dmrich28 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Excellent post, hit the nail on the head. Especially when he came back early from a rib injury when we were getting slaughtered in April....no wonder he struggled with out a real ST. It's pretty absurd leaffie, there's no doubt about it. Edit: A Pete Rose type of ballplayer is exactly what Lawrie is, he doesn't quite have the hit tool as PR did, but he has more power and the same speed. He just would never play as long as Rose did, lol. That guy was a beast. Having Lawrie mentioned in the same sentence as Rose is a complete joke. Doesn't "quite" have the hit tool as Pete Rose. Too funny!
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I think Lawrie is being shopped as we speak What have you seen to make you say this?
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Whats the point of keeping Lawrie? Some people say that he is only 23! Yeah! he is 23 not 13, so if you can get anything for the __________ then you should grab it and take it all the way to the bank. Paying his cost for his stay in a mental institution would not be worthwhile. Again the reason we don't hire a Shrink to straighten Romeros problems out is because there is a stigma attached to anyone in society with a mental problem, can you imagine a multimillionaire with an ego.......... Hense the Blue Jays have to swallow his 20 million dollars Otherwise they could afford the best Shrink money could buy. Are you on medication or have you forgotten to take your daily medication?
IronLadle Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 BTW guys Keep in mind the Biogenesis scandal and how Bud is looking to get suspensions in first before any appeals. Melky could get suspended, meaning we could have a Davis/Boni platoon in left. That'll slot in DeRosa at 2nd. Izturis or Kawasaki can play second, there is no way DeRosa becomes an everyday guy.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 What's so funny? I didn't say anything out of the ordinary, You don't think Lawrie and Rose are similar type ballplayers fine, I'm talking physically and about Lawrie's ceiling, I mentioned he doesn't have the hit-tool Rose does, this is obvious. Lawrie has a better Power tool and the same speed aggressiveness as Rose did, also Lawries D is better.. What's wrong with saying that?!?! Just because Rose played a million f***ing years doesn't make him a God??? I think the word, "Quite" jumped out. As for defense, Rose was solid at 2b and the outfield long before he shifted to third where he was good. He was also good at 1b.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 You have to either remember or realize that Rose is MLBs all-time fielding percentage leader as an outfielder. He also had really soft hands as an infielder and while his throws were often described as short armed or awkward looking, he was very accurate.

Did you ever see Rose play? Same aggressive, no holds barred play. Same over the top, almost angry desire to win.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 This season of 150 abs has caused a lot of people to underrate Brett Lawrie. Jesus Christ.
dmrich28 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Did you ever see Rose play? Same aggressive, no holds barred play. Same over the top, almost angry desire to win. Yes I did see him play. Lawrie hasn't shown anything that comes close to being the same player Rose was..and no, I don't think Rose is "God" by any stretch. I just think it's a poor comparison. Anyways, it's interesting to hear what others think of Lawrie, so don't take anything too personally, I know I don't.

dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Pete Rose didn't break out until he was 24 so I will continue to believe Lawrie's the next Rose. I don't care what anyone says ahaha.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Lol elite defense and above average offense for his first two years in the bigs and he's shown nothing? What a load of crap.
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Mark DeRosa had me at hello .... Seriously On opening night he did about a 20 minute interview with Bob McGowan and whoever else was with him down on the field. I fell in love right there. Haha it was an amazingly honest interview
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I still belive in Lawrie. He's not gonna be a super star ... But he absolutely has the talent to make a couple all star teams
dmrich28 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 It's ludicrous, notice he doesn't answer me back? Derp........calls me out, I respond..........*crickets* Talks to Leaffie?! I just don't see the discipline in Lawrie at the plate, he'll never hit over .300 I doubt. He's defense is fine no question but so was Rose. I guess we'll just have to wait 10 years and see.

HE right now is a wild free swinger, if he manages to get decent discipline he can be a good hitter, it's all on him.

Hawkguy Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I like DeRosa a lot - and a decision my have to be made eventually. But when Lawrie comes back, I'd seriously consider moving Melky to the DL for a short while. The guy needs some serious rest. I love his heart, his courage, and I really like him - but he's broken. Rest up Melky, we need you for the playoffs. Rajai Davis can start for 2-weeks. He's played well this year anyway.

This I'll agree with 100%, Melky is hurting bad and it's only going to get worse the longer it goes.
dmrich28 Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Meh......you called it a joke and I refuted it, simple as that. We won't have to wait 10 years, the answer will be told far sooner than that. Cheers! maybe..but not as soon as you think
leaffie Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I never take anything personally on a mlb message board. But Pete Rose in his first two years had approx. 1200 PA with an average of 270. Lawrie has had approx. 700 PA with a BA of .266. So pretty comparable. Lawrie will be an all star one of these days, when he learns that he doesn't need to kill himself to catch the ball.
IBTrini Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Lawrie learning anything isn't going to happen. He's a cement head. I am fairly certain he is capable of learning new habits especially if the advice comes from [people he respects. So you don't like him now you will never like him. Fickle fans, and there are a lot of those around, will change their attitude if he becomes successful. Just take a look around at all the doom and gloom comments and the "fire...", "dfa...", "release..." comments when the Jays were doing poorly in the early part of the season. Now they are all in high spirits, cheering and waving their e-pompoms. He makes mistakes and afterwards he brags that he would do the same thing over again. Are you sure you are not mixing Lawrie up with Arencibia?
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I'm serious, I read this somewhere? That a player couldn't be suspended twice for the same infraction, a players union piece I think. It depends if Melky's suspension was based on stuff from Biogenesis. If the information that comes out from this investigation was the same (or similar) to what was used to give him the 50 games last season, then I don't think he can be suspended again. That being said, there could be worse things than giving Melky's legs a 50 game break...
Spoonovic Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Author Posted June 24, 2013 Yeah, Melky has not looked good in June. DLing him might me a smart long term move. Especially with the all star break coming up (gives him a couple extra days).
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 That being said, there could be worse things than giving Melky's legs a 50 game break... Haha. True. 100 days might be a bit long though...
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 I doubt Melky gets suspended again. As do I, but there's a non-zero chance of suspension.
Auldphartt Verified Member Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 >>>When Lawrie comes back... whats the point of keeping DeRosa?<<< Wasn't mentoring young Lawrie one of the reasons we acquired DeRosa, and then assigned them adjacent lockers?
