 91 mph 4-seamsers over the heart of the plate with zero movement that were capitalized on by hitters who will most of the time, this being The Majors.

The miserable, pessimist **** who rents considerable office space within my brain is yelling at me that he's going to continue to bust if we hold onto him, and conversely regain enough form to once again become a soft ace or very good #2 if he walks. Emilio Bonifacio isn't helping matters on this front. =/

He got caught taking adderall as a stimulant. Perhaps it helped his game but it isn't a typical PED.

It helps you focus/concentrate. It's similar to the street drug Speed, another member of the amphetamine class of drugs, just like Ritalin. Hence why meth heads with stay up for 6 days straight, taking apart and putting complex electronics back together, it focuses you on a particular task at-hand, like hitting a fastball. The fact they also increase strength is just a bonus for baseball, I would imagine that the biggest advantage is that it helps you recognize a pitch faster by focusing your vision/concentration and improving reaction time. It also lights up the reward pathways in the brain for achievement, ironically enough. This is all what I've been told by a friend, haven't researched it personally but he usually knows what's he's talking about on matters such as this. Ahem. High-functioning pharmacopeia, that guy.

Some college students and people operating heavy equipment use them when studying/working and they need to be alert and focused. I bet it would work wonders when studying for a prestigious math degree from a campus that is highly regarded within that particular discipline, for instance. =D

So yes, ties are decided by previous years standings. That is VERY important here, and thankfully both the Phillies and Mets (thank you R A Dickey!!! LOL) had better records than the Jays in 2012. As of now we are 9th in draft order but it's a 3 way tie, and there's only one team (Colorado) that we could realistically drop below before the season is over.

And dammit if we do have a protected pick AA had better take advantage of it. McCann or Kuroda maybe? It would be great if we signed Ruiz and despite having same record as Phillies they don't get our first round pick thanks to the previous season. (Though they probably don't qualify him anyway).

Also I like the irony of Dickey's ridiculous 2012 season protecting us from the terrible Mets in a tie breaker.

How about the fact that we traded for Dickey to put us over the top and we are battling the Mets for a worst record. TdA and Syndergaard could have done that!

Laugh/Cry

Yep. It's pathetic.

A protected pick would be huge. Nothing but pride left to play for but with AAA Bisons taking the field every day Anthopoulos is doing a good job ensuring a poor finish. This team needs all the help it can get, a top pick and the ability to sign top FA's without losing it is a win-win for the organization. AA/Rogers couldn't use the pick as an excuse not to spend is an added bonus as well.

It was a bad trade but, without Dickey this team would be a lot worse off. He didn't perform like 2013 but he had a decent year and battled through injuries. Over 200IP, again, and he seems to have made some adjustments as of late. Hasn't had an ERA- (supposed to be a better indicator of future success that DIP stats for KB'ers) this bad since he was with the Twins though.

10. New York M .455

11. Toronto (Comp)

Top 10 again baby! A few losses shy of Milwaukee and Colorado as well for 7 or 8.

Something that I am unsure of: If we sign a player that requires draft pick compensation and we are in the top 10, do we lose that comp pick from Bickford or our 2nd rounder?

We would lose the second round pick only

Any links to support this?

Can find later. I read about it earlier in the season when I wondered about the Bickford pick.

Twins officially moved out of our reach with their loss today. Jays potential range is now 6-15 (pending the result of the Angels-D-Backs game)

The M's are only one loss away from moving out of our reach, but the Brew Crew is within realistic striking distance (albeit with some good (bad) luck). Any three losses by the Brew's and we can't catch them.
