Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 We'll just start on Sunday. Not in any rush. Okie Dokie, was just wondering as we did last year, but there wasn't so many Cubans if I recall.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Still looking to deal Plouffe to someone not happy with their 3B situation (desperate more than unhappy I guess). Projected to be an average bat with some pop (and wow he was worth 3.5 WAR last year, who knew) You haven't gotten back to my PM?
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 So if Olivera signs today and he's not added to the database by Sunday, he can't be drafted? No, I'll amend the rules so that it reads different.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Meh, the interesting ones have signed. Moncada won't be eligible. I only think there's Olivera left?
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 No, I'll amend the rules so that it reads different. So he would be allowed to be drafted then? What about other Cubans that are expected to start in the minors?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'd probably prefer Kang. Some combo of those two and Souza in the Top 3, IMO. I'm taking Tomas in the FC, too bad I can't wait on YM...
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Stupid Kenta Maeda. That's who I wanted in another league.
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 I don't know if we've every decided on this rule, but is everyone in agreement that international free agents who are young enough to be subject to international spending limits (Moncada, Yadier Alvarez, Yoan Lopez, Roberto Baldoquin) are not Waiver Draft eligible? That's our line in the sand, right? Have we talked about this before?
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I only think there's Olivera left? Andy Ibanez is interesting too. And there's a bunch of other guys who could get taken later in the waiver draft should they sign. Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I'm taking Tomas in the FC, too bad I can't wait on YM... *flash back to 2013* I guess I'll take Puig, too bad I can't wait on Soler.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 17, 2015 Author Posted February 17, 2015 New rule: Only players that have been added to the Yahoo database prior to the beginning of the draft will be eligible. The lone exception to this rule is international free agents who have signed MLB contracts before our waiver draft begins, were not subject to international spending limits, but are not yet in Yahoo's system. Such players could reasonably be expected to spend a significant amount of time in the major leagues during the upcoming year so they will be included in our waiver draft.

This won't be the case for Moncada anyway, since they won't add him to the db even if he signs.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Andy Ibanez is interesting too. And there's a bunch of other guys who could get taken later in the waiver draft should they sign. You haven't read the rules, once the draft starts, they'll be frozen.
NorthOf49 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 You haven't read the rules, once the draft starts, they'll be frozen. I meant that there are other Cuban prospects who, if they sign in the next few days, will get taken in the waiver draft. They're semi-interesting.

The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 *flash back to 2013* I guess I'll take Puig, too bad I can't wait on Soler. And I had to draft Puig in our initial prospect draft because Soler(main target) went a few picks before.

Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 And I had to draft Puig in our initial prospect draft because Soler(main target) went a few picks before. Steal of the draft, hands down. For now, anyway... gio.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 *flash back to 2013* I guess I'll take Puig, too bad I can't wait on Soler. lol...that could be me with Rusney and Kang.

This won't be the case for Moncada anyway, since they won't add him to the db even if he signs. There are a couple of guys who signed MLB deals, not subject to spending limits, in the last year but they aren't in the database yet. The question, really, is what do we want to do with them, and a hypothetical Olivera signing which occurs just before our draft. The fairest process of talent distribution has us putting them in the draft now, but since they aren't in Yahoo it's kind of annoying for obvious reasons. Yahoo doesn't really put the young guys in the system so a 'database' or 'contract' based rule would both do the same thing for the kids like Moncada.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 You haven't gotten back to my PM? You sent me a PM about Plouffe? I don't think I got it Spank (unless I did and have forgot)

You could have the drafting owner add a placeholder player until they're added to the database. Letting people draft these guys is indeed better than having them appear in the Majors and be subject to waivers. How does Raisel Iglesias' eligibility work? He made seven appearances in the AFL, is a clear Major Leaguer and isn't in Yahoo.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 How long does it usually take for Yahoo to add in these players? Typically, if they haven't been added by now, they won't be added until they debut.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 Typically, if they haven't been added by now, they won't be added until they debut. I feel like that would create a problem if these players were able to be drafted.

Have terrible plugs with NA listing be 'deemed' players for guys like Iglesias.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 You can't draft a player who isn't in the database at the start of the draft.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted February 17, 2015 Posted February 17, 2015 I don't like this idea at all. Just leave it the way it is and sort out these late signees with in-season waivers.
