Adam Lind: MLB Comeback Player of the Year 2013?

Is Adam Lind eligible for this award? He was DFA'd in 2012 & is on the verge of winning a batting title. From what I read on Wikipedia, the award is for people who were injured or have "personal problems". Adam did have some back trouble last year , so I am not sure if that counts.

Yeah good point. Sore back and general suckage does not garner the attention of this award.

Yeah I think Rivera's going to get it this year. If Scott Kazmir finishes the year with solid numbers he should definitely be in the conversation as well.

Rivera, Kazmir, Lind are all good candidates. In the NL, it's probably Brian McCann.

Fair point, but couldn't Lind argue that no one else wanted him when he was DFA'd last year & so now if the Jays DFA'd him in 2013, 29 teams would want him?

No, Linds hot streak has been too short, but I was watching his mechanics on TV over the weekend. Its amazing what you can learn fron hitting coaches IF YOU LISTEN! But if his great hitting continues, why not? it's just he never was a star to begin with, so NO, he shouldn't qualify. Come back players are for great players who have gone into the dumps, then come back.

Again for the stupid people, to be the come back player of the year, You have to have been great in the first place! His rookie or early 2009 season don't count because he was not great then, if he helps us win the world series in 2013, then he will become great, then 5 years from now when he is playing good ball be cause he hopes for one more big contract and he has a good season because what he did back in 2013, then he will THEN qualify for the "come back player" of the year. I'm sorry to be negative, but Linds great work ethic is only because he has a chance to make many many millions over the next 3 to 5 years or settle for the minimum wage of 800,000 dollars. "Mothers DO let your sons grow up to be baseball players!"

That's only because they come back and still have talent enough to perform at a high level. Players don't suck for a year and then play at an allstar level the next year as often.

 

Players in Linds position have won it before.

As far as a triple crown, Detroits M. Cabreea (pardon me for my Spanish spelling) has a chance to do that two years in a row. I seen Frank Robinson do it in 66, then Carl YAZ in 67, but never in my 54 years as a fan have I ever seen that feat repeated. With baseball, just when you think you've seen it all, you are surprized that you haven't. You never know what you are going to see the next day!

Yes, he qualifies. Personally I don't think that he should but he does. I've never really liked the way this award has been handed out. I think that it should be reserved only for players who spent time on the 60-day DL the year before or for players who came out of retirement/ missed the entire previous year not on a roster. Perhaps throw in special cases like Rick Ankiel who made it back to the Majors as a position player but that's it.

 

I've said it before when I've seen the award given out-- what did he comeback from? Playing well after stinking the year before isn't a comeback, it's an improvement.
