Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 After getting 8-9 games below .500 very quickly, the team is now playing .500 ball. Not good enough. It's sad. This team is better than this, but at this point I'm not even sure they can win more than 81 games. I've said it time and again that they need a streak of up to 10 games won and this was as good a time as any to get that going. If they don't finish June .500 or better thn the season is over plain and simple.
backontop Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 there is no mederator, i wrote before THERE IS NO TURNAROUND! We are 8 games below .500, We have been fluxiating between 7 games below .500 and 10 games below .500 since the players awakened and realized, "we aren't gods like rogers said we were", which has been more than a month now. WHAT IS WITH THE TURN AROUND??? BTW, teen-agers, don't be fooled by Mike Wilner. DON'T YOU PUNKS TODAY KNOW HOW TO THINK FOR YOURSELF?
oakville69 Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 @Buster_ESPN: For those asking if OAK can sustain this: Over their last 162 games (back to June 14 of last year), the Athletics are 103-59, best in MLB. If the A's can play 40 games over .500, the jays can. Oakland did not play almost half its games against the AL East. This year you have 4 strong teams in the AL East. In the past , the Jays could always beat up on the Orioles. The Orioles are a good team now. I thought the Yankees would be much weaker than expected.

Wish we had more games against Angels and Astros and fewer against Yankees Sox and Rays
Caper Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Don't want to start a new thread..... but I was curious as to what it would be a good match up for Mike Trout..... I don't need to be told it would never happen.... I know. But I see the Angels as a team in a much, much worst position then we are. Trout is pretty much one of the few pieces team would want...... and probably the best chance they have in bringing in enough pitching to help them.... and probably the only guy you move that will allow you to move Hamilton (assuming he would waive his no trade clause)...... If you were the Angels, how could you package Trout and Hamilton to best help your team in a realistic trade option for both them and other teams?
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 But at least when Reyes returns there will be an exciting player to watch for a few months. I wonder if Lawrie and Reyes will ever play 162 games combined in a season?? As ussual I hope I'm wrong. But Reyes is an awkward fast twitch, out of control guy, now in his 30s. Coming off of a real bad injury. Do you really think you'll get the opportunity to watch him for a few months?? I guess I've lost complete faith in this organization. I don't think the injuries are fluke. I will say Reyes will play more games then Lawrie over the next 3 years. Lawrie has reached the Grady Sizemore, Eric Chavez stage without even having the good years.
Tuco Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Short of Bryce Harper, there is no feasible return that warrants moving Trout. What would you say to Kershaw, Puig and Zach Lee?
Caper Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Easy no for me. What if Hamilton went the other way as well?
Caper Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 I don't think you move the best player in the game to facilitate a salary dump. Trout is worth hundreds of million in surplus $ before hitting free agency. But that team is going to have a dreadful time competing that entire time before he hits free agency. They are in dreadful need of pitching... they have an awful farm system... they almost no other trade pieces to fill the voids they have... and a tonne of payroll tied up in two guys that seem to be in a HUGE declining phase of their career.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Easy no for me. Stanton + Yelich + Moran as PTNBL?
Caper Verified Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 In a heart beat I would do..... Mike Trout for..... Chris Davis, Manny Machado and Dylan Bundy (assuming good health)... I don't think the Orioles would though.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Still no. Zobrist + Price + Myers + Cobb.
dineke Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 JPA for Trout sure would entice LA.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 JPA for Trout sure would entice LA. For JP? They'd probably need to throw Weaver back in for us to do that.
Wilnercibia Verified Member Posted June 11, 2013 Posted June 11, 2013 There's no turn around.. Just perpetual W, W, L , L , L, W, W, L, L, L #f***thisteam
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 I understand the Reyes part, but what is this TURNAROUND??? It's the middle of June and we are 8 games below .500. Hey only three losses and we will reach our all time worse this year of 11 games below .500. 15 below .500 by the All-Star break sounds more realistic. Well they are pretty much on the pace I laid out at the beginning of this thread. Actually, they are a half game ahead. They are 5 games under and will probably fall to 6 below today. I still see them at or near .500, if not a game or two over at the break. Then they do have that 10 game home stand with 4 v Houston. This still smells like a turn around to me.
KSaw Verified Member Posted June 16, 2013 Author Posted June 16, 2013 When they go on the road for game 11 of the second half, it just doesn't seem that improbable for the club to be 3rd and only 4-5 games out of first.
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted June 16, 2013 Posted June 16, 2013 things are finally starting to look good but I won't get excited until they get over the hump. The hump for me is 10 games over .500

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 17, 2013 Author Posted June 17, 2013 89 jays after 68 games were 32-36. And only played 4 games over .500 over the next 40 games. 59-59 was the last time they sat as low as just .500.

Chappy Community Moderator Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 there's always hope....it's nice to have the odd reminder from time to time.. It was hopeless when the team was 11 games under .500, but only 4 games under not even halfway into the season and with Key guys like Reyes and Morrow on the way back as well as a whole bunch of other players who will add some depth, things look so much better now. It will still be a big hill to climb, but the depth will start to stack up real soon and its hard to look past it. Reyes, Morrow, Happ, Lawrie, Hutch, Drabek, Perez, Santos, etc, that is a lot of players that can help this team. Some not as much, but depth is still depth.
ElNik2013 Old-Timey Member Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Speaking of Reyes, has it been made official that he'll start his rehab assignment tomorrow in Dunedin?

KSaw Verified Member Posted June 18, 2013 Author Posted June 18, 2013 59-34 for 92 wins suddenly doesn't seem impossible. It won't be easy but it's somewhat realistic. The last 14 games of the season are v the division and there are still 7 games v the Astros on the sched.

The last 14 games of the season are v the division and there are still 7 games v the Astros on the sched. It's amazing what a 6 game winning streak can do for a team. It also helps that no team has really run away with the division (which most of us didn't really expect anyways). Best team in the division might only win 90 games this year, so as long as this team keeps things close they have a shot. With 12 games left in June, if this team can finish 8-4 or better, they will be in great shape for the final 3 months.
