admin Site Manager Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Thought there was one already, can't find it. 7IP 5H 1ER 3BB 6SO Though a decent line, I still think the walks are unacceptable. The guys in AAA are gonig to be swing at more crap than major leaguers, so who knows how wild he actually was.
Dylan Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Ricky wants in on the fun, too bad he's in buffalo
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 RR has always given up a lot of walks, can't expect that to change I'm happy if he can keep the hits down, it means the batters are having trouble squaring up
Ziggyy108 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 trade him while his value is sky high!!! Romero for Lee!!
Arkadium Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 RR has always given up a lot of walks, can't expect that to change Not entirely true... in his good years he was walking between 3 to 4 per 9 IP... last year 5.2... seems like he still doesn't have his control back
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 First game; 1:1 K:BB Second game; 2:1 K:BB Let's hope that keeps trending the right way.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Lets see 10-15 starts and then evaluate him from there. Hopefully he can keep this up and give us some added depth.
kgm1 Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 He should never have been brought up after only one start in A ball . They screwed him right up ,now he has decided piss on you I'll do this on my own and it will take awhile . Hopefully he will be ready If we need him when the next guy goes down.
Anemic0ffense Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 I want Romero nowhere near this rotation... All 5 of our guys are finally pitching well... Hopefully no one goes down, and we don't have to even entertain the thought of bringing him back up North

His failures are his own, not the organizations. Romero s*** the bed all last season, s*** the bed during the spring, didn't understand why he didn't make the opening day roster and then he s*** the bed again when he got his chance. I agree that he shouldn't have been called up so soon but the organization gave him a hell of a lot more rope then he deserved to fix things and he didn't. Most of the blame falls on Ricky not the organization.
flafson Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 He learns how to dig himself out of the hole he dug, hopefully he continues to do well.

When you decide to do this give the guy a chance to get it right .
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Romero has always had bad mechanics. He sling shots his arm, puts strain on his elbow and comes across his body that is falling toward first base. He finally hurt the elbow and spent most of 2012 short arming pitches. So they fix his mechanics and try to get him to pitch correctly. Guess what? He was more wild than he was short arming the ball pitching in pain. Ok, so now he's just doing what he always did and it'll honestly probably work and we will see the old Ricky... for 1-2 years until the elbow gets all torn up.

I'm not disputing that they shouldn't have called him up, but the fact is he was already broken and the delivery change was an attempt to fix him. Terrible idea to call him up, but at the end of the day, Romero had an entire season to fix himself and he couldn't.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 5 bad innings tonight in Buffalo
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 6H, 5BB, 2K, 5 ER. Ouch. Anthopoulos was there to watch the game Anyone think that got in to Ricky's fragile little head???
wilko Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Anthopoulos was there to watch the game Anyone think that got in to Ricky's fragile little head??? If that's the case Ricky's fudged. He's fudged regardless IMO.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Is anyone still expecting this guy to be a relevant major-leaguer again? I still expect him to make it back, how long before he's back who knows? I count 9 guys on our roster right now that have come back from major adversity to be at least a relevant major leaguer, I don't see what makes Romero any different than them.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I don't see what makes Romero any different than them. Lack of mental toughness???
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Lack of mental toughness??? You must be kidding, he's from East L.A., didn't you know?
flafson Verified Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I guess it's all about his head, AA shows up, he gets cold feet and blows it wide open... At least Reyes did good, 2 for 4 with an RBI.
admin Site Manager Posted June 25, 2013 Author Posted June 25, 2013 Is anyone still expecting this guy to be a relevant major-leaguer again? Yes. I never give up hope though.
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 Lack of mental toughness??? People say that about everyone who struggles, none of us actually know what's going through his head. Maybe he did choke today hearing AA was watching or maybe he didn't even know AA was there and just had a bad start. My point was stories like him are pretty common in baseball, his career as a Major league pitcher is far from over.

Bautista E5 Delabar Lind Cecil McGowan Wang Rasmus? Cabrera? Dickey?
brandnew2 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 I was at the game tonight, right behind home plate. I hate to say it but Romero was even worse than his line score indicated. When he missed, he missed badly. And he also had a baserunner picked off at first and two thrown out at the plate (one of which was the wrong call) so the damage could have been worse. Reyes on the other hand was a pleasure to watch and is such a nice guy. While he was on deck he was posing for people as they took pictures of him. He really seemed to enjoy the spotlight.

He did that while he was on deck? I guess he didn't take those pitchers too seriously.
brandnew2 Verified Member Posted June 25, 2013 Posted June 25, 2013 He did that while he was on deck? I guess he didn't take those pitchers too seriously. Yeah. He was still taking his swings, but would turn around and make a silly face for a picture or acknowledge a fan who was calling his name.
