imsorry4beatinU Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Passing on Tyler O'Neil and Jon Denney in the third really irked me. AA was looking for someone to go around slot at that pick and avoided the big bonus guys Jon Denney was 2 picks ahead of the Jays in the third round. We did pass on Tyler O'Neil tho in the thrid. I'm expecting HUGE things from my boy Jacob this year. He's going to mash +20HR in short season and open a spot in all of your hearts. +35% K rate Looking back at it now, who should we have drafted instead of Jacob Anderson, Joe Mosgrove, Dwight Jr, and Kevin Comer?
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Jon Denney was 2 picks ahead of the Jays in the third round. We did pass on Tyler O'Neil tho in the thrid. Ya, my bad. I knew the BoSox picked him, not sure why I didn't remember they picked ahead of the Jays this year.
DuckDuckGose Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Hedges and Jackie Bradley would have been solid picks. I don't like playing the hindsight game though. i was very happy with that draft class at the time (not signing Beede hurt that draft though).
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Twins sign 1st-rder Kohl Stewart for $4,544,400. Texas HS RHP, four plus pitches & Verlander comps at times
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Every high school pitcher taken in the first 10 picks is always comped to Verlander or Josh Beckett lol. $4,544,400 is exactly slot btw. The Jays will announce the Bickford's signing this afternoon....Mat Latos comps at times lol

GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Well, Jim Callis said this morning that 4 first round pick signings would be announced today. 3 of them coming from the same division., Red Sox/Yankees signed there 1st round picks today so that leaves a 3rd AL east team, could possibly be jays Oh, that. Saw that earlier but thought something new had emerged.

ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 It's definitely a good strategy IMO as well. It seems every year there will be a couple guys that drop. With the ability to punt picks, that would yield lesser talent anyways, to create cap space it seems like a no-brainer to me. Definitely wouldn't mind getting a top 10 pick in next year's draft. I'm almost finished my preliminary write-up, and there's already a handful of players I like more than Bickford who should still be available then. Question, should I post the write up in this thread, create a new thread, or post in on BlueBirdBanter and just link to it here?
ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Oh yeah, Athletes like: Jacob Anderson, Chris Hawkins or Michael Crouse Hey don't hate on Crouse, he has played pretty decent so far this year.

I think do a new thread, keep things organized on here.. and yea a top 10 pick next year in a good draft would be alright to have,

ace3113 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 +1. If he had gone for a Ryon Healy or something I would have liked this draft a lot more but if one of those two DOES sign then it's not a bad draft. Healy signed for only 500k too. I definitely would have preferred him to Murphy. He's a real sleeper pick with the bat.

I would have preferred him or Healy to Patrick Murphy. I don't know how Parker can argue and injured pitcher was at the top of his board, when there were so many healthy pitchers who were rated much more highly than him. lol
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 We could've taken Denney over Hollon, no? I would have been alright with that.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 We could've taken Denney over Hollon, no? I would have been alright with that. Jays wanted pitchers, not expensive catchers
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 Jays wanted pitchers, not expensive catchers injured pitchers < semi-expensive catchers
blackjays21 Verified Member Posted June 19, 2013 Posted June 19, 2013 injured pitchers < semi-expensive catchers our philosophy should be best player available , never mind what position or what not. and actually im happy with hollons I think he could be a good pitcher, and will be one of the better draftees we picked in this draft

Not angry by any means though. I would've really liked one of Unroe, Milone, Denney, or Healy though..

Would have taken him over Hollon everyday of the week, even though I like Hollon.

I would've really liked one of Unroe, Milone, Denney, or Healy though.. nah I would stick with hollons , was he not a top pitcher last year before he got hurt? he has high upside and he throws his pitches for strikes. I think he has a very high chance of reaching the majors in 3 years time!

I know TJS isn't that uncommon anymore but obviously it isn't a 100% perfect surgery and arm injuries for pitchers are still pretty scary if they're only in high school. Elbow injuries.. bleh.

I agree, it makes me a little iffy with tjs.. its hard to know how a pitcher will pitch after the surgery..
