G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It's basically where they are putting some of their tv money. Think they can hang on to Price too???
Caper Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Geeze... the Jays July and August schedule looks a lot better. Considering where we were, I am very happy where we are. I think Jays win the division. Yankees fall to last.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Possible, but it's more likely to be: Red Sox (could change depending on the pitching--beating Colorado is one thing--but what about elite teams? Colorado is a bad team that's played over it's head.) Jays Rays (hard to call this one) Orioles (not enough pitching) Yankees (not enough offense)
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I think its going to be either the Yankees or Rays, but if I had to pick one I would say Yankees. I think the Jays/Orioles/Red Sox will battle it out for the division.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Orioles, because f*** the Orioles. Orioles should contend for the division down the stretch. SP is weak but a strong lineup, defense and pen will win them lots of games.

digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Sorry to burst your bubble, but the O's pen is near the bottom tier of the MLB. And the Jays have a far superior pen. And Chris Davis is bound to regress.. and they have offensive black holes at 2B and C. The defense is #1, however--which is good, considering their bad pitching staff.

They are considered by many to be heavy favorites to land Utley.
ZaunCherry Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Pet peeve: when people discuss bullpens as being relevant to a team's ROS outcome. Its just so pointless to try and project pen performance. Everyone thinks our pen is pretty awesome, but its a Janssen injury, bad luck, or regression to its 3.97 xFIP away from being public enemy #1. yeah but our bullpen is pretty awesome
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 They are considered by many to be heavy favorites to land Utley. Isn't Brian Roberts coming back?
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Meh not really. For whatever it's worth, Loup/Oliver/Janssen/Cecil/Delabar have combined for a 2.39 xFIP this month.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 lol He's on his second game in rehab. He's basically their Dustin McGowan lol.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 If You'd ask me this question in March I would have said the Red Sox, but the Red Sox Manager sure knows what he is doing. When you get a dream job, you will work hard at keeping it.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 You should probably have a good idea what I think that's worth I spent a whole 5 minutes on that though
backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 The Blue Jays need a no-nonsense manager.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 With what? Their farm is pretty bare, especially with Gausman struggling and Bundy out until 2015 with TJS. Johnathon Schoop is hurt and still a ways off. And where's your proof?
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Yes he is--likely early July. And Baltimore needs pitching--they don't have enough assets to make too many significant trades.
Flashman Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I'll never bet on the Yankees to finish last. Wherever they go, whoever they play, they are the Yankees. I know it's unsexy to talk about intangibles, but I can't help thinking that the pressure on them to win makes for a greater team (e.g. not such selfish, individualistic plate appearances, situational awareness, the higher 'baseball I.Q.') I like the Orioles. Well-rounded team makes up for the rotation's deficiencies. Not hard to upgrade that and they probably will. The Rays are fragile. One or two injuries could spell a poor run, so I'll pick them for fifth. The Red Sox have too much of a lead to truly tank, but it wouldn't surprise me if the Farrell honeymoon came to an abrupt end as they come to terms with the general mediocrity and unreliability of their roster.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Scratch Ricky Nolasco off the Orioles list: http://espn.go.com/los-angeles/mlb/story/_/id/9427326/los-angeles-dodgers-miami-marlins-trade-talks-ricky-nolasco-source-says Also keep in mind Baltimore can't take on anymore payroll--ownership is cheap, and they have many arb raises coming in 2014(including a likely very expensive raise for Chris Davis). They're tapped out right now at $92.2M--can't see them crossing $100M. O's don't have the financial backing that the Red Sox, Yankees and Jays have.
digiblader Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 IF the O's can afford to upgrade. They're at a disadvantage in money and prospects compared to other teams at the trade deadline.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Its funny how so many people are interested in this thread. Who cares as long as it is not Toronto. Because we probably hold the record. But times, they are a changing!

backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) BTS, I find that impossible to believe, last only three times in the past 30 years. But if true, which I doubt, three times in 30 years is three times too many. OK in 1980 and 81 was two of them, then in 82 we shocked the world beating out both Cleveland and New York, both teams starting in 1901. In 1983 we challenged Baltimore for first until mid SEP, then 84, the Tigers got off to a 35-5 start, but we were back in 1985 beating out the mighty Yankees, but just to lose to lowly Kansas City in the then East Play-offs. Who was worse then us from 1986 to 2013? Edited June 27, 2013 by backontop i didn't edit, any more foolish questions?
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 At the beginning of the year I figured Boston or New York for last. I still believe that. Boston collapses never surprise me.

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I guess we'll see but that pitching staff can't take just 1 injury.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Boston aint collapsing man. Because the 2013 Blue Jays are now one of MLBs elite teams, this question is ridicoulous. Yes spelled like dumb players or teams, the querry should be, which team can challenge us for first place! Boston and maby Baltimore may be pesky trouble makers in late September. But put your money on Toronto. How long has it been since you read a sentence like that?
