Atothe Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 kyle drabek Another bullpen today... The elbow is feeling great... Can't wait to get into games again The white no control having Yu darvish is getting close, oh my.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Really pulling for him to find some control, somehow. Losing as many pitching prospects as we did over the winter, it would be nice to have near-MLB guy with good stuff emerge. Feel like anything we get from him (a la McGowan) is a bonus at this point.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Author Posted May 6, 2013 The white no control having Yu darvish is getting close, oh my. +6 walks per 9IP back to back season isn't sexy at all but I trust in his stuff Halladay 2000 - (5.85 K, 5.59 Walk), 6.47 FIP 2001 - (8.20 K, 2.14 walk), 2.34 FIP Everything is possible, keeping the distance of course

His stuff has filthy movement and sharp breaks. His stuff makes me feel like a battered wife, no matter how bad he does his stuff will always make me come back

His debut in Baltimore was so highly anticipated. rage

KSaw Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Drabek has the best late movement in the organization. Is what it is. His pitches all dance late and sharply. Morrow is close but not as nasty. And McGowan has the best all around everything. Notice a pattern that isn't great? Anyway, 2 TJ surgeries = at least a year or 2 as a reliever. Over 90% of starters with 2 labrum surgeries become relievers, if they even have a career.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Wasn't too long ago that this guy was considered one of the best young pitching prospects in baseball. It's a shame he hasn't been able to stay healthy and work through some of his issues.
JohnnyLonghorn Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Yeah Samardzjia really came along towards the end of last season, and has carried it over into 2013. Just goes to show you how crazy/unpredictable this sport is.

Control issues are control issues whether as a reliever or starter.
KSaw Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Jeff has always had electric stuff. He was a little behind in development but he has caught up.

mitchf Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Drabek is hopeless unfortunately. Violent delivery, maybe the worst control in baseball and frankly he has the mentality of a 5 year old on the mound. I hope he's healthy, but let's let another team give him his 3rd chance.
NiagaraJaysFan Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Farrell "Sam Dyson best stuff ever" LOL! Classic.
CHRIS Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I hope he's healthy, but let's let another team give him his 3rd chance. I'd still give him another chance. Not to say he'll make it, but hopefully the time off, coupled with the fact that he won't be handed a spot anymore will wake him up somehow.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I was always really high on Drabek. Really like the kid, want him to succeed.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Drabek could be a decent swing man for us.
GD Old-Timey Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Drabek could be a decent swing man for us. Yeah, I could see him working in a Los del V role.
Chappy Community Moderator Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 That's about all I would trust him with at this point. If he can show improved control then maybe he gets a shot at the rotation. With Hutch on the comeback trail as well, he is certainly ahead of Drabek on the depth charts.
mitchf Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Yeah, I could see him working in a Los del V role. No. More like Dave Bush role.
o2cui2i Community Moderator Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 Silly wabbit.......Kyle's went through two TJS surgeries, I'd be happy with a lights out backend reliever, if he comes back successfully as a starter, I'd have to pick my jaw up off the ground. Same goes for McGowan. I'd be happy to see him throw quality strikes. super power arm... hope he's got some ctrl when/if he comes back.
TO1 Verified Member Posted May 6, 2013 Posted May 6, 2013 I'd be happy to see him throw quality strikes. super power arm... hope he's got some ctrl when/if he comes back. I'd like to see him succeed too, but he can't command a thing. As bad as his FB command was, his CB command was even worse. Its never anywhere, but in the dirt by a longshot. No one swings at that when you can see its going to be a ball way before it reaches the plate. I just don't see it in him. Especially with such an emotional guy too. You got to block out the last bad pitch you threw and move on. He can't seem to do it. Looks like he fights himself on the mound more than anything else.

I'm sorry, but I don't think you give up on a guy with his stuff and a father with the experience he has to stand behind him. Baseball is in this kids blood and you don't give up on a guy like this. When he finally gets straight, he will be a perrenial winner and with his background, I'm betting that's exactly what he will be.
