ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Anyone know what's going on with Alford? Did he go back to football already?
flafson Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Rowdy looks like Panda from the Giants. I don't know about you guys but i always feel it's a risk to take players who can only play 1B. But i guess as long as he can hit, who cares.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Yeah, back to football. Ok, thanks. He showed a good eye in his limited playing time, good luck to him.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So here are the scenarios as I see them. 1) Bickford signs for slot of 2.9mm *We would have $1,773,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,193,430 or two guys for $1,146,715 each. 2) Bickford doesn't sign *We would have $1,773,520 + $173,840 + $100,000 (Post 10th round) *We could sign 1 guy for $2,047,360 or 2 guys for $1,073,680 each. 3) Bickford signs for 2.8 (100k below slot) *We would have $1,873,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,293,430 or two guys for $1,196,715 each. 4) Bickford signs for 2.7 (200k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,393,430; two guys for $1,246,715 each; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $493,430. 5) Bickford signs for 2.6 (300k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,493,430; two guys for $1,296,715 each; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $593,430. 6) Bickford signs for 2.5 (400k below slot) *We would have $1,973,520 + $319,910 (overage) + $100,000 (Post 10th round) * We could sign 1 guy for $2,593,430; two guys for $1,346,715 each; two guys for $1,096,715 and a third for $500,000; or two guys for $100,000 each and a third for $693,430. The third guy would be Tewes in the extremely unlikely 4-6 scenarios.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Probably shouldn't have caught the ball, but that's hindsight I guess. If he caught the ball and made the out at the plate, great play. And I don't know how deep the foul ball was. Yeah without seeing it it's hard o make a real judgement but the announcer said it was on the shallow side of a normal fly, and foul, so I think you gotta take the out rather than giving the hitter another chance. If it was a deep foul, ya I think you let it drop and ale your chances. We know he got the ball there on time, it was just skipped and then bobbled so I think he did it right.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So many numbers.. My brain is exploding Callis speculates that 2 nd round money is what it would take for tellez, so 1.15 million is in that neighbourhood. Really hope AA pulls it off or this draft might be a complete dud
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I know next year's draft is thought to be much better than this year's, but I want them to sign Bickford although not above slot. It seems they'll have enough money to get at least one of the late round tough signs.
ace3113 Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So at this point we are pretty much guarenteed to sign ONE of Tellez/Brentz/Tewes/Lauer I think there's a very good chance of Tellez/Brentz and Tewes, but I'd rather Tellez and Brentz. Wouldn't be unhappy either way.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Let's assume for a moment that they sign Bickford and 2 of Brentz, Tellez, Lauer and Tewes, would you feel like the system was replenished to a good enough extent after what was traded away even though these guys will be pitching in SS ball?
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 The system as a whole? No. But not completely messing up a draft year... Yes.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 It'll depend on how many guys pan out.
8D Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Assuming AA & Co. signs Bickford + one or two of the big named prospects, I prefer he not give away any legit prospects this offseason and wait it out just one more year or until next year's trade deadline.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I wish we drafted a position player... But if we can sign Tellez who was projected as a 1st round pick it kind of icens the burn Maybe they can trade some of the young pitching for hitters later on. One positive thing about the system is that there are a lot of good arms in there with potential, they're far away, but pitching is always at a premium.

Same here, I hope they stand pat at the deadline and hang onto what few prospects remain.

If I were to do a shadow draft it would probably go 1st) Braden Shipley, RHP 2nd) Riley Unroe, SS 3rd) Tyler O'Neill, C/2B 4th) Jared King, OF 11th) Nick Longhi, 1B I would have been pretty happy with that haul. Probably even saves you enough money to get Tellez later too.

Really hope AA pulls it off or this draft might be a complete dud $1.2M for Tellez, $800k for Brentz and AA will have had a great draft even without Bickford. (Saving the pick for next year might even be a bonus).

How doe sthe bat compare to Dom Smith's?
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Let Bickford go, 2014 class will be a lot of better

How doe sthe bat compare to Dom Smith's? Tellez is probably a 2nd-3rd round talent. So right about the same as Unroe. I think he fell because 1) He can only play 1 position, and it's not a premium one. 2) Some might have felt he would have too much swing-and-miss in his game to tap into his 70 raw power. 3) He had a strong commit to USC. I think he was rated the second best high school first baseman in the class behind Smith. I could be mistaken though, so I'll have to re-check.

flafson Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 I think AA is working on signing college seniors cause it's easier for him to work their mind. Tell them that if until now no one drafted them (or at least not in the higher rounds) then they might risk not being picked at all next year. Might be why he can get so many to sign for so little. How he gets people to sign for 5k though, i have no idea. Maybe they high private investigator to talk with their friends and family and see how much money they will accept and then offer that much.
imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So whats the final total with the extra tax percentage? Could care less if Bickford signs or not right now.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2013 Author Posted July 8, 2013 Phillip Bickford - Legit 1st round Clinton Hollon - 4th round talent Patrick Murphy - wait and see Evan Smith LHP - non-guy Daniel Lietz LHP - non-guy Matt Boyd LHP - non-guy Conner Greene - non-guy Kendall Graveman - non-guy Chad Girodo LHP - non-guy Garrett Custons - non-guy Jake Brentz LHP - 3rd round talent Eric Lauer - wait and see Sam Tewes - 4th round talent Brenden Kalfus - AllStar caliber OF Rowdy Tellez - 2nd round talent
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 the Jays have $2,093,430 pool available including the 5% overage and assuming Bickford signs for slot the total drops to $1,947,360 if they can not sign Bickford. They can give $100K to each signing in round 11 and highers. Therefore, assuming Bickford is not signed, the Jays could pay $1,073,680 each to Brentz and Tellez if the overage is split evenly between the two players. ($1,146,715 if Bickford signs). That is second round money for 80 ranked Brentz and 59 ranked Tellez (according to BA)

They both were the leaders of teams that went far in the CWS. I don't get why they are considered nobodies...
flafson Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 So anyone who signs for below slot is a nobody?
OtisNixonFan Verified Member Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 Boyd signed for $75k, that's a nobody. Slot for the sixth round was $250k. No one that hits 95 from the left side is a nobody. Being a college senior means you have little leverage, not that your s***. Chances are they had a pre-draft deal struck, most likely less cash for a higher starting level and/or a promise to advance quickly.
