The one trade I really, really hate. Sammy took me to the cleaner's.

A trade that doesn't get enough attention and probably didn't at the time either was Markakis + Glasnow for Lester. You stole a very good pitcher from KingKat and Lester was very good in 2013 too.

It wouldn't have been that bad if Lester continued down the trajectory he was on, but he looks like a legit ace now. I didn't see his 2014 season coming.

SG is still defending this one, but he'll have to own it eventually.

Seems like a pretty weak return for Zack Greinke...

In other news, A 2nd Leg to Stanton broke a long time of radio silence with a blockbuster. Dissect as you are.

To 2nd Leg to Stanton:

Johnny Cueto + Mark Appel + MiLB #120

To BALCO Pharm Team: Hanley Ramirez + MiLB #78

I like TRM end of this. I've never really trusted Hanley, and now he's a LF. Very smart decision to sell with one year of SS remaining.

Hanley isn't guaranteed to lose SS after this year, I think there's a very good chance he plays enough games to maintain it for a few years. He might even get 3B as well, depending on how effective/healthy Sandoval and Bogaerts are.

Bogaerts is going to provide 160 games of 130 wRC+ offense and average defense at short. No innings for Hanley.

I have an open spot for Hanley in 2015 and will next year too with CCC vacating the outfield. I think Hanley can really hit and he adds to my offense going forward.

It was a lot to give up though. Min gets the under-30 ace he was desperate for and picks up a great prospect.

This seems extremely unlikely.

A man can dream. I'm due for an positive offensive surprise after last year.

I made the trade in an effort to hedge against the possibility of Hanley becoming a non SS asset, which I think is about a coinflip. Even if he does though, I got a return I was happy with.

As North noted, I really needed a young, legit pitcher, and adding a nice piece to my farm who I think is going to continue to gain value was good also. I don't really buy into Appel's first half last year, I think he returns to the kind of guy that garnered him being the 1st overall pick.

Plus I'm comfortable having Aybar at SS for the time being. Hopefully Tim Anderson works out to fill in there eventually.

Billy Butler is going to bounce back in a big way.

Hopefully Choo and Trumbo join him. Braun, Belt, Andrus, and Gyorko can collectively suck a big bag of lemons.

I wanted to sell on Lester and I think my rationale was the right one. Problem with that trade is that I didn't really have any room for Glasnow and ended up having to bundle him in a bigger trade because I was out of space. I traded too many guys at once which was a rookie mistake. Had I paced myself I would have lucked into a better sell window for Lester.

Lester had like 4 straight years of declining xFIP and was 30. I was buying an inning-eating SP3/4 while recognizing that he could be a true-talent 4 ERA guy going forward. Your end worked out really well, as Glasnow is now a consensus top-25 guy. Lester was just better than anyone expected.

I had to check out how Boxy ended up where he is. Lots of mistakes early on, but very shrewd moves since the Melky trade.

Shoot I made deals with Boxy in the past? I guess we got along back then :)

Well, he let you violate him twice. So I guess that's a rapport of some sort.

I think I ended up flipping Berkman for Wily Peralta shortly afterwards as well. I've made some poor decisions in this league however. Jake Arrieta still haunts me and NJH will probably rub that one in my face for the next decade.
