connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) Ah I just saw the Simmons rumors. I was thinking it would take FVV and some 2nds or something I wouldn’t take Simmons as part of any major trade, where premium pieces need to be exchanged Edited February 7, 2023 by connorp
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Yeah I don't think the Raptors should completely blow it up and suck for 5 years. Those days weren't fun. Masai has done a good job keeping this team competitive and not awful even during this retool. Hope they can still be competitive and add when they need to. I thought the Raps could have been a middle of the pack team in the East this season, though injuries, some inconsistencies, lack of bench depth have hurt them this season.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 (edited) There are some bizarre (IMO) rumours about FVV to Orlando for Suggs floating around. I think that would be great. https://clutchpoints.com/nba-rumors-magics-fred-vanvleet-trade-interest-gets-intriguing-jalen-suggs-twist Someone said FVV for Suggs and Isaac or FVV for Suggs, Mo Bamba, Ross would also work. Doesn't make sense to me - but I think that would be a great return for an aging and inefficient FVV. Edited February 7, 2023 by Brownie19

Raptors are 25-30, +0.6 per game point differential and are heading into the part of their schedule where they could win 8 of their next 10 games. They are a middle of a pack team that has had terrible luck closing out close games. People are acting like this team is s***. It isn't.

Doesn't make sense to me - but I think that would be a great return for an aging and inefficient FVV. Don’t think the Magic move Isaac unless they think he’ll be limited minutes wise going forward. He has best defender in the NBA potential with a pretty refined offensive game for a defense-carrying player. Bamba would be interesting based on physical tools but he’s kind of squandered his chances in Orlando who are awful which is a big red flag.

But yeah closing out games, injuries and a weak bench have hurt them. Hope they can turn it around. Even if they make the Playoffs, they likely have a first round exit.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Lebron just passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he's damn good tonight.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Lebron just passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he's damn good tonight. Congrats. It's been pretty incredible to follow his career.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 I used to be a Lebron fanboy but not really anymore as he’s a bit too outspoken for me. I can still appreciate him though. Still incredible to see, like Brady. I mean Jordan wasn’t terrible at this age, even a bit underrated maybe, but this is a whole different level.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2023 Posted February 8, 2023 Lebron just passed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, he's damn good tonight. Him putting up a big game while the team loses to a team they need to beat if they have any hopes of playoffs is peak 2022-2023 Lakers.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 When's the deadline, tomorrow? Why are the Raptors dangling OG? Sorry, I'm as casual fan as it gets, but I like hearing you guys opine on my lack of knowledge, like, isn't OG young and excellent defensively, with more growth potential?
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 When's the deadline, tomorrow? 3pm EST
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 3pm EST I edit my post, how about the rest, and thanks?

jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Yeah OG and Barnes seem to be the same type of player. Also, heard rumours OG isn't happy hear but not sure the truth to that.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I think it's because OG and Scottie Barnes are somewhat redundant I'm personally a little frustrated with OG. Sky is the limit but can't seem to put it together consistently. And he's frequently out with some nagging injury too. Would love to see him blossom here but I worry it'll never happen. If you can get a kings ransom, you really consider it.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Damn. Big moves today. Just seeing
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Poeltl is a nice fit. Now get us a PG coming off the bench and we should be in really good shape!
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Yeah OG and Barnes seem to be the same type of player. Also, heard rumours OG isn't happy hear but not sure the truth to that. Sorry, but I disagree. Barnes is more redundant with Siakam and Precious IMO. OG is a 3 and D guy. Barnes is more of a paint guy who handles the ball more. OG is statistically one of the worst finishers in the NBA and I believe his 3 pt% when he's not in the corner is pretty bad. I think OG wants more opportunity even though the results suggest he has limitations and that's creating some friction. I guess we'll see what happens. Looks like we're buying - not selling and will just try to re-up FVV, GTJ, etc. and stay on this treadmill for another year? This FO knows what they are doing, so I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Has anyone seen a report on what the protection is on this 1st rounder we gave up for Poeltl? It's has to be Top 15 or Top 20 protected right?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 All eyes will be on a Simmons deal now. Really the biggest part of any deal with him is that a team is willing to take on the albatross and danger of the contract, and it seems Tor is.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Nets are 32-22 and trading all their stars. Crazy.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Glad to see Poeltl back with the Raps. Always liked him and he's having a great season! Looks like the Raps might not selloff after all, but we'll see. Hope they can add some more depth. Right now they sit in 10th place for the Play-In.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I like the direction the Raptors are going. I guess they see what I see. A reasonably easy schedule and not a lot of traffic between them and 6th place.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 OK. So no fire sale... Let's see how this plays out for the remainder of the season. They'll probably make the play-in and get bounced pretty early though. But they must like the pieces they have and think it's the foundation of a championship team. Will be an interesting off-season.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Nets are 32-22 and trading all their stars. Crazy. I don't think this was a choice made by the FO. The players forced their hands. I'm happy, I have some Nets under season win totals and missed playoff bets that were looking real good for the first month of the season, real bad a couple months ago and now real good again. Heat, Raptors, Knicks and Hawks all have a chance to overtake the Nets now. Hopefully the Bulls can step it up in the play-in. Honestly, the Nets didn't do SO bad given their situation. Compiled a bunch of middling guys and draft picks while doing a reset. They might keep Simmons now. Who knows maybe this mish-mash of okay players actually clicks and they still make the playoffs.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 I like the direction the Raptors are going. I guess they see what I see. A reasonably easy schedule and not a lot of traffic between them and 6th place. Apparently the 1st round going to SA is only Top 6 protected, so they better f***ing like their chances of climbing up to 6th - otherwise this is a disaster. Can't give up a Top 10 pick for Peoltl.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Nets are 32-22 and trading all their stars. Crazy. Truly one of the most stunning super team failures of all time. They definitely formed the greatest offensive super team of all time with Durant, Irving, and Harden. It was too much for most people, including myself. But they only play 16 games total with all 3 on the court. All 3 end up being traded off with little team success
